Chanukah (HAH-nuh-kuh)
begins sundown December
24th and continues through
sundown Jan. 1st. The holiday
reminds us of the endurance
of the Jewish people and
commemorates two events in
Jewish history.
1. The Jews' military victory
led by the Maccabees over
the Greeks more than 2,100 years
ago, and their cultural victory over
assimilated Jews after Judaism
was outlawed in ancient Syria.
2. The rededication of the destroyed
Temple and the miracle of one
night's worth of oil burning in the
Temple's lamp for eight days.

formula that will turn you into an

product of who you are, what you

For the Love of Spock - Sunday, Oct. 30 | 4 PM
This film celebrates the legendary life and career of Leonard Nimoy, and his alter ego, Mr. Spock,
as told by his son Adam. The film had its world premiere at the 2016 Tribeca Film Festival. Regardless, of whether you are a Trekkie / pop culture fanatic, or not; there is no denying the impact
that Mr. Spock made across generations of viewers social conscience and the cult that followed iconic
characters like Spock, Kirk and Bones. Attendees may be surprised to learn that the iconic Vulcan
greeting was inspired by a letter of the Hebrew alphabet by Nimoy himself. For the Love of Spock,
has a star studded cast of interviewees including William Shatner, George Takei, Nichelle Nichols,
and Zachary Quinto, to name a few. This documentary also shares original behind the scenes and
archival footage, giving its audience a first class pass onto the StarshipEnterprise.
Remember - Sunday, Nov. 13 | 4 PM
This film tells the story of Zev Guttman (Academy Award® Winner Christopher Plummer), a
90-year-old struggling with memory loss who is living out his final years in a serene retirement
home. A week following the death of his beloved wife Ruth, he suddenly gets a mysterious
package from his close friend Max (Academy Award® Winner Martin Landau), containing a stack
of money and a letter detailing a shocking plan. Both Zev and Max were prisoners in Auschwitz,
and the same sadistic guard was responsible for the death of both their families—a guard who,
immediately after the war, escaped Germany and has been living in the U.S. ever since under an
assumed identity. Max is wheelchair-bound but in full command of his mental faculties; with his
guidance, Zev will embark on a cross-continental road-trip to bring justice once and for all to the
man who destroyed both their lives.
The Last Laugh - Sunday, Nov. 20 | 4 PM
Is the Holocaust funny? Director Ferne Pearlstein doesn’t shy away from the taboo topic of humor,
delving deep into pop-culture to find out where to draw the line, and whether that is a desirable or
even a possible goal.
The film pairs clips from films, performances, and interviews with top comedians and prominent
Jewish leaders (including Mel Brooks, Sarah Silverman, Joan Rivers, Louis C.K., Chris Rock, Abraham
Foxman, and Shalom Auslander) with an intimate portrait of Auschwitz survivor Renee Firestone, and
rare archival footage of cabarets in concentration camps. From this wealth of material, Pearlstein
weaves together a thoughtful exploration into the question of what is and is not off-limits in comedy.
The Last Laugh is sure to make its audience think, laugh, and cringe possibly all at once.
