After researching them, I came to the conclusion that an Apprenticeship was probably the best way for me to learn and would also still give me the opportunity to work on vehicles. Throughout the course there was a good balance of practical and theoretical learning which really helped my understanding. Since leaving the College I’ve now gained a full-time job as a mechanic at West Midlands Ambulance Service (WMAS) where I completed my Apprenticeship. My day-to-day duties include the service and maintenance of the entire ambulance fleet as well as running repairs during the day if needed. I absolutely love working on the vehicles, problem solving and the variety of work on a day-to-day basis! 25 I now aim to increase my knowledge in the motor trade before hopefully working my way up into management roles. On the job experience is what a lot of employers look for nowadays so I’d definitely encourage others to go down this route as an Apprenticeship gives you that as well as recognised qualifications! Nothing is too much trouble for them and they are very supportive if and whenever you need it. I was really proud when I passed all my exams first time. The course really did increase my self-esteem and confidence, which helped me greatly when applying for my apprenticeship. When you’re dealing face to face with members of the public you need to be sure about your abilities and appear confident. When I completed my Diploma, I took NVQ Level 2 and NVQ Level 3 (apprenticeship and Advanced Apprenticeship) in Travel & Tourism. I’ve now been a fully-fledged member of Thomas Cook Cabin Crew for four weeks and I’ve already been as far afield as Toronto and Canada. To me, being paid to be onboard is amazing and I am really loving the job. I enjoy meeting people and making friends - my friends on Facebook have doubled in the last few weeks!
