screening programme - and win

The NHS Bowel Cancer
Screening Programme will be
held at Morrisons, in Ince, on
Wednesday, from 11am until
2.30pm, to encourage people who
haven’t sent back their screening
kits to do so, as it could save lives
As an extra incentive, shoppers can guess the value of a trolley of goods and the closest will
win vouchers. The winner will
be announced on the Magic 1152
breakfast show the following
morning.

A POPULAR Wigan curry house is celebrating being named one of the best in the country.
The Raj restaurant, on Woodhouse Lane,
Springfield, was listed among the top names in
the UK for its cuisine by TripAdvisor, a website where customers log on and rate hotels
and eateries across the world.
And this week, they have announced that
the Raj has had some of the best feedback in
the whole of the country,
To celebrate National Curry Week,
TripAdvisor has revealed the UK’s top five
curry houses with the Wigan restaurant
coming fifth.
The Raj is the only one in the group from
the North West too, outshining all those on
Manchester’s famous Curry Mile.
Head waiter Abdul Kalam said: “When
I received the news I was immensely proud
of the Raj and the people of Springfield and
beyond.
“For Wigan to boast one of the best restaurants in the country is amazing and I am especially proud of chef Sultan Miah.
“He has dedicated his life to ensure his
people taste the perfect curry each and every
time, cheffing for over 30 years.
“We are a small restaurant on Woodhouse
Lane and to get this recognition is something
the whole community should get credit for.
“Thank you for your continued custom and
support.
“Our regulars have translated the RAJ into
Wiganese as ‘Really Awreet Jackbit.’

The news comes in what is the restaurant’s
10th year at its Springfield home and they
have a number of plans to celebrate the milestone and have recently completed a refurbishment of the premises.
Abdul added: “We are taking Christmas
and New Year’s party bookings and Christmas
Day dinner for the 10th year running with this
recognition we hope to make this Christmas
the best so far.
“We’re celebrating spicing up Springfield
and beyond since 2002.”

food – in particular the curry – is certainly one
of these.
