WARNER FRIEDMAN
Warner Friedman has been
painting from his studio in
the Berkshires of western
Massachusetts for nearly
thirty years now. His work
is a fascinating fusion of
illusionism grounded in
architectural elements
that take on a highly
atmospheric quality
when combined with
the landscape. Standing
before one of his large
paintings, the viewer is compelled to look through a window or portal that transports us
to another world. There is the structure of a frame, or several frames, which creates a
stunning three dimensional perspective. But there is also the soothing sound of gentle
waves in Safe Harbor, or the calm clarity of Summertime, as one looks across the lake
to a distant shore. There is the strength of light, so palpable and pure in its presence, and
expressed with such sensitivity as to evoke a feeling of serenity. Mr. Friedman has said
that, “Seeing is the best way of knowing.” Indeed, in his recent work the artist invites us
to see into the space of these timeless moments, which one might pause to know.
Warner Friedman exhibits his work nationally. He is the recipient of several prestigious
grants, and his paintings are in numerous public and private collections, including The
Wadsworth Atheneum, Albright College, the Berkshire Museum, the Boca Raton
Museum of Art and the Museum of Art in Fort Lauderdale.
