Invitation to Wagner College Choir performance at St. Andrew’s, March 8th
St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church invites you to “A Wedding of Sorts” presented by the Wagner
College Choir from Staten Island, New York on Tuesday, March 8th at 7 p.m. at the church, 210 S.
Indian River Drive, Fort Pierce, FL 34950. The choir, under the direction of Roger Wesby, will
visit Ft. Pierce on a seven city tour of Florida.
The concert includes music by Heinrich Schütz, Johann Pachelbel, Arvo Pärt, James MacMillan,

.New Beginnings Weekend 106 at Camp Wingmann, March 11 -13
What: New Beginnings is a weekend especially designed to respond to the issues, concerns, and
needs of teenagers in middle school (approx 12 – 15 year olds). It was created to help young people
grow in their love of themselves, of others, and of the Lord Jesus Christ. Participants do not have to
be Episcopalian but must be recommended by an Episcopal Church and have the backing of an
adult (over age 21) from that church that will be attending the weekend as a sponsor. It is expected
that all participants, sponsors, and team stay for the entire weekend due to the building nature of the
talks and activities.
When: March 11 – 13, 2016
When to arrive: Fri. eve at 7 p.m. (Please eat dinner before you arrive)
When the weekend is over: Approximately 1:30 Sunday afternoon

Women’s Retreat – “Chosen and Beloved” - at Canterbury, April 1 - 3
Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, Melbourne invites women of all ages to “Chosen & Beloved”, a
Weekend Retreat at Canterbury Retreat & Conference Center, 1601 N. Alafaya Trail, Oviedo.
The retreat begins with registration at 4 p.m. on Friday, April 1st and concludes following Holy
Eucharist and Brunch on Sunday, April 3rd . A Poster and a brochure for registering is included in
this issue.

Diocesan Congregational Grants – Applications due on or before June 1st
The Parish Development Grant Program, established at the 45th Annual Diocesan Convention
in 2014, encourages self-supporting congregations to apply for a Congregational Development
Grant: (1) To meet the needs of continuing growth; (2) For new ministries; (3) For existing
ministries needing new funding to expand; and (4) for other new parish initiatives.
Additionally, the grants may be provided for needed facilities, programs, and or staff.
A Statement of Grant, a Grant Application Form and a Parish Development Grant Funding
Agreement included in this issue.
Invitation to Clergy to Serve at the Cathedral Church of St. Luke
The Reverend Roger Hamilton, Chaplain to the Retired Clergy has issued the following invitation
to clergy on behalf of Bishop Brewer and the Cathedral Church of St. Luke:
Dear Diocese of Central Florida Clergy,
Our Cathedral is looking to once again institute a daily Eucharist (Monday-Friday) at
the noon hour. I have been asked to put together a list of all Clergy, including Deacons and
Priests, retired and active, who would be willing to serve. It will involve 2 clergy each day,
and there would be time for ministering to people after the service.
If you are willing to become a part of this ministry please contact me by phone (407-6233421) or by email ([email protected]) providing me with your contact information
and letting me know how often you would be interested in serving (i.e. "weekly" or "every
other week" or "monthly"). I will follow up with you to set up a rotation. This is a unique

Solar Lights Africa Mission Trip Opportunities for Adults and for Youth
Solar Light for Africa has been leading short term mission to East Africa since 1999 and is now
recruiting a youth team (high school and college age) and an adult team for missions in Uganda this
summer. Mrs. Charlene Turner, Executive Director, will lead both of the trips accompanied by her
husband The Reverend Eric Turner, Rector of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Melbourne.
The Youth Mission will be June 20 - July 4; the Adult Mission will be July 6 - 18.
Participants will travel to Uganda to work with Ugandan team members to deliver and install solar
power systems at an orphanage in northern Uganda, a ministry serving victims of the "nodding
disease," and at a school serving deaf children also in northern Uganda, and to do other projects in
addition to experiencing the wonderful people and spectacular sights of Uganda.
Youth Mission participants are responsible for raising $3800 for airfare from Orlando, all expenses
in Uganda, and a contribution toward the equipment we will install.
Adult Mission participants are expected to raise $2000, which does NOT include airfare; Each adult
is responsible for airfare to and from Entebbe, Uganda (this is to allow use of airline miles,
etc.) Additionally, there are some personal expenses, generally ranging $200-400 for a Ugandan
Visa, immunizations and medication, and personal expenses.

Clare’s love for the Scriptures was
encouraged while she was still a
pre-teen by her spiritual mother,
Clara Averett (AKA “Abby”). During
her college years she participated in
Intervarsity Christian Fellowship, where
she learned the inductive Bible study
method. This approach focuses on
discussion rather than lecture. She used
this method during the years of leading
a weekly women’s Bible study at Holy
Trinity Church. While living in NC from
2005-2015, she led weekly studies as
well as annual retreats for the women of
the church. “Chosen and Beloved” was
the topic of the NC retreat in 2013. She
currently leads two weekly Bible studies
in her home.
Clare is married to Jim Toy. They have
three sons and eight grandchildren.
She has a BS degree in nursing from
Emory University, a BA degree in music
from Campbell University, and a MA
degree in music composition from UNCGreensboro.

The metaphor of God’s people as wife/
bride is found in both Old and New
Testament Scriptures. It highlights the
reality of God’s selecting a people for
himself (the people of Israel and later the
church) and also His loving care, guidance,
and protection of these communities
of faith. Research into Jewish wedding
tradition reveals three stages: betrothal,

By Resolution of the Diocese of Central Florida during the 45th Annual Convention January, 2014, a
grantprogramwasestablishedforcongregationdevelopmentwithintheDioceseasanewresourcefor
growing existing self-supporting congregations and their ministry opportunities. This Statement of
GrantisbasedupontheGrantResolutionandthe“FiveStrategicPoints”containedwithintheBishop’s
addresstotheConventionJanuary25,2014.
Self-supportingcongregationsareencouragedtoapplyforaCongregationDevelopmentGrant(1)to
meet the needs of continued growth; (2) for new ministries; (3) for existing ministries needing new
funding to expand; and, (4) other new parish initiatives. Additionally the grants may be provided for
neededfacilities,programsand,orstaff.
Prioritieswillbegivenfor(1)grantswhichstrengthenthevariouscongregationrelationshipswithin
theDiocese;(2)grantsdesignedtoraiseupnewleadersforbothclergyandlaity;(3)grantstoexpandor
beginoutreachministriestocongregationneighbors,communitiesandregionssothatpeoplebecome
attractedtoseeandhearthegoodnewsthatGodhasgivenus;(4)grantstofurtherparticipateinthe
councils of the Episcopal Church and the Diocese as well as ecumenical relationships within parish
communities;and,(5)grantsdesignedtorevitalizechildren’sprogramsandyouthministry.
Theaggregatemonetaryamountofgrantsthatmaybeapprovedandacceptedinanygivenyearis
currently $50,000. The minimum grant application is $10,000. The maximum grant application is
$25,000. While it is intended to fund grant applications aggregating $50,000 each year, there is no
requirementthatanygrantapplicationbeapprovedandacceptedinanygivenyear.Grantsarenotto
be used in multiple years and must be expended by the next June 30 following the date of grant
application approval and acceptance. Subsequent Reports of grant successes shall be provided by the
recipient congregation six (6) months and (12) months from the date of the grant approval and
acceptance. Additional reports and information may be requested as needed for Diocese reporting
purposes.
A Special Grant Committee (SGC) of the Congregational Development Commission of the Diocese
(CDC) shall be the administrator of the Congregation Development Grants program. The SGC, in its
functionasadministrator,shallhaveasexofficiomemberstheBishopandChiefFinancialOfficerofthe
Diocesewhomayattenddeliberationsattheirrespectivediscretions.TheSGCshallfromtimetotime
make recommendations to the Board of the Diocese regarding approval and acceptance of grant
applicationswhicharecreativeandcompelling.GrantapplicationsmustbereceivedbytheCDCatthe
DioceseonorbeforeJune1ofanygivenyearforagrantyearbeginningJuly1andendingJune30of
thefollowingyear.TheSGCmaymakerecommendationstotheBoard(1)inamountslessormorethan
theamountsrequestedinthegrantapplication;(2)withorwithoutmodificationsoralterationsofthe
grantapplication;and,(3)withorwithoutconditionsorrestrictions.Inmakingitsrecommendationsto
theBoardoftheDiocese,theSGCshalluniformlyapplycriteriaandrulesasdeterminedbytheCDCfrom
time to time and made available to parishes as soon as practical. All decisions of the Board of the
Diocesearefinalandnon-appealable.
TheChairpersonoftheSGC,orotherdesignatedmemberoftheSGC,maycontactagrantapplicant
forquestion,clarificationorcommentinconnectionwithagrantapplication.TheSGCshallworkwith
all congregation applicants so that grant applications may receive a positive recommendation to the
BoardoftheDioceseeachyeartoamaximumof$50,000.
The SGC shall consist of not less than three (3) and no more than five (5) clergy and lay members
appointed by the Bishop in consultation with the Chairperson of CDC and the Canon to the Ordinary
eachyearafterallparishgrantapplicationshavebeenreceived.EachappointeeoftheSGCshallhave
noobviousrelationshipwithparishapplicantstoavoidtheappearanceofaconflictofinterest.
TheSGCmayrequirefromtimetotimeasapre-conditiontoreceiptoffundsunderanapprovedand
accepted grant application a grant contract that contains (1) appropriate indemnifications; (2)
certificationsofliabilityinsurance;(3)acommitmenttocompliancewiththecontentsandintentofthe
grantapplicationasapprovedandaccepted;and,(4)specialconditionsorrestrictionsconnectedtothe
grantapprovalandacceptance.

What is Happening?
Happening is a Christian experience presented by teenagers
for teenagers. It is designed for youth in grades 10 – 12 and
sponsored by the Episcopal Church. Most young people
have serious questions about Jesus and the Church.
Happening is a time and space to make new friends who
share similar concerns and questions. A teenager who acts
as ‘rector” leads the weekend with the help of a staff
consisting mostly of young people. During a Happening
weekend, participants experience the love of Christ as shown
through prayer, worship, play, and study (discussion and
exploration is encouraged through teen-given talks among
other activities). Happening shows how Christianity can keep
pace with the many changes in our lives and our world.
Who may Attend?
Any student in 10th - 12th
grade may attend
Happening. A student
does not need to be an
Episcopalian to join us for
this retreat.
What is the
Registration Policy?
Happening operates on a first come, first served basis.
Completed (form, covenant, insurance information, and money)
applications are accepted in the order they are received until the
Happening is full and/or the deadline
date is reached.
Where is Happening held?
Happening is held at Camp Wingmann.
The weekend begins at 6:00 p.m. with
dinner. We cannot start without you.
EVERYone must be present before we
can begin. Happening is over on
Sunday afternoon. You must stay the
entire weekend.
What is the Cost?
The registration fee is $125 and includes meals and lodging.
What if I Cancel?
If you call at least one week prior to
Happening, we will refund your
registration fee minus $25.00
processing fee. If you do not call
and cancel, there is no refund. You
will need to re-submit an application
for a future Happening.
What if I Need a Scholarship?
We never want money to hinder
participation in a Happening
weekend. If you need a scholarship
to attend Happening, please seek
help from your parish priest first
and then contact .
What and Where is
Camp Wingmann?
Camp Wingmann is an
Episcopal Camp located in Avon
Park set in a beautiful wooded
site on a breathtaking lake. The
cabins and the Lodge are air
conditioned and have
comfortable bunk beds. In the
dining hall, the kids are treated
to the best camp food anywhere!

When the weekend is over: All parents and guardians are welcome to attend closing
Eucharist at 3:00 pm, participants will be allowed to leave afterwards. (NOTE: Parents
of staff members: the staff will have a final wrap-up meeting at 5:30pm)
