Building Dreams Capital Campaign, 2007-2012 Creating B etter Lives for Troubled Children “You will find, as you look back on your life, that the moments that stand out are the moments when you have done things for others.” – Henry Drummond buy a brick, build a life In their earliest years, children learn to stack blocks, acquiring basic skills that create a foundation for success later in life. For kids facing acute mental or behavioral problems, building a strong and stable life is more difficult. Devereux Cleo Wallace helps rebuild broken lives and give troubled children the skills they need to fulfill their dreams. The skills kids learn at Devereux Cleo Wallace are basic and fundamental – essential building blocks for a healthy and fulfilling life. Please join us as we build a place for kids to run and play…a place where dreams can be made. The Buy a Brick, Build a Life effort allows you to help lay the foundation for this much needed facility. Commemorate a family member or friend through the donation of an engraved brick, and we’ll use it in the final project, placing the bricks on a plaza to be designed at the complex. PHase i ms a e r D ng Buildi A Vision for the Future $500,000 Athletic Facilities Phase I of the Building Dreams Capital Campaign consists of constructing new soccer and softball fields, basketball and volleyball courts, and a covered pavilion. The facilities will encourage physical exercise and give DCW youth the critical skills and benefits of team play – reinforcing important social skills and leading to greater self confidence. With your help we can provide these important athletic facilities where DCW youth can play, be active and just be kids. Consider a Naming Opportunity for Your Family or Business Thanks to growing support within the community, we are embarking upon a campaign to improve our campus. These changes will help us serve thousands of Colorado youth who do not otherwise have proper access to quality mental health care services. Your continued support will make building a path to independence for the kids we serve possible. Each dollar goes a long way in building hope to rebuild a life. The funds raised through the campaign will provide for the establishment of new buildings and resources on campus. These facilities will allow our dedicated staff to meet the needs of today’s kids, providing them the level of quality they need and deserve. Take a moment to look through our vision for the future of DCW to see how you can make a difference in the lives of some very deserving youth. $150,000 $100,000 $ 75,000 $ 20,000 $ 10,000 $ 10,000 $ 2,500 “Give the American people a good cause and there’s nothing they can’t lick.” – John Wayne Residential Facilities Devereux Cleo Wallace provides residential services for youth who come to us on either a short- or long-term basis for mental health treatment. The options include intensive residential treatment as well as housing for kids who are preparing to transition back to the community and in the stage of acquiring independent living skills. New Residential Units This phase of the campaign will include planning, construction and landscaping of six new residential units containing 112 beds. Many of the boys and girls we serve at DCW need “eyes on” attention and require easy-to-navigate hallways in a cost-effective living environment that utilizes energy efficient resources. The units will utilize state-of-the-art construction materials and furniture for managing youth who can at times be combative. Each unit will include a great room that can be utilized for staff/client meetings, group therapy and leisure activities. The units also will include private bedrooms with storage areas for clothing and personal items as well as bathrooms and showers. $3 Million Transitional Housing Units Two of the six residential units will be utilized for transitional living programs. As in the other residential units, modern lighting will reflect our knowledge of what environments are best suited to children coping with depression, aggression and past instances of abuse and neglect. The transitional housing units illustrate DCW’s commitment to providing a continuum of care that allows for the smooth transition of kids – from intensive residential treatment to less restrictive environments. This continuum will reduce the unnecessary transfer of kids to other agencies and provide a safe haven for trying out new skills and behaviors needed for independent living including cooking, doing laundry, budgeting, apartment-hunting, and job hunting and interviewing. Student Activity Center This phase of the Building Dreams Capital Campaign will include the planning and construction of a new Student Activity Center to house DCW’s award-winning Work Experience Program. The WEP provides 10 sites on campus where kids obtain real-life, meaningful work experience in a wide array of areas. – Zig Ziglar eco r s i DCW ing d a e l as a of r e d i prov or f s e c servi hest g u o t the ids. k h g u of to $4.3 Million PHase iii “Goals are dreams we convert to plans and take action to fulfill.” gnized PHase ii A History of Distinction The Student Activity Center also will contain areas for DCW’s growing performing arts program; study areas and state-of-the-art computer resources; and a lounge for recreation where students can unwind in a quiet place. Devereux Cleo Wallace (DCW) is an exemplary facility with deep Colorado roots and nationally renowned expertise in mental health services. Founder Cleo Spurlock Wallace, a pioneer in educating developmentally and emotionally disabled youth, created the center in 1943. Through her vision and determination the center grew from a school in her basement to what is today the region’s most comprehensive psychiatric center for children and adolescents. A later merge with the national Devereux organization brought even greater clinical expertise and best practices in behavioral health care. Ensuring a Brighter Future for Troubled Children As part of the Building Dreams Capital Campaign, DCW will dedicate a portion of funds raised to our existing endowment. This fund is dedicated to helping us meet ongoing expenses of campus facilities, covering future capital expenditures, or funding special projects. Today, DCW is recognized as a leading provider of services for the toughest of tough kids. The center continues to expand its range of services for youth with varying levels of need, providing a true continuum of care for troubled Colorado youth. Our mission is to ensure that these children get the care they need to achieve health and success. The $1 million endowment campaign will add to our existing endowment base so that no matter what the economic climate, we can ensure continued financial stability for our programs and peace of mind for the families of the children we treat for generations to come. It will enable DCW to continue to provide excellent, innovative services to children whose lives have been altered by mental illness, abuse or neglect. DCW provides troubled children with comprehensive therapeutic, medical, vocational and educational services. Our commitment to strength-based treatment and individualized plans of care, along with our dedicated and compassionate staff, has made us a leading provider of behavioral health care in the Rocky Mountain region. The endowment will help ensure a brighter future for the troubled children treated at Devereux Cleo Wallace. ✔ Yes!
