WINTER 2013-14
V heers to Our New Members
On Thursday, November 21 the Bridges Club hosted a Welcome Reception
for our newest Members of the Club. Over fifty Members attended this event
to welcome and introduce new Members to our Bridges family. Sommeliere,
Mark Valin, served several exceptional wine selections to celebrate the occasion
while Chef Chris prepared a delicious assortment of heavy hors d’oeuvres. It was
a special evening, and it reinforced what an incredible Membership we have at
The Bridges Club.
Since our 24 Campaign launched last year we have been very pleased with the
Sean McCune i General Manager
number of new Members that have joined The Bridges and with the number of
Members that have upgraded from National to Golf Members. It is quite exciting
to realize that we have almost reached our goal of selling the final 24 Golf
Memberships with only four remaining.
If you were not able to attend the reception, please “Say Hello,” the next time
you see a new Member and give them a warm welcome to the Club.
Thank you for your extraordinary ongoing support.

pBob & Jeanette Friedman (National )
Bob Friedman was born in Hollywood, CA in 1953. His father had a scrap
metal business in both Los Angeles and Las Vegas so Bob was raised in
both cities. Bob’s father was an entrepreneur and they were involved in a
variety of businesses during Bob’s childhood. Their main business became recycling centers
ShipEquip. They received some solid funding on 2005 and then expanded into also providing internet service to all global Cargo Vehicles.
It was a very high margin, niche business and grew rapidly and in 2006,
Esben became the COO. Esben was the COO from 2006 -2010 during
which time they opened offices in the U.S., U.K., China and Singapore.
They essentially provided internet service for all of the large Cargo Ships
around the world In 2010, ShipEquip was acquired by a U.K. firm called
Inmarsat, PLC. Esben remained with the firm from 2010 to 2013 as the VP
of Operations. He retired at 39 in 2013 and he and his wife Tone bought
a second home in The Bridges.
Tone grew up in the same town as Esben and they have been married for
twenty years. They have two girls ages 13 and 16 and are enjoying living
in San Diego.
Members
Bob graduated from High School in Huntington Beach, CA and then attended Orange Coast College for a year in 1972. He got married in 1973
and started a family and then focused on working full time in Compton,
CA with his uncle Lou (Dad’s brother) in the recycling business. Bob
ended up learning the recycling business from his Uncle Lou over the
next five years.
In 1978, Bob decided to start his own recycling business called Silver Dollar Recycling in Las Vegas. Bob had another Uncle named Irving (Dad’s
brother) who partnered with him in that business. They also invited in
Bob’s father Hal to become a partner.
In 1984, Bob sold his interest in the recycling business and got divorced
from his first wife and relocated back to Huntington Beach, CA and
started a residential real estate business. He grew it to 14 agents and
through that process, met his current wife Jeanette in 1986. Bob ended
up selling the real estate business in 1988 and went back to Vegas to rejoin his father and uncle in their recycling entity.
Jeanette followed Bob back to Vegas and he hired her as his Chief Marketing Officer. In 1999, Bob and his partners bought another recycling
business out of bankruptcy that had a huge Car Shredder. They expanded the company and bought another shredder and in their peak
years were shredding over 30,000 cars a month.
In 2008, Bob sold his company right before the crash to a firm out of Australian called “SA Recycling.” The timing was very fortuitous.
Bob and Jeanette Friedman recently purchased a fractional interest in a
Villa at Rancho Valencia and that is how they were introduced to The
Bridges Club. They are excited to be National Members and enjoy The
Bridges Club while staying at Rancho Valencia. The Friedmans also own a
home in Newport Beach, CA.

WINS THE JUNIOR TITLE
Well it was not your average junior club championship this year as we saw a dramatic
come from behind win from Chase Cameron. Chase found himself trailing by 3 shots behind Jamie Cheatham going into the final 9 holes of play. After shooting a 3 under par
back nine Chase found himself winning the championship and hoisting the barrel which
the champion keeps for the year. It was great golf from all of our juniors this year as this
group continues to grow at the club. In the junior flight we had Schuyler Voss shoot a 32
to win this division. Congratulations to our champions and thanks to all of the members
who participated in this year’s Junior Club Championship.

Know that minor slip ups happen and it’s not a reason to give up. Remember how far you’ve come and don’t dwell on the setback.
Legends at The Bridges
Susan Taylor asks,“Do Pigs Fly?”
On Tuesday, January 28, 2014 The Bridges
Club warmly welcomes Susan Taylor for a
funny and poignant talk about her transition
from the television news business where she
spent the last 30 years of her life..to
becoming the executive director of external
affairs for Scripps Health.
She will also address the state of healthcare
today which is going through its biggest shift
in more than 100 years. Technology is
leading the change that will drive down the
cost...which is GREAT for the patient!
San Diego is also a hotbed for genomics
which is going to change the face of medicine from ‘one-size-fits-all’ to ‘individualized’.
Also, Scripps recent $3.75 million partnership
with Qualcomm to explore the marriage of
wireless technology and healthcare makes
this region ‘ground zero’ for this tectonic shift
in the way healthcare will be delivered.
She will also address changes to healthcare
as a result of the Affordable Care Act.
We hope you can join us for this interesting,
complimentary event!
