“Creating Community
Through People, Parks
and Programs”
The Berkley Buzz
Hello and welcome to the Winter edition of the 2015 Berkley Buzz. As the new season approaches it’s time to turn our
attention to all the excitement and possibility it brings. The Parks & Recreation staff has worked hard to put together
programming choices for your family and is confident that within these pages you will find the activities to keep your
family active & healthy. Participation is a great way to achieve the old adage “A family that plays together, stays
together,” so Get Out & Play!
We are happy to bring you the 5th annual WinterFest celebration on February 7th! Take in the carnival atmosphere at the
center, fowling, broomball, petting farm, taste some of Berkley’s best soups during our “Soup-Off,” watch the Bloomfield
Hills Blackhawks Girls Hockey game and/or take in a skating session at the Ice Arena, decorate cookies and make special
crafts, watch the talented ice sculptures being designed before your eyes, learn some great outdoor education techniques
from local Boy Scouts and much, much more.
Other fun Parks & Recreation winter activities we hope you will participate in include our second annual Mom2Mom Sale
on January 10th, Mother/Son Sports Night on January 23rd and the ever popular Daddy/Daughter Dances on January 24th.
Also, make sure you bring your family to the Cartoon Theatre which takes place on March 7th, skate with your sweetheart at
our Valentines Skate at the Arena on February 14th or enjoy a wonderful breakfast, petting farm and pictures with the bunny
at Breakfast with the Bunny on March 28th. For more information including costs and times regarding these special winter
programs as well as all our wonderful weekly programs, check us out at www.berkleymich.org.
Parks & Recreation’s Get Out & Play Initiative is designed around ‘action.’ This can mean a variety of things from
sponsorship to volunteerism to participation. This initiative’s purpose is to make options available for businesses,
families and individuals to be active in our community. With the rates of participation in our programs, businesses can reach
a larger portion of consumers. Families and individuals can not only stay active and healthy but also assist their neighbors by
volunteering in any number of available opportunities through Parks & Recreation. We urge you to be active in your
community and get involved in this initiative!
Remember to keep us in mind for any of your business, family or special event needs. Competitive rates are available for
room rental at the Community Center and Ice Arena. We have wonderful birthday party packages and off season training
space is available for your teams. Let us help you ensure that a special touch is put on your next event and your team is
prepared for next season. If you have ideas on how to make our parks, programs and facilities even better I would love to
hear from you, please contact me at 248.658.3470 or [email protected].
Please be sure to check that box entitled “Recreation Passport” when you renew your license tabs. I just did because it not
only gives my family great opportunity to explore our great parks but also benefits our wonderful community, boom!
