Bodean Barney-Secretary, Edie Walker-Vice President
and Robin Koop-Treasurer, our new Club Officers. They
are the nuts and bolts of the organization and keep our
club functioning. Thank you for caring and serving. And
a special thank you to my lovely wife Robin for helping
me so much over the past year—especially with “meet the
members”. I know she regrets volunteering on that one.
Tim Sullivan, our Membership Chairman. He handles
our membership rosters, keeping current phone numbers,
addresses and greets new members as they come into
the club. Thank you for keeping us organized and our
membership roster complete.
President’s Message
Well, this being my first President’s message, I want to
thank all of you for putting your trust in me to Pilot our
Region. I hope to live up to your expectations. I truly
welcome any suggestions or recommendations that any
of you may have for the coming year. It is better for any
organization to have multiple views and opinions on what
should be done in the future, what we need to change and
what to keep doing that our members are enjoying. Please
feel free to contact me by phone or email to discuss any
thoughts or ideas that you may have. I really would like
to hear from you!
This Region owes a great deal of gratitude to many people
for keeping it operating. I would like to take a few minutes
to thank these people for their service. First and foremost
to Edie Walker for keeping this club running over the past
ten years. If it was not for Edie, we would not even exist as
a club today. Next, to the work of Joel Duling, our exiting
president. Joel started the rejuvenation of the club a little
over two years ago. I still can remember his initial call to
me asking if there was any interest in revitalizing the club
and if I would consider being an officer. If it wasn’t for
his interest in the club we wouldn’t have our newsletter,
Wednesday get togethers, the club tours or other events
that we all enjoy. And because of that, I personally
wouldn’t have had the chance to have met many of the
people in the club whom I now call friends.
Everyone knows this club does not run because of the
president alone. It takes many helpers, members and
officers to put on events, handle the finances, manage the
membership roster, keep the web site up to date and put
the newsletter together. Some of these people you may
know and some of them I’m sure you have never met.
Please thank these people next time you see them for their
time and effort. Every one of them deserve a raise for the
work they do (of course, all officers and chair people are
non-paid volunteers), but they are the type of people who
wouldn’t accept a raise even if it was offered to them.
John Allen, our Web Site Master, has done a terrific job
at updating our site and keeping it current. He really
does a professional job—if you haven’t viewed the site,
please take a look. There are usually more pictures of the
events that we can post on the site than we can put into
the newsletter. I’m sure John loves it when we get finished
with an event and he gets an e-mail from me. He knows
what’s coming next (more things to post). Thank you John,
for maintaining such a wonderful site.
Brett Lewis, for putting our newsletter together. Brett
and I work very closely when compiling the newsletter—
probably in his opinion, too closely. He arranges the pages,
puts in artwork, squeezes in the ads, fills in articles that
we have space for and adds the numerous articles that I
send him. Somehow he makes it all fit. It is his hard work
that makes the newsletter look the way it does. And I for
one, think it looks wonderful. He does all of this, and he
isn’t even a member of the club. Thank you Brett for your
exceptional work and your patience with me.
Linda Bein, our Zone representative. She has taken
numerous calls regarding club activities and “how do we
do this” questions. She is the biggest cheerleader of our
club! Thank you for the help and generous support.
Beta Graphics, located in Idaho Falls, does the printing of
our newsletter. They work quickly to get the newsletter
printed and out to our members. Thank you for your
suggestions in making our newsletter more affordable
and a better quality publication.
Lastly I’d like to thank all of the members who attended
our Wednesday get togethers, Annual Banquet, Club
Tour and American Le Mans Series Race in Salt Lake City.
Without participants, a club just isn’t much of a club. I hope
we have even more club participation in the future. If you
decide to participate, I can almost guarantee you will have
a good time and meet some wonderful people. The club
has a nice selection of events for 2007. Be sure to look at
the club calendar and watch for the upcoming events in
the newsletter. Then block out your calendar, bring your
Porsche and come have some fun. Hope to see you all at
a future event soon!

Oktoberfest -- Yellowstone Region Style
Our club celebrated another quarterly get
together at The Sidewinder Bar and Grill on
October 25th. There were over 40 members who
braved the snowy weather to join in on the pizza
dinner and socialize with other club members.
Our newly elected Board of Directors were
introduced as well as nine new members. By
the time the get together broke up, the weather
had cleared for the drive home. By the looks of
the pictures, I think
it’s safe to say that
everyone
had
a
good time. Thanks
to everyone who
came and continue
to support the PCAYellowstone Region.

Dyson Racing and Porsche
Partners Again
POUGHKEEPSIE, NY Dec. 18 – Porsche and endurance
sports car racing; Dyson Racing and Porsche:
synonymous phrases. Dyson Racing and Porsche
are back together: the Thetford/Norcold team will be
running two LMP2 RS Spyders in the American Le
Mans Series in 2007. The team ran Porsche 962s in IMSA
GTP from 1985 through 1991, winning a dozen races
with nineteen podium finishes and four consecutive
Porsche Cups. They won the first race they ran with
the Porsche at Lime Rock in May of 1985. In the two
decades since, they have not relinquished their title as
America’s premier sports car team.
“The 962 was an exquisite looking race car,” noted
Rob Dyson. “And like the old air plane adage, if it
looks right, it will fly right. It was a great car to drive
and that is what Porsche does best, building ultimate
customer race cars with their renowned engineering
and support behind them. To combine that Porsche
perfection with our successful tradition brings a whole
new level of enthusiasm to our team for the upcoming
season. This is a reuniting of old family members,
building on our partnership of mutual respect and a
shared winning history.”
Hartmut Kristen, head of Porsche Motorsport
worldwide, was pleased that a team of Dyson’s caliber
has decided to embrace the RS Spyder program.
“When we announced our ALMS participation, it
was our target to have the RS Spyder being raced
by customer teams in 2007,” said Krisen. “We will
continue our development work together with the
Penske Motorsports team. The results of this work
will be made available to our customer teams. The RS
Spyders for Penske and Dyson are exactly the same
2007 models, and the engines we are providing to the
teams are identical as well.”
“We will be competing next year with a proven package
that has race data and advancement behind it,” Chris
Dyson said. “Porsche won the ALMS championship
last year and that
is a strong selling
point. Our team will
be racing at the most
competitive level in
ALMS, where new
teams, drivers and
manufactures are
going to be focusing their considerable resources. We
will be able to showcase who we are as a team and
concentrate on winning races and championships.”
Dyson Racing has sixteen team and driver
championships and sixty-one wins since that first GTP
win at Lime Rock twenty one years ago. Anchoring
this new package and era for Dyson Racing will be the
familiar #20 blue and white Thetford/Norcold entry
driven by Chris Dyson and Guy Smith and #16 with
Butch Leitzinger and Andy Wallace. The team will
be testing their first car at the January 21 – 24 ALMS
Winter Test at Sebring and racing both at the first race
of the season, the Mobil 1 12 Hours of Sebring on
March 17, 2007.

200,000th Boxster rolls
off the production line
Porsche is celebrating a special
production
milestone:
The
200,000th Boxster just rolled
off the production line at its
partner Valmet Automotive in
Uusikaupunki, Finland. This
landmark vehicle, a meteor
grey metallic Boxster S, is being
delivered to a customer in the
US. Ten years ago, no one would
have believed what a huge
success this Porsche mid-range
roadster has become. Thanks to
the flexible production system,
they can manufacture the Boxster
model at both the main plant in
Zuffenhausen and at Valmet.
At the roadster’s launch in 1996,
Porsche had assumed an annual
production of 15,000 units. In this
past year, total sales of this model
series, which now includes the
Cayman Coupe, amounted to
27,906 units. North America is
the largest market for the Boxster
and accounts for 40% of the total
sales followed by the German
market at 20%. Let’s hear it for
the Boxster!

MEET THE MEMBERS
Mike and Nancy Faems
Scott Anderson
Mike and Nancy Faems fulfilled a lifelong dream when they
moved to Jackson Hole last winter from the Chicago area.
They love the beauty, the adventure, and most of all the
people, that make this valley unique. What’s more, is there
a better place on earth to drive a Porsche?
When I was a little boy, growing up in Boston, I use to sit on
a brick wall with my best friend Kevin and watch the cars
go by. Each of us would pick a number and count the cars
as they would come up the hill and pass us on those long,
hot summer days. The number of the car we picked would
be the car we were destined to have for life. Some of the cars
were junkers for sure and certainly gave us many hours of
entertainment. Little did I know that our game would be
the beginning of a lifetime obsession.
Mike realized another lifelong dream when he started racing
six years ago. Nancy has a slightly different perspective.
She says giving Mike a three-day Skip Barber race school
as a birthday present was the biggest mistake she’s made
in her life. Mike’s a regular at the PCA Club Races at Road
America, Sebring, Road Atlanta, various other Midwest
tracks, and competed at the inaugural club race at Daytona
in October. His favorite is Road Atlanta. “Combine the kink
at Road America with the Corkscrew at Laguna Seca, and
you get the hill at Road Atlanta. It’s kinda like driving off
a ten story building, and turning right when you reach 100
mph on the way down.” Mike’s the founder and inspiration
for “Hey Wait For Me Racing”, (HWFMR.com) a cyber race
team that began on Rennlist.com and now has more than
150 members around the world.
The Faems stable includes a 944S2 built to PCA F Class
specs, and two of the last air-cooled 911s – a ’97 993 C2 cab
and a ’97 993 C2 coupe. When he’s not driving, racing or
talking about Porsches, Mike’s an avid hiker, fly fisherman
and amateur photographer.
Nancy enjoys spoiling their three grandchildren, hiking,
reading, bridge, and tennis, and has recently taken up golf.
Mike too enjoys a round of golf, but has been known to walk
off the course once he has lost an entire box of balls.
Currently they live slope-side at Snow King, but are
fulfilling yet another lifelong dream -- building their own
home with views of Glory, Rendezvous and the Grand.
(Nancy, ever the savvy one, has limited the garage space
to two Porsches). Nancy and Mike are thrilled to be in the
shadow of the Tetons, and look forward to connecting with
other Yellowstone Region members.

As I grew older, I always thought Porsche was one of those
unattainable cars I could only dream about. You know
the cars movie stars drove that they parked at their crib.
Needless to say, the only crib I lived in was the hand me
down from my nine brothers and sisters.
After returning to school to continue my education, all for
the dream of actually being able to “live” in Jackson, my
obsession grew. Purchasing eight cars on ebay, all within
the past three years, certainly made me feel like a Corky
Walker wannabe - buying cars below invoice, only to sell
for a profit.
All until the day I stumbled upon my 911 with the 993 body
upgrade. This was the car I thought I had to be ultra-wealthy
to afford. (There are definitely days that I still wonder – but
that’s another story.) Anyway, here it sits. Me and my 1987
Porsche. It’s a looker for sure. I am not sure which I enjoy
more… pulling into a gas station and having pimply little
face me step out to the ahhh’s of the onlookers (ta-daa!!!)
or actually being able to drive it. I tell my friends I try to
remain inconspicuous, but they laugh every time they see
me and my dog Caleb driving around town. Neon yellow
they say – how inconspicuous is that? My friend Kate tells
me that I need counseling – she thinks eight cars in three
years is whacked. I can only agree with her just a tiny bit.
Little does she know I found a support group instead.
Here’s to the Yellowstone Porsche club and to Ken and
Robin, my new leaders. Someday, I hope to step up to a
turbo… then I’ll be cool.
Old Faithful Porsche
PORSCHE CLUB OF AMERICA - YELLOWSTONE REGION
by more than one person and that signaled to me that
maybe a few other members may also be unaware of
the quality of fuels they are buying. Why don’t we
take a look at all of these questions and you can be
the judge whether Shell or Chevron fuels are worth
the extra cost for your car. I will only concentrate on
these two brands since they are the major branded
fuel companies in our area. Other brands may meet
the Top Tier fuel requirements but since I did not have
the time to examine the practices or interview the
engineers from the other companies, I will make no
claims for them. Here are some of the most common
questions and comments that were made.
Question 1 – Shell and Chevron do not even have
refineries in our area. So how can we possibly get their
gas and representative additives at our stations?
Ken’s Corner
Top Tier Fuel.
Is it worth the money?
On a recent club driving tour, I was surprised to
learn of the confusion regarding gasoline used by our
members. Most of the members that I had discussions
with thought that all fuels were about the same. They
even asked why I would pay four cents per gallon
more for branded gas. Let’s take a closer look at what
makes fuels different.
To be able to answer these
questions with more expertise
and use indisputable facts
in this article, I have done
some research on the subject.
I have spoken with several
fuel engineers as well as the
marketing and the fuel research departments at
both Shell and Chevron. I contacted both engine and
emissions specialists at General Motors. And I have also
researched many Internet web sites for information
on this particular subject. Now let it be known, I am
not a fuel engineer, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn
last night…just kidding. First, let us get some of the
questions that were being asked of me on the tour and
during some private conversations (implying that I
was not very smart for buying branded gas) out onto
the table. I might add, that these questions were asked
Answer 1 – Correct. Shell and
Chevron do not have refineries in
our area. Their fuels, along with
generic gas (take 91 Octane for
instance), all come out of the same
“depots” which are located in
Wyoming and Idaho (Pocatello for Chevron). As the
fuel is being loaded onto the tanker truck, the Techron
(for Chevron) and Shell’s proprietary additive package
(for Shell V-Power) are injected into the fuel to give
the ratio that Shell or Chevron requires. So the fuel
you buy in Wyoming has the identical additive blend
as the fuel that comes out of the Shell or Chevron
refineries in California. The non-branded fuels are also
injected with their specified fuel additives as they are
loaded onto the tanker trucks, although they may not
necessarily meet the Top Tier Detergent Standards set
by major car manufacturers,. By the way, the injection
of additives into the fuel as it is being loaded onto the
tanker truck is a common industry practice across
America.
Q2 – The fuel is delivered in no-name gas tanker trucks
to the branded gas stations. The tankers then go from
the branded station to the generic station to deliver
fuel. Therefore, all stations must get the same type of
fuel.
A2 – True. The fuel is delivered
in tanker trucks that are not
owned by Shell or Chevron. The
tanker truck is owned by an independent contractor
who is hired by Shell or Chevron or their branded
Old Faithful Porsche
11
PORSCHE CLUB OF AMERICA - YELLOWSTONE REGION
marketers to deliver their fuels. Each tanker truck
(which looks like one large tank) actually has two to
four smaller tank compartments inside. Each tank can
be loaded with a different fuel. A fully loaded tanker
truck in our area holds 11,000 gallons of fuel in 5-6
separate tanks (because of the ability for the tractor
truck to tow a second separate tanker trailer). The fuel
delivered to Shell and Chevron stations contain only
their branded fuels. When the tanker truck delivers
fuel to a non-branded station, they deliver an entirely
different blend of detergent fuels out of another tank.
The fuel will not contain Techron or Shell’s V-Power
package as an additive nor the same percentage of
detergents.
Q3- Shell and Chevron stations could put generic fuel
into their tanks with no one ever knowing and then
sell it for branded gas and keep the profit.
A3 – Shell and Chevron put proprietary
“markers” in their gas. The oil companies
monitor their individual stations by
sampling the fuel that is dispensed
out of the gas station’s fuel nozzle.
The fuel is then sent to a lab (typically
an independent one) and analyzed for the respective
company. If the marker is not present, this would
indicate that the station does not have the branded gas
that they are suppose to have and the station would
then lose their franchise. The labs are able to detect
very small changes to the fuel, so if another brand of
fuel is mixed into the station’s fuel tank the lab would
be able to detect it. Both Shell and Chevron are very
protective of their fuels and the quality of product
they deliver to their customer.
Q4- Even if additives in the fuel are different, they are
not worth the increased price.
A4 – The EPA requires a
minimum concentration level of
detergent additives in gasoline.
Shell Regular and Plus gasoline’s
contain more than two times the cleaning agent
required by the EPA. Shell V-Power has more than five
times the amount required by the EPA. At that level,
Shell V-Power actually cleans the engine as you drive,
giving it the ability to clean up deposits that have
already built up on intake valves and fuel injectors left
behind by low detergent gasoline’s. Chevron gasoline’s
contain concentrations of the Techron additive which
12
remove deposits lower quality gasoline’s can leave
behind as well. In addition, Chevron has the ability
to remove deposits in all three grades of its gasoline.
The generic brands generally contain the absolute
minimum amount of detergent required by the EPA
and therefore do not have the ability to clean the
engine of deposits.
Q5 – When I mentioned “Top Tier” fuel to most of our
members, their answer was; what is Top Tier?
A5 – “Top Tier” detergent gasoline helps keep engines
cleaner than gasoline’s containing the minimum
amount required by government regulations. This
helps provide optimal fuel economy, performance
and reduced emissions. Top Tier detergent standards
were developed by BMW, GM, Honda and Toyota and
were aimed at reversing the national trend toward
lower gasoline additive concentrations. Both Shell
and Chevron meet the standards of Top Tier in all of
their grades of fuel with Chevron being the first fuel
company to meet the Top Tier Requirements. Three
other brands that pass the Top Tier Requirements in
our area are Texaco, Conoco and Phillips. Generic
brands generally do not meet Top Tier standards in
any of their grades of fuels.
Q6 – Are branded fuels really worth the extra money?
A6 – If helping your fuel injectors to atomize the fuel
to their fullest; keeping intake runners and valves
clean so fuel does not adhere to the deposits and
then drip into the cylinders; keeping performance
to the maximum and emissions to the minimum by
burning fuel more efficiently; then using a quality
fuel should be important to you…but is it? Deposits
on the inside of an engine are
similar to plaque on the inside
of an artery. It takes a long
time for the deposits to become
noticeable, but there will never
the less be a continual decrease
in performance whether it is in
an automobile or in a human.
With proper fuels in a car or
drugs in a human, symptoms
can be reversed.
Lastly, one word on octane: All of our cars are designed
to run on a specified octane and is generally stated
on the inside of the gas filler flap/door and owner’s
Old Faithful Porsche
PORSCHE CLUB OF AMERICA - YELLOWSTONE REGION
manual. It is very important to use the fuels required.
At our elevation (because of the lack of oxygen
compared to sea level) the octane requirement is
generally diminished (unless you have a turbo-charged
engine). All of the newer Porsches have compensating
mechanisms to retard the ignition timing of the engine
if the octane requirements are not being met (at least
up to a certain point). Older cars do not have this
compensating mechanism. Newer as well as older cars
will eventually develop detonation (which you may
not even be aware of while driving), when the octane
level drops low enough. This detonation can eventually
lead to engine destruction. The most important thing
to remember about octane is that having an octane
level too high will not harm an engine…having an
octane level too low can be catastrophic. Therefore do
not try and save money by reducing the octane level
of the fuel required. On a side note; putting a higher
octane fuel in your car than is required might, but will
not necessarily improve its performance.

A few interesting bits of information that you may
be interested in. (1) Chevron has been supplying the
gasoline that the Big Three Detroit Automakers use to
accumulate mileage on their vehicles to demonstrate
compliance with the US-EPA’s 50,000 and 100,000 mile
emissions durability requirement test. Even though the
closest supply point is 350 miles away in Louisville,
KY, the Big Three pay to have the fuel trucked into
Detroit. The Big Three must believe that by using
Chevron fuels, they have their best chance to keep the
vehicles performing to their optimum and passing the
EPA’s requirements. (2) There are a number of Porsche
racers and collectors who I personally know that add
Techron (Chevron’s well known additive/detergent)
to their race fuel. They add it to prevent their fuel
injectors from clogging and to keep their fuel systems
clean during prolonged periods of storage. They, as
well as I, believe it is cheap insurance.
Putting this into context; our engines are more complex,
higher performance and more expensive to maintain
than the engines from BMW, GM, Honda and Toyota.
If those manufacturers specify Top Tier fuels in their
cars for performance reasons, it only seems logical to
me, that running anything less in our cars is asking
for problems. Everyone has heard the saying, “Pay
me now, or pay me later”. The decision is yours to
make. With the price of repairs and the cost of our car
engines, I personally believe buying a premium TopTier Fuel is money well spent.

Ken Garff Porsche Day at the Track
Ken Garff Motors would like to invite all Porsche
enthusiasts to our Ken Garff Day at the Track for
2007. We had a great time at our three events this
year, and as such we want to do the same type of
schedule next year...that is one day on the Miller
Motorsport Park East Track, one day on West Track
and one day Full Track. Our events will continue
to feature catered meals, emergency staffing and
20 or more instructors as needed.
Pricing is to be determined, but that is to your
advantange as we are working hard at reducing
the expense from our events this year. Depending
on the number of pre-signed entries we expect our
East and West dates to be no more than $349 to
$399, and our full track day at no more than $749
to $799. What’s more, since this is not intended to
be a money-making event, should enough people
pre-sign as to cover the bases effectively the prices
will drop further still. Quality is not to be affected
though, as we choose to limit the event to 45
individuals and three run groups for each, with
the Full Track day going to two run groups after
lunch. So encourage yourfriends to bring their
favorite car and join us!
16
The dates for 2007 are as follows:
Thursday, April 19th, East Track
Thursday, June 7th, Full Track
Friday, September 21st, West Track
Please contact me directly to sign up by one of

PORSCHE CLUB OF AMERICA - YELLOWSTONE REGION
“Given the tremendous response to our last event
there,” said Peter Schwarzenbauer, president and
chief executive officer of Porsche Cars North America,
“Daytona International Speedway is the logical choice
as the site for Porsche Rennsport Reunion III. It is
filled with Porsche racing history and is one of the few
tracks in America capable of conducting an event of
this magnitude.”
DAYTONA INTERNATIONAL
SPEEDWAY TO HOST PORSCHE
RENNSPORT REUNION III IN
NOVEMBER OF 2007
World’s Largest Gathering of Porsche Race Cars and
Drivers to Highlight Porsche 917 and Celebrate 25th
Anniversary of Porsche 956/962
ATLANTA, GA – Dec. 20, 2006 — Porsche Cars North
America (PCNA) and Daytona International Speedway
today announced Porsche Rennsport Reunion III will
take place at the famed Florida racetrack the weekend
of November 2-4, 2007.
Sponsored by PCNA and organized by Brian Redman’s
Intercontinental Events, Inc., Porsche Rennsport
Reunion III is open to the public and brings together
an unprecedented gathering of significant Porsche
vintage and current racecars and those who have driven
them to victory in the world’s most famous sports
car races. It features a three-day program of on-track
competition plus a concours d’elegance, which is open
to the event’s participants by invitation. In addition,
special activities are planned honoring the series of
awesome Porsche 917 racecars and commemorating
the 25th Anniversary of the racing debut of the allconquering Porsche 956/962 prototype racers.
Held at three-year intervals, the third edition of Porsche
Rennsport Reunion returns to Daytona International
Speedway following that track’s highly successful
staging of Porsche Rennsport Reunion II in 2004. On
that occasion, more than 600 Porsche racecars and dozens of legendary Porsche race drivers participated in a
truly memorable weekend dedicated to Porsche’s motorsport heritage.
Porsche Rennsport Reunion III will honor two of
Porsche’s most historic racing models – the Porsche 917
and Porsche 956/962. In coupe form, the 12-cylinder
917/K was the first Porsche to score an overall win the
24 Hours of Le Mans, scoring back-to-back victories in
the 1970 and 1971 editions of the French racing classic.
Fitted with twin-turbochargers producing more than
1000 horsepower, the mighty open-cockpit 917/10 and
917/30 rocketed to Sports Car Club of America Can-Am
championships in 1972 and 1973. These achievements
by the 917 moved Porsche to the forefront of the sports
car racing world.
Since making its Le Mans debut in 1982 with a stunning
one-two-three overall finish, the Porsche 956 and its
962 stable mate have established themselves as the
most successful models in the history of international
sports car racing. Among their record number of
overall victories spanning 14 seasons are seven in the
24 Hours of Le Mans, six in the Rolex 24 at Daytona,
and four in the 12 Hours of Sebring.
Additional details of the Porsche Rennsport Reunion
will be published on Porsche’s press web site (www.
press.porsche.com), Brian Redman’s Intercontinental
Events web site (www.rennsport2007.com), and
Daytona International Speedway’s web site (http://
www.daytonainternationalspeedway.com/), as they
become available. Ticket information is available by
contacting Daytona International Speedway at 1-800PITSHOP.

Porsche wins Popular Science
Magazine’s Award
Porsche has just won the “Best of What’s New” for
the Automotive category in the December issue
of Popular Science Magazine. The award was
chosen from 100 tech innovations with Porsche
being awarded the Grand Award. This award was
granted to Porsche for the 911 Turbo in recognition
of its great technical advances. The award was
chosen for the development and implementation
of Porsche’s variable turbine geometry (VTG).
Previous applications of this concept encountered
difficulties due to high operating temperatures—
not a problem easily solved with contemporary
materials. After nearly two decades, aerospacegrade materials have allowed the progression of
VTG technology to the point that it can now reliably
operate in the higher-temperature environment of
turbocharged gasoline engines. Porsche’s version
of VTG in the 2007 Turbo incorporates these
latest material applications, plus a sophisticated
control algorithm. The combination produces the
advantages of both small and large turbochargers,
generating a much wider plateau of torque and
providing quicker response compared to the
previous generation 911 Turbo, while providing
the reliability of fixed-vane turbochargers.
I had the privilege of driving one of our members
new 997 Turbo in November and I can assure
you that there is a huge leap in performance over
the Turbos of the past (unbelievable as that may
seem).

A Porsche 356 Story
For the 356 buffs in the club! These pictures were
taken by a friend of mine in California. The car is
a “pre A 1953 356 Super”. It’s very special since it
is totally unmolested (never been in an accident)
and original. It has a roller bearing crank and
only 20,000 original miles. It was bought by a well
known celebrity, so I can only imagine what the
new owner paid.
Some people enjoy modifying their Porsches for road
racing, rallying (both on and off road), auto-crossing or
just to have a unique car. I think he has accomplished at
least one of these modifications? Huuummmm!

Der Neu Cayenne ist kommen!
The 2nd generation Cayenne is about to be released!
Porsche is presenting these new attractively
redesigned models with more powerful DFI
(direct fuel injection) engines. HP for the “S” is
now 385 with a whopping 500 HP for the Turbo.
Fuel consumption has been improved by 8-15%.
As before, optimum power transmission is
ensured by Porsche Traction Management (PTM)
which, in standard operating mode, distributes
engine power between the rear and front wheels
in a ration of 62:38. The multi-disk clutch can
direct up to 100% of the drive traction to the front
or rear as required.
The new model will arrive in Porsche showrooms
starting February.
