INTRODUCTION
In the name of Allah, the most Merciful, the especially Merciful.
All praise is due to Allah
alone, who is in command of all the
knowledge in the world for it is He who has taught us all that we
know.
Our children are a trust from Allah
. I know that this has
become somewhat of a cliché, but when we think of standing in front of Allah
Questioning, we realise the importance of this statement.
on the Day of
Out of the three deeds that will continue to benefit man after his death, one of them is a righteous child
who prays for him. We know that guidance is from Allah
saying of our beloved Prophet Muhammad
, but we need to ponder over the following
:
PL
E
"All of you are shepherds and each one is responsible for his flock. A leader of a people is a shepherd
and responsible for them. A man is a shepherd over his family and is responsible for them. A woman is
a shepherd over her husband's house and his children and she is responsible for them. And a servant
is a guardian over his master's property and is responsible for it. So all of you are guardians and are
responsible for your charges." (Bukhari)
SA
M
Education is sacred in Islam, for the first command to the Prophet Muhammad
was the command
to read. Children are like a blank canvas, and can be
likened to clay that is ready to be molded – wet and
compliant. Giving them the right education in the
right way at a tender age is what will shape their
characters and determine what kind of Muslims

How to use this guide
First and foremost, purify your intention. Teach for the sake of Allah
become a form of worship.
:
E
Begin every lesson with the remembrance of Allah
and it will inshaAllah
PL
Please remember that each child is unique so use this guide as it was meant to be used – as a guide and
not a rigid curriculum. Do the activities that you know your child/ren will enjoy so they can learn to love
learning. You don’t need to do all the activities for each topic. For literacy, you can supplement with an
appropriate reading scheme for phonic knowledge.
M
The Year 1 curriculum guide includes Numeracy, Literacy, Science, Geography and History. All subjects
follow the new National Curriculum 2014 as a guideline except from History – which begins from the
beginning of creation and what the authentic sources say about how man came to live on Earth, the
Stories of the Prophets and what lessons we learn from them.
SA
For the rest of the years, we will inshaaAllah cover the stories of the rest of the Prophets, the Seerah
and Islamic History, World History from an Islamic perspective, and the contribution of Muslims to
everyday inventions and educational milestones until present time.
You, as the teacher, can determine how each child will progress through the topics. Do not feel limited
to the activities in this curriculum. It is meant to be a guide that will spark your imagination and inspire
you to teach in a more holistic way.
Be patient and have fun, bi ithnillah! BISMILLAH!

20 pages with the things they collected (draw the items or stick them
on)
Ask the children to gather 20 leaves and count them. See how many
different colours they can find. Take them home and assist them with
leaf printing. Instruct them to count their prints and write the number
under each leaf. Alternatively, they can write the numbers directly on
the leaves, and laminate them before sticking them on their
handmade number poster!
Lie down with your child in the garden. Count as many stars as you
can. Try to reach 100. Recite Surah Layl, Surah Burooj or Surah
Tariq once done. Reflect on translation.
E
Go on a trip with lots of stairs. Go up in ones or twos.

Every day, choose one number to recognise - point it out everywhere
you see it - and help the child practice writing it. Use other mediums
e.g. chalk on pavement, sand/flour on a dark roasting pan, etc. Make
number mosaics and number practice with finger painting. Help them
order their finished creations from 1-20. Play a game of picking one
while the children close their eyes. They can then open their eyes
and guess which number is missing.
During Ramadan make a Balloon calendar of 30 days. Each balloon
is labelled with a number and has sweets inside to enjoy once
popped!
E
Print and laminate number cards and use them to label objects that
you count.
Purchase or make a numbers poster together.
PL
Count their fingers and toes and make finger puppets with numbers
on them (make separate ones for Arabic). Do it slowly so the child
learns to say only one number per finger. You can make the puppets
out of felt and write the numbers on with a permanent marker.
SA
M
Make a number clothes line:
Write the numbers 1 to 20 on card cut in the shape of shirts. Pin them
on string using clothes pegs and hang them up together. Ask the
child to close their eyes while you remove a number or jumble up the
numbers. See if they can spot the missing number or mistake.

to the children as often as possible. Let them
get familiar with the stories. Divide the stories

dealt with that) and the end (the consequence
of the actions of the disbelievers – punishment
and reward of the patience of the Prophets)
Look up words that are unfamiliar in a dictionary together.
