The Actors
Dan Kapler (El Gallo) Dan is pleased to make his debut at Los Altos Stage Company as El Gallo, a role he has cherished in a show he
considers one of the most perfect ever written. Other featured roles
in Bay Area productions include: Georges in La Cage Aux Folles,
Atticus Finch in To Kill A Mockingbird, Lawrence in Dirty Rotten
Scoundrels, Sky in Guys N’ Dolls, Henry Higgins in My Fair Lady,
Bill Sykes in Oliver!, Harold in The Full Monty, Capt. Von Trapp
in Sound of Music, Peachum in Threepenny Opera, Paul Sheldon in Misery, Charlie in
The Foreigner, Antonio in Twelfth Night and Manolo in The Female Odd Couple. Dan
is grateful to everyone involved with this production for their amazing talent and teamwork, to his extended theatre family, and to our audiences for supporting local theatre.
Casey Ellis (Luisa) Casey Ellis is so happy to be playing Luisa!
Casey is a graduate of the San Francisco Conservatory of Music
where she received her Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance.
Favorite roles include Johanna Barker in Napa Valley Conservatory’s production of Sweeney Todd, Jo March in Little Women,
Stella Kowalski in A Streetcar Named Desire, and Penny Pennywise
in Urinetown. Casey was most recently seen in Foothill Theater’s
production of Spring Awakening as Ilse, Sound of Music with Berkeley Playhouse as
Liesl von Trapp and The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee with Napa Valley
Players as Olive Ostrovsky. Thanks to my wonderful family, friends and my Emkay.
Ryan Mardesich (Matt) Ryan Mardesich is happy to be making his
debut at the Los Altos Stage Company. Ryan was last seen in Los Altos
in the role of Moritz Steifel in Foothill Music Theatre’s production of
Spring Awakening. Ryan is a student at Santa Clara University studying

Shop of Horrors and King Louis XIII in The Three Musketeers. Ryan is
also a staff member at Broadway By The Bay where he recently starred
as The Artful Dodger in Oliver! Ryan would like to thank the cast, the
staff, and his teachers.
Ruth E Stein (Bellomy) This is RuthE’s third time playing a mother of
a teenaged daughter at the Los Altos Stage Company (Bus Barn). Past
productions were: The Government Inspector (Anna) and The Last Night
of Ballyhoo (Boo Levy). This award-winning actor/vocalist/director/
producer/props designer/set dresser has performed throughout the U.S.
and extensively in the Bay Area. Recent credits include: Auntie Juliana

Security and portraying Benjamin Franklin in Tabard Theatre’s all-female version of 1776 in
February 2014. Also watch for her one-woman cabaret show, Sister Robert Anne’s Cabaret
Class, at Limelight Actor’s Theatre in Gilroy in April 2014. Yes, she will be playing a singing nun wielding a mean feather boa!
Todd Wright (Huckabee) Todd is pleased to return to the Los Altos
Stage Company, where he was seen in last season’s The House of Blue
Leaves. Todd has done extensive work all over the South Bay Area,

PRODUCTION STAFF
Gary Landis (Director) Gary joined the Los Altos Stage Company in 2012 and was recently
named Executive Director, bringing with him 25 years of arts management experience with
organizations large and small across a variety of disciplines (theater, music, visual arts).
He worked in regional theater in Washington, D.C (Arena Stage) and educational theater
in New York City (Creative Arts Team), before moving to the Bay Area in 1998. Over the
course of his long and winding career in the arts, Gary has been an actor, director, scenic
designer, stage manager, stagehand, arts marketer, and fundraising professional. His life
in the theater began at an early age, acting in Los Angeles-based youth theater, and then
continued to deepen throughout high school and college in Southern California to include
directing and stage design. Gary holds a bachelor’s degree in theater arts from California
State University, Northridge, a master’s degree in theater history, theory, and criticism from
the University of Pittsburgh, and a master’s degree in arts management from Carnegie Mellon
University. This is Gary’s inaugural production directing for the Los Altos Stage Company.
Gus Kambeitz (Musical Director) Gus currently is the Director of Instrumental Studies at
West Valley College. Before coming to West Valley College, Gus was a full time instructor
at Washington State University (2001-02) where he taught Music Education, Jazz Bass,
Vocal Jazz Ensemble and Rock History. He is currently the artistic director for “Nineteen,
San Jose’s Professional Jazz Orchestra” which performs 4 concerts a year at the Theater on
San Pedro Square. These concerts and this professional jazz band are unique in San Jose.
As a conductor, he has worked with Palo Alto Players, West Valley Light Opera, Sunnyvale
Community Theater, Saratoga Drama Group, Tabard Theatre, and City Lights. Gus was the
assistant musical director for the regional premier of Side Show for TheatreWorks where
he also played bass for many productions. (Cabaret, Tapestry, Passion, Kiss Of The Spider
Woman). As a bassist, Gus has been consistently working since being hired at Marriott’s Great
America in 1981. After Great America, he spent a number of years with Princess Cruises
and from 1992-95 Gus was the bassist with San Francisco’s long running hit musical Beach
Blanket Babylon. Gus has also performed with San Jose Stage (The Great American Trailer
Park Musical, Avenue Q, Cabaret, The Buddy Holly Story, Reefer Madness). In summers
Gus tours with Legends in Concert. Gus also plays at the Hedley Club at the De Anza Hotel
every Monday evening from 5-7 pm.
Jillian Toby Cummings (Choreographer) Jillian has directed and choreographed at many
theaters in the Bay Area for over past10 years. She started choreographing in high school
for school musicals (the only non-staff member to be on the artistic staff) and went on to
receive her BA in Theatre and Dance from Chapman University. For the past two years
she has been the Artistic Director at Theatre in the Mountains in Los Gatos, but her real
accomplishment is mothering her 1 year old twins, Ellora and Kellen. Jillian is thankful for
the exposure and support she was giving with the performing arts at a young age, which
she owes to her wonderful mother Laura Toby.
Daniel P. Wilson (Assistant Director/Sound Designer) Dan joined the Los Altos Stage
Company as Production Manager in the summer of 2012 and was recently named Associate Artistic Director. Audiences may remember him from last season’s On Golden Pond,
where he played the part of Bill Ray. He is an actor, director, arts leader, and educator, and
is also a seventh generation native of San Jose, California. Dan is a graduate of the Pacific
Conservatory of the Performing Arts in Santa Maria, CA and holds a BFA in Directing
from Roosevelt University in Chicago, IL. He has worked with the Goodman and Vitalist
Theatres in Chicago, with Sweden’s Teater Magnolia, Stockholms Stadsteater, Riksteatern,
and locally with Children’s Musical Theater San Jose, Peninsula Youth Theatre, Oakwood
High School, the Community School of Music & Art, and Willow Glen High School. Additionally, Dan has worked as a Commercial Casting Session Director for many of LA’s
top Casting Directors, as a Recruiter in the corporate realm, and he founded his own theatre
while living in Sweden, The New Reality Theatre. He sits on the Steering Committee of
genARTS Silicon Valley, and is an alum of Directors Lab West.
Catalina Niño Nieto (Scenic Designer) Catalina is designing her second show for Los Altos
Stage Company. She completed her MFA in Set Design at San Francisco State University in
May and is now working as a Set Designer and Scenic Painter in the Bay Area. Most recently
she designed and painted the sets for On Golden Pond at Los Altos Stage Co., References
to Salvador Dalí Make me Hot at SFSU, As Always: A New Musical at the Eureka Theatre,
The Book of Liz at Custom Made Theatre Co. and The Trial of Lucullus at SFSU. Catalina
was born in Colombia and came to the Bay Area after finishing her undergraduate studies
in Visual Arts in Paris and after completing her MA in Toulouse.
Kat Tan (Stage Manager) This is Kat’s first production with Los Altos Stage Company.
She was recently the SM for YMTC Berkeley’s Sweeney Todd. Other productions include
being the ASM for Les Liaisons Dangereuses for Dragon Theatre in Redwood City, SM for
The Flying Karamazov Brothers 40th Anniversary Show at San Jose Repertory Theatre, and
SM for Annie at Sunnyvale Community Players. As a former student at SJSU, she studied
Theater Arts with an emphasis in Stage Management. She worked on Beauty and The Beast,
Mummified Deer, Picasso and the Lapin Agile, A Streetcar Named Desire, The Bacchae, The
Laramie Project, and The Crucible and was also in a few productions there as well. She has
also worked as a Stage Manager at California’s Great America for 6 years. While not stage
managing, Kat still works at Great America doing administrative work.
Margaret Toomey (Costume Designer) Margaret works nationally in costume and scenic
design. Local costume credits include: Oliver! & Cats (BBBay); It’s a Wonderful Life (Los
Altos Stage) and Pericles (Shady Shakespeare). National credits include work at Triad
Stage (Greensboro, NC); Dallas Theater Center; Portland Stage Company (Portland, ME);
and ArtsWest Playhouse (Seattle). Margaret received her MFA in Scenography from UNC
Greensboro and BA in Theatre from Grinnell College in Iowa.
Carol Fischer (Lighting Designer) Carol Fischer worked for Bus Barn in the late 1990s as
a stage manager and more recently as sound designer for On Golden Pond. She is pleased
to be doing a second light design for Los Altos Stage Company after working with the team
for Avenue Q. Carol earned her MA at San Jose State, and has been working in the Theatre
Dept. of West Valley College since 1995 where she currently teaches, directs, and designs.
Her research connecting quantum physics philosophy and theatre theory completed a PhD
in Theatre Studies at UCSB in 2010, and she is an active member in the International Society for the Study of Time, reflecting a concept that is serendipitously of much interest in
The Fantasticks.
Ruth E. Stein/”propEARLYdone” (Props Design/Set Dresser) RuthE has provided props
and set dressing design services for most of the theatre companies in the area for the past
25 years. She took her passion for collecting cool old stuff and turned it into a business,
when she started providing most of the props for productions in which she was acting or

directing. She and her husband, Dave, enjoy the thrill of the hunt for the most unusual items,
such as the penny-farthing bicycle you see in tonight’s production (thanks for finding it,
Dave). When not playing props mistress, this retired Wells Fargo Bank Communications
Director can be found onstage (see her actor bio), at local estate/yard sales or watering the
flowers in her garden.
Larry Barrot (Fight Director) Larry received his BA in Theatre from Santa Clara University and he is currently working on completing his thesis for his MA in Theatre from SJSU.
Larry has been a Bay Area actor, director and fight director for the past 18 years. Prior to
that he was based in New York City where he worked in theatre and independent films. Past
productions include Henry V (directed; 2011), Much Ado About Nothing (directed; 2010),
Comedy of Errors (directed; 2008), Macbeth (Murderer; 2007), Tempest (Francisco; 2007),
