Other featured roles in Bay Area productions include: Georges in La Cage Aux Folles, Atticus Finch in To Kill A Mockingbird, Lawrence in Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Sky in Guys N’ Dolls, Henry Higgins in My Fair Lady, Bill Sykes in Oliver!, Harold in The Full Monty, Capt. Von Trapp in Sound of Music, Peachum in Threepenny Opera, Paul Sheldon in Misery, Charlie in The Foreigner, Antonio in Twelfth Night and Manolo in The Female Odd Couple. Dan is grateful to everyone involved with this production for their amazing talent and teamwork, to his extended theatre family, and to our audiences for supporting local theatre. Casey Ellis (Luisa) Casey Ellis is so happy to be playing Luisa! Casey is a graduate of the San Francisco Conservatory of Music where she received her Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance. Favorite roles include Johanna Barker in Napa Valley Conservatory’s production of Sweeney Todd, Jo March in Little Women, Stella Kowalski in A Streetcar Named Desire, and Penny Pennywise in Urinetown. Casey was most recently seen in Foothill Theater’s production of Spring Awakening as Ilse, Sound of Music with Berkeley Playhouse as Liesl von Trapp and The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee with Napa Valley Players as Olive Ostrovsky. Thanks to my wonderful family, friends and my Emkay. Ryan Mardesich (Matt) Ryan Mardesich is happy to be making his debut at the Los Altos Stage Company. Ryan was last seen in Los Altos in the role of Moritz Steifel in Foothill Music Theatre’s production of Spring Awakening. Ryan is a student at Santa Clara University studying theatre and music where he has played the roles of Seymour in Little Shop of Horrors and King Louis XIII in The Three Musketeers. Ryan is also a staff member at Broadway By The Bay where he recently starred as The Artful Dodger in Oliver! Ryan would like to thank the cast, the staff, and his teachers. Ruth E Stein (Bellomy) This is RuthE’s third time playing a mother of a teenaged daughter at the Los Altos Stage Company (Bus Barn). Past productions were: The Government Inspector (Anna) and The Last Night of Ballyhoo (Boo Levy). This award-winning actor/vocalist/director/ producer/props designer/set dresser has performed throughout the U.S. and extensively in the Bay Area. Recent credits include: Auntie Juliana Tesman (Hedda Gabler), Ida (The Cemetery Club), Guido’s Mother (Nine) and Ouisser (Steel Magnolias). Future projects include reprising one of her favorite roles, Sophie Greengrass in the Pintello Comedy Theater’s November production of Social Security and portraying Benjamin Franklin in Tabard Theatre’s all-female version of 1776 in February 2014. Also watch for her one-woman cabaret show, Sister Robert Anne’s Cabaret Class, at Limelight Actor’s Theatre in Gilroy in April 2014. Yes, she will be playing a singing nun wielding a mean feather boa! Todd Wright (Huckabee) Todd is pleased to return to the Los Altos Stage Company, where he was seen in last season’s The House of Blue Leaves. Todd has done extensive work all over the South Bay Area, from comedy to drama, from musicals to Shakespeare. Some favorite roles include George Graupner in Bach at Leipzig at The Pear Avenue Theatre, Juror 3 in 12 Angry Men at Broadway West, Alfie Doolittle in My Fair Lady at Foothill Musical Theatre, and Petruchio in Taming of the Shrew at the Los Gatos Shakespeare Festival. Martin Gagen (Henry) This is Martin’s second performance at the Los Altos Stage Company. He is an English actor with theatre and film experience and his theatre work has included many modern and classical productions. His recent Bay Area performances include George Bailey in It’s A Wonderful Life, A Live Radio Play, Adrian in Steven Dietz’ Private Eyes at the Dragon Theatre, Jimmy in Neil Simon’s The Gingerbread Lady at the Dragon Theatre, General Tilney and Mr. Morland in Jane Austen’s Northanger Abbey at The Pear Theatre, and the Narrator in C. S. Lewis’s The Magician’s Nephew at The Tabard Theatre. Martin trained with A.C.T. in San Francisco, and with the British American Drama Academy at Oxford University, where he worked with the founder of the Royal Shakespeare Company, John Barton. Ryk Houseman (Mortimer) This is Ryk’s second appearance at The Los Altos Stage Company. In It’s A Wonderful Life, A Live Radio Play, he played announcer Freddie Filmore, guardian angel Clarence, and the hated Henry Potter. Ryk’s musical experience includes Mr. Sowerberry in Oliver! and the dance chorus in Grease. Other shows include Flaming Idiots and My Three Angels with the Santa Clara Players, Inspecting Carol at Coastal Repertory, Of Mice and Men at Douglas Morrison Theatre, Bleacher Bums at Voice One Theatre in San Francisco as well as The Butler Did It, An Act of the Imagination, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, Nuts, The Man Who Came to Dinner, and A Christmas Carol among many others in Southern California theatres. Spencer Grey (The Mute) Spencer Grey is delighted to be working with the Los Altos Stage Company for his second time. Past performances include Georg in Spring Awakening at Foothill Theatre, Ephraim in Moon on a Rainbow Shawl at EVC Theatre, and The Bad Idea Bear & Company in Avenue Q at Los Altos Stage Company. He is also the consultant/designer for magical effects in this production. On other stages Spencer performs as a professional stage magician and entertainer, taking his act all over the Bay Area and even Las Vegas. Don’t miss all the exciting news about the new season! facebook.com/losaltosstage PRODUCTION STAFF Gary Landis (Director) Gary joined the Los Altos Stage Company in 2012 and was recently named Executive Director, bringing with him 25 years of arts management experience with organizations large and small across a variety of disciplines (theater, music, visual arts). He worked in regional theater in Washington, D.C (Arena Stage) and educational theater in New York City (Creative Arts Team), before moving to the Bay Area in 1998. Over the course of his long and winding career in the arts, Gary has been an actor, director, scenic designer, stage manager, stagehand, arts marketer, and fundraising professional. His life in the theater began at an early age, acting in Los Angeles-based youth theater, and then continued to deepen throughout high school and college in Southern California to include directing and stage design. Gary holds a bachelor’s degree in theater arts from California State University, Northridge, a master’s degree in theater history, theory, and criticism from the University of Pittsburgh, and a master’s degree in arts management from Carnegie Mellon University. This is Gary’s inaugural production directing for the Los Altos Stage Company. Gus Kambeitz (Musical Director) Gus currently is the Director of Instrumental Studies at West Valley College. Before coming to West Valley College, Gus was a full time instructor at Washington State University (2001-02) where he taught Music Education, Jazz Bass, Vocal Jazz Ensemble and Rock History. He is currently the artistic director for “Nineteen, San Jose’s Professional Jazz Orchestra” which performs 4 concerts a year at the Theater on San Pedro Square. These concerts and this professional jazz band are unique in San Jose. As a conductor, he has worked with Palo Alto Players, West Valley Light Opera, Sunnyvale Community Theater, Saratoga Drama Group, Tabard Theatre, and City Lights. Gus was the assistant musical director for the regional premier of Side Show for TheatreWorks where he also played bass for many productions. (Cabaret, Tapestry, Passion, Kiss Of The Spider Woman). As a bassist, Gus has been consistently working since being hired at Marriott’s Great America in 1981. After Great America, he spent a number of years with Princess Cruises and from 1992-95 Gus was the bassist with San Francisco’s long running hit musical Beach Blanket Babylon. Gus has also performed with San Jose Stage (The Great American Trailer Park Musical, Avenue Q, Cabaret, The Buddy Holly Story, Reefer Madness). In summers Gus tours with Legends in Concert. Gus also plays at the Hedley Club at the De Anza Hotel every Monday evening from 5-7 pm. Jillian Toby Cummings (Choreographer) Jillian has directed and choreographed at many theaters in the Bay Area for over past10 years. She started choreographing in high school for school musicals (the only non-staff member to be on the artistic staff) and went on to receive her BA in Theatre and Dance from Chapman University. For the past two years she has been the Artistic Director at Theatre in the Mountains in Los Gatos, but her real accomplishment is mothering her 1 year old twins, Ellora and Kellen. Jillian is thankful for the exposure and support she was giving with the performing arts at a young age, which she owes to her wonderful mother Laura Toby. Daniel P. Wilson (Assistant Director/Sound Designer) Dan joined the Los Altos Stage Company as Production Manager in the summer of 2012 and was recently named Associate Artistic Director. Audiences may remember him from last season’s On Golden Pond, where he played the part of Bill Ray. He is an actor, director, arts leader, and educator, and is also a seventh generation native of San Jose, California. Dan is a graduate of the Pacific Conservatory of the Performing Arts in Santa Maria, CA and holds a BFA in Directing from Roosevelt University in Chicago, IL. He has worked with the Goodman and Vitalist Theatres in Chicago, with Sweden’s Teater Magnolia, Stockholms Stadsteater, Riksteatern, and locally with Children’s Musical Theater San Jose, Peninsula Youth Theatre, Oakwood High School, the Community School of Music & Art, and Willow Glen High School. Additionally, Dan has worked as a Commercial Casting Session Director for many of LA’s top Casting Directors, as a Recruiter in the corporate realm, and he founded his own theatre while living in Sweden, The New Reality Theatre. He sits on the Steering Committee of genARTS Silicon Valley, and is an alum of Directors Lab West. Catalina Niño Nieto (Scenic Designer) Catalina is designing her second show for Los Altos Stage Company. She completed her MFA in Set Design at San Francisco State University in May and is now working as a Set Designer and Scenic Painter in the Bay Area. Most recently she designed and painted the sets for On Golden Pond at Los Altos Stage Co., References to Salvador Dalí Make me Hot at SFSU, As Always: A New Musical at the Eureka Theatre, The Book of Liz at Custom Made Theatre Co. and The Trial of Lucullus at SFSU. Catalina was born in Colombia and came to the Bay Area after finishing her undergraduate studies in Visual Arts in Paris and after completing her MA in Toulouse. Kat Tan (Stage Manager) This is Kat’s first production with Los Altos Stage Company. She was recently the SM for YMTC Berkeley’s Sweeney Todd. Other productions include being the ASM for Les Liaisons Dangereuses for Dragon Theatre in Redwood City, SM for The Flying Karamazov Brothers 40th Anniversary Show at San Jose Repertory Theatre, and SM for Annie at Sunnyvale Community Players. As a former student at SJSU, she studied Theater Arts with an emphasis in Stage Management. She worked on Beauty and The Beast, Mummified Deer, Picasso and the Lapin Agile, A Streetcar Named Desire, The Bacchae, The Laramie Project, and The Crucible and was also in a few productions there as well. She has also worked as a Stage Manager at California’s Great America for 6 years. While not stage managing, Kat still works at Great America doing administrative work. Margaret Toomey (Costume Designer) Margaret works nationally in costume and scenic design. Local costume credits include: Oliver! & Cats (BBBay); It’s a Wonderful Life (Los Altos Stage) and Pericles (Shady Shakespeare). National credits include work at Triad Stage (Greensboro, NC); Dallas Theater Center; Portland Stage Company (Portland, ME); and ArtsWest Playhouse (Seattle). Margaret received her MFA in Scenography from UNC Greensboro and BA in Theatre from Grinnell College in Iowa. Carol Fischer (Lighting Designer) Carol Fischer worked for Bus Barn in the late 1990s as a stage manager and more recently as sound designer for On Golden Pond. She is pleased to be doing a second light design for Los Altos Stage Company after working with the team for Avenue Q. Carol earned her MA at San Jose State, and has been working in the Theatre Dept. of West Valley College since 1995 where she currently teaches, directs, and designs. Her research connecting quantum physics philosophy and theatre theory completed a PhD in Theatre Studies at UCSB in 2010, and she is an active member in the International Society for the Study of Time, reflecting a concept that is serendipitously of much interest in The Fantasticks. Ruth E. Stein/”propEARLYdone” (Props Design/Set Dresser) RuthE has provided props and set dressing design services for most of the theatre companies in the area for the past 25 years. She took her passion for collecting cool old stuff and turned it into a business, when she started providing most of the props for productions in which she was acting or T BA A Y WE S id OPER directing. She and her husband, Dave, enjoy the thrill of the hunt for the most unusual items, such as the penny-farthing bicycle you see in tonight’s production (thanks for finding it, Dave). When not playing props mistress, this retired Wells Fargo Bank Communications Director can be found onstage (see her actor bio), at local estate/yard sales or watering the flowers in her garden. Larry Barrot (Fight Director) Larry received his BA in Theatre from Santa Clara University and he is currently working on completing his thesis for his MA in Theatre from SJSU. Larry has been a Bay Area actor, director and fight director for the past 18 years. Prior to that he was based in New York City where he worked in theatre and independent films. Past productions include Henry V (directed; 2011), Much Ado About Nothing (directed; 2010), Comedy of Errors (directed; 2008), Macbeth (Murderer; 2007), Tempest (Francisco; 2007), Romeo and Juliet (directed; 2006), and Hamlet (Ghost; 2004).
