From our BOARD CHAIR & CEO
Dear Friends,
For 150 years, OhioGuidestone has been committed to caring for children and families. Our
legacy is devoted to caring for individuals in need. During the past fiscal year (July 1, 2012 – June
30, 2013), we served over 20,000 clients. We began pharmacy services for our clients and staff
and expanded our Juvenile Justice and Mentoring Services. We celebrated our first school year
at Stepstone Academy with outstanding success, and added Personal and Family Counseling
Services, in New Philadelphia, Ohio as part of our organization.
We are proud to highlight the great work that we’ve done, the number of people we’ve served
and our exceptional outcomes. But additionally, we are proud to highlight the individual lives that
have improved as a result of our services. Each life we touch is special, each person is important.
We grieve their losses, celebrate their triumphs and encourage them to keep working toward their
goals. In this report you’ll read about personal victories – these are the stories of OhioGuidestone,
and the faces of our success.

Overcoming EDUCATIONAL BARRIERS
OhioGuidestone is committed
to a complete spectrum of community solutions, from treatment
to skill building services, which
address concerns our clients
may currently be facing. It may
also provide opportunities to
improve their family dynamics,
income, security and relationships. Our Workforce 360° programming helps young adults,
like Tyson Rollins* to become
confident in a professional setting and to gain the skills to
improve their personal lives.
Tyson, a 19-year-old former foster child, grew up without a family or a secure environment. As
a result, he had little self worth
and no support system to turn to
when he encountered obstacles
in life. When he began struggling
in school he dropped out, rather

than completing high school.
Without an education or a family, he couldn’t support himself,
emotionally or financially.
When Tyson enrolled in our

learn job skills, but never thought
the program would transform
his future by teaching him life
skills and connecting him with
community resources to help
him develop a sense of security.
After earning his GED through
Youth One Stop, Tyson began a
paid work experience program
with a local automotive company. His strong work ethic and
enthusiasm won the hearts
of his managers and he was
offered a permanent position.

Conquering
ADDICTION
OhioGuidestone offers many types of treatment services, most of which
address mental or behavioral health challenges. However, Personal and
Family Counseling Services (PFCS), a new addition to OhioGuidestone,
provides a variety of services focused on substance abuse problems.
Harbor House Halfway House, a division of PFCS, provides intensive residential treatment for women with substance abuse issues. This unique program, which requires a 120-day stay and 60 days of aftercare, gives clients,
like Deb Campbell* the chance to establish abstinence from any and all
mood-altering drugs and develop an individualized program of recovery.
Deb’s world was spiraling out of control. Her alcohol addiction consumed her life, leaving her without a job or a home, and she didn’t know
where to turn. Then she learned about Harbor House Halfway House.
During her stay, Deb worked with PFCS counselor Star Jones to understand the roots of her addiction. She participated in group and individual
counseling, 12-step meetings, and sober recreational activities. She
learned healthy coping, communication, decision-making and problem
solving skills that allowed her to navigate life without alcohol. “Through
her time at Harbor House, Deb learned how to live in the present and
to take responsibility for her daily life,” says Star. “She gained a support
system to help her through her recovery journey and has begun to live a
responsible, sober, healthy life.”
Today, Deb is employed and feels confident that she will remain strong
and sober. “Before I came to Harbor House, staying drunk was the way to
live, because I did not have to face my problems,” says Deb. “Now I have
such a strong support system. A huge burden has been lifted, and I feel
like I can take on the world. Words cannot express how grateful I am to
PFCS and Harbor House - they helped me get my life back!”

Six Independent Audits Confirm Our Accountability and
Stewardship of Resources
Endowment Growth is Critical to Our Future
This year we added $227,440 in cash to our permanent endowment fund. Earnings
from this carefully managed fund allow us to continue to provide our services,
despite decreasing financial support from government sources for social services.
McGladrey and Pullen LLP completed our overall financial audit, A-133 federal
audit, pension audit and Ohio Department of Job and Family Services agreed
upon procedures. We also had successful audits of our Ohio Department of
Mental Health Services through the Cuyahoga County Addiction and Mental
Health Services Board and of our Workforce Investment Act funding through
the City of Cleveland. Our year end net assets totaled $17,751,813.
Better Business Bureau Seal of Approval
We are proud to be an accredited charity with the Better
Business Bureau for the past six years. We meet all 20 standards for charitable accountability as a part of four overall
criteria, including governance and oversight, measuring
effectiveness, finance and fundraising.
Making the Most of Every Charitable Dollar We Receive
We are committed to being a good fiscal steward. As a result, 87 cents of every
charitable dollar goes directly to our programs. We are grateful for the very
generous annual support received from our donors that provides a significant
part of our agency budget.
