An Automatic, Efficient Approach to Grease Extraction
CaptiveAire’s Self Cleaning Hood System is integrated into our premier canopy style ND-2
and SND-2 hood lines. The Hot Water Wash system automatically cleans the hood plenum
after the cooking is done for the day. Washing the plenum with surfactant (surface-active
agent that reduces the surface tension between the grease and water allowing the water
to dissolve the grease) while the hood is still hot considerably increases the effectiveness
of the cleaning.

Removing Grease at the Source
CaptiveAire’s Captrate Filter line is the best filtration on the market, extracting up to 90
percent of grease above one micron. One benefit of the Captrate Filter Line is reduced
fire hazard and maintenance associated with grease build-up in hood plenums, duct work,
fan assemblies, rooftops and adjacent surfaces. The Captrate Combo Filter uses a multistage grease filtration system to deliver unparalleled efficiency for restaurant hood systems.
The first stage consists of an optimized S-baffle, which is designed to remove and drain
the larger grease particles. The second stage features a packed-bed of porous ceramic
media designed to capture the smaller grease particles associated with commercial
cooking. The Captrate Solo Filters are designed to capture and remove a high percentage
of the total grease particle emissions produced during commercial kitchen cooking
operations. The Solo is a single-stage filter which features a unique S-baffle design in
conjunction with a slotted rear baffle design.

The Economical Solution to Delivering Clean Air
The CaptiveAire Pollution Control Unit (PCU) Series is designed specifically for the removal
of smoke and grease particles from the air stream of commercial kitchen exhaust
systems. When paired with optional odor control, the PCU Series eliminates or reduces
odor to acceptable levels. The PCU is designed for use with a CaptiveAire high efficiency
self-cleaning or baffle ventilator, but may be used with other high efficiency exhaust hoods.
The typical PCU includes a washable steel pre-filter and disposable, high efficiency (MERV 14)
media filter. A HEPA final filter is available for smoke control, and odor control is handled
via an optional 50/50 blend carbon/permanganate module. The PCU Series is ETL-Listed
and complies with UL710 Standards. For ease of installation, the unit may be shipped
in one piece or in sections to facilitate entry and installation. A fire system is available
(mechanical or electric) for internal and duct protection.

Saving Restaurant Operators Both Energy and Money
CaptiveAire’s Energy Management System ( EMS) is a form of “demand ventilation,”
in which exhaust and make-up airflow rates are both adjusted in relation to the cooking
load. A temperature sensor in the hood/exhaust duct collar works with an electronic
controller to modulate exhaust and make-up air fan speeds to save energy. A simple
control panel provides a setting to increase the fans to full speed if required. CaptiveAire’s
EMS meets the requirements of IMC 507.2.1.1, which requires exhaust fans to activate
when cooking appliances are energized. Estimated energy savings, based on air volumes
and idle periods, can range from 5-15% annually.

Easy Installation and Maintenance, With No On-Site Cutting or Welding
CaptiveAire’s Factory-Welded Grease Duct Systems are ETL-Listed to UL Standard 1978
and are ideal for use in kitchen ventilation applications where clearance to combustibles
and temperature retention in the duct is not a factor. The Grease Duct is a single wall construction made from 430 stainless steel. CaptiveAire’s Grease Duct is easy to assemble and
requires no on-site cutting or welding, so kitchen operators avoid unnecessary installation
trouble and expense. Liquid tight grease duct systems are critical to good fire protection.

Energy Efficient Design to Keep Kitchen Staff Comfortable
CaptiveAire offers a variety of dedicated make-up air options, including direct-fired
heating and DX cooling. Tempering dedicated make-up air to temperatures respectively
lower and higher than HVAC settings helps customers save on energy costs. Direct-fired
burners allow flue gases to remain in the make-up air, retain more of the air’s heat, and
heat with more efficiency. CaptiveAire’s direct-fired heaters are ETL-Listed and comply
with ANSI Z83.4a-2001 standards.

Make-Up Air Delivery
CaptiveAire’s Perforated Supply Plenum (PSP) delivers make-up air where it is needed
most while minimizing the amount of air that diffuses into space. The PSP accessory
saves energy because less make-up air is diffused into the kitchen, decreasing the HVAC
load, thus lowering operating costs. Providing up to 90% make-up air, the PSP accessory
evenly distributes make-up air along the length of the hood though the perforated stainless
steel diffuser plates.

Changing the Way Air Moves
CaptiveAire carries a wide breadth of exhaust air solutions to meet every application.
One of those solutions is our Direct-Drive fans, which are an average of 10 percent more
efficient than belt-drive exhaust fans. Direct-drive fans have less friction while operating
because they do not require belts, pulleys, or bearings. This reduction in friction increases
operating efficiency and lowers operating costs by eliminating belt and bearing replacement.
CaptiveAire’s heavy duty, weather proof exhaust fans are constructed with a completely
enclosed drive compartment which protects the fresh-air cooled motor and prolongs its
life. Every unit comes with a standard emergency disconnect switch, and is ETL-Listed
and AMCA-certified. CaptiveAire also carries utility sets (available for general duty,
restaurant duty and high velocity restaurant duty), ceiling and inline fans, square inline
and axial fans.
