C - Health Care Transformation: Future Payment Models and the Risk Capability
Imperative
Brad Benton, CPA, FHFMA, DHG Healthcare, Atlanta, Ga.
Bill Hannah, Dixon Hughes Goodman LLP, Atlanta, Ga.
Employers, payers, and consumers are demanding greater accountability and higher
value for their health care spend. As a result, commercial and governmental payers
are developing new payment models that are increasingly focused on the value of the
care provided not the volume of services provided. We will describe the transformation
that is underway and explore the various payment models being introduced into the
market and explore the current trend in value-based payments designed to drive greater
accountability from providers and the acceleration in risk based payment models.

D1 - Fair Market Value and Commercial Reasonableness:
Assessing Health Care Deals in a Dynamic Market
Gregory D. Anderson, CPA/ABV, CVA, HORNE LLP, Hattiesburg, Miss.
Today’s transactions and contractual arrangements among health care providers are made
up of increasingly sophisticated, multi-faceted structures, which have evolved with reforms
in reimbursement and delivery systems, transformation in the marketplace, and surges in
enforcement activity. The complexity of these financial relationships creates additional regulatory
compliance challenges. Discussion will focus on fair market value and commercial reasonableness
issues arising out of referring provider transactions and contractual relationships, with an
examination of business and compensation valuation theory and methodology.
D2 - I Want to Be a Physician, Not an Auditor: The Reality of Fraud in a Physician Practice (A&A)
Sarah M. Dekutowski, CPA, Draffin & Tucker, LLP
A physician practice is very vulnerable to fraud with its small staff, little to no segregation
of duties, and a physician owner who generally want to focus on patients, not precautions.
Physicians are often reluctant to report fraud, and the dishonest employee goes from practice
to practice, continuing to take advantage of the situation. Review common fraud schemes and
methods for detection and prevention of fraud in a physician practice. Real-life case examples
and “lessons learned” will be discussed.
2:15 - 3:30 p.m.
E1 - A&A Update (A&A)
Denise Marbach, PricewaterhouseCoopers, Atlanta, Ga
Julie Edmunds Smith, PricewaterhouseCoopers, Atlanta, Ga.
Brent Stolle, PricewaterhouseCoopers, Atlanta, Ga.
Receive technical updates on professional, standard-setting and regulatory developments
that impact health care organizations that includes discussion of recent accounting and
reporting developments impacting health care organizations including, but not limited to,
financial reporting project, revenue recognition and leases, and financial instruments among
other technical areas.
E2 - What You Want to Know About Clinical Integration and More (A&A)
Josh M. Berlin, J.D., DHG Healthcare, Atlanta, Ga.
Christopher M. Kane, DHG Healthcare, Atlanta, Ga.
With more organizations moving towards a clinically integrated environment to meet the
evolving needs of our industry, a common understanding of becoming a successful patientcentric, value-driven clinical enterprise is required. This session will establish a collective
understanding of today’s dynamic industry challenges, how an organization understands
its role across those challenges, and what essential elements must exist to achieve a much
sought after level of long-term sustainability across the full continuum of care delivery.
3:40 - 4:30 p.m.
F1 - ACA: Impact on Physicians as Employers
Angus A. McRae, CEBS, Angus McRae, Norcross, Ga.
The law impacts physician practices from both the employee benefits side of the business
as well as from the patient care and revenue side. We will look at how the law is unique
to physician practices, and discuss current, topical issues surrounding the law, including
prohibition of tax favored reimbursement of individual health insurance premiums, the everevolving play or pay rules, and how King v. Burwell may impact premium subsidies.
F2 - Three Ps to Board Presentations and Negotiations
Linda H. Yates, The Image Energizer, Highland Beach, Fla.
