Delegations from National University of Technology This meeting is a continuation of co-operation in term of knowledge research and development that has been done by RDI and ITENAS. So now RDI has partnered with three major universities in Bandung (ITENAS, UTama, and UNPAD). It is expected that this partnership will provide many benefits, especially for the development of knowledge and research in the future of both institutions. ew RDI’s network has been established. On 8th April 2015 in Bandung, a meeting was held for MoU signatory between the Environmental Engineering Department of National University of Technology (ITENAS) and Resilience Development Initiative (RDI). 1 #20: Disaster Risk Financing by Muneta Yokomatsu Professor of Kyoto University On March 28th, 2015, an invited lecture by Prof. Muneta Yokomatsu (Kyoto University) with theme “Disaster Risk Financing” was held at Widyatama University. This lecture was organized by RDI, cooperates with Widyatama University and Bandung Institue of Technology. This lecture discussed about risk management, especially the risk control and financing. Risk control is widely discussed in various disaster relief efforts, but the discussion of financial risk is still very limited. Disaster management has accommodated how the concept of risk sharing in enhancing economic security community within the scope of risk experienced by the public finance. One concept for reducing disaster risk financing is insurance. Insurance allows better protection schemes in the community of disaster risk. Furthermore, Prof. Muneta Yokomatsu also gave explanation on how Catastrophe Bond has worked effectively in protecting society from the impact of disasters, especially earthquakes and tsunamis, particularly in Japan. The lecture also gave an overview of how the opportunities of applying agricultural insurance schemes that can protect people from the economic devastation caused by natural disasters. Moreover, the lecture also provided information on how the scheme and design of financial policies applied. From the lecturer’s explanation, it is important to notice that development of the financial system by using insurance protection is facing a major challenge on the moral of the community, especially related to public confidence in the insurance scheme. #19: Cultural Heritage Focus on Disaster Risk Management: Why? #18: Water Conservation in Indonesia Perspective On February 28th, 2015, Dr. Saut Sagala (RDI Senior Fellow) explained the importance to strengthen risk management for cultural heritage. On January 7th, 2015, Dr. Sapari Dwi Hadian (RDI Fellow), discussed about groundwater management in Mt. Salak and Mt. Manglayang. 2 RDI would like to announce and to congratulate that RDI researchers, Dodon Yamin and Efraim Sitinjak for hold their Master Degree and RDI Fellow, Aminu Haruna Isa for hold his Doctoral. On January, 29th 2015, lively discussion between RDI and Ibu Foundation happened, hopefully future research about Mount Sinabung and Mount Kelud can be accomplished. During February until May 2015, RDI was appointed by Plan International - Indonesia to carry out the Mid Term Review of their programs. The program have been implemented in Indonesia based on Country Strategic Plan for fiscal year 2013-2017. There are 5 main sectors reviewed by RDI, including Early Childhood Care and Development (ECCD); Water, Sanitation, and Health (WASH); Youth Economic Empowerment (YEE); Disaster Risk Management (DRM); as well as the Child Protection and Participation (CPP). We would welcome our new fellow, Mrs. Adzani Ameridyani and our new interns: Reksy Indra Rakasiwie Wafa Syafa Syahbid Hafidz Wibisono All programs are implemented by Plan Indonesia on 7 Program Unit, including Rembang, Grobogan, Kefamenanu, Soe, Nagekeo, Sikka, and Lembata. In addition RDI also commissioned to conduct Risk Assessment related to the Plan to phase out program in Rembang, as well as the merger program between Kefamenanu with Soe, and also Sikka with Nagekeo. During this review, RDI also had conducted field visits to Rembang, Nagekeo, Kefamenanu, Soe, and Kupang.
