Adams Ricci Farmers Market
is Now Open
The Adams Ricci Farmers Market has returned to Adams Ricci Park
for a second season. The market brings together local producers and
growers within 50 miles to provide the community with access to fresh,
local, food choices. The market is at its largest this year with diverse group of vendors
providing fruit and vegetables (Filey’s Pride, Rex Farms, Three Springs
Fruit Farm, Swartz’s Pumpkin Patch), baked goods (Jo’s Bakery, Sunshine Bakery, Waterwheel Tea), wine and cider (Olivero’s Vineyard,
Big Hill Ciderworks), herbal teas and extracts (Waterwheel Tea), native
plants and trees (Perennial Gardens Nursery), dairy and meat (Gettysburg Creamery, Smithfield Farms), lavender and fresh flowers (Ridge
Farm Lavender), prepared foods (Mountain Laurel Catering), sauces
(Torchbearers), and other seasonal vendors (The Flower Ladies, Celtic
Knot Alpacas, Fudge-o-lutely, Kalpana’s Fine Soaps).

National Night Out – August 2nd
The Township Police Department will hold the 3rd Annual National Night Out on Tuesday,
August 2nd from 6pm-8pm at Adams Ricci Park.. The event will feature a police K9 demonstration, music by HOT 93.5, static displays of emergency service vehicles, games and raffle prizes for
children and adults and free food and drinks, while supplies last. There will also be businesses and
community groups present with giveaways. This event is free for the entire family and will be held

EAST PENNSBORO AREA SCHOOL DISTRICT PROPERTY TAX BILLS
These bills are slated to be mailed by a vendor contracted by the East Pennsboro
School District. IF YOU DO NOT RECEIVE YOUR TAX BILL BY MID JULY, PLEASE
CALL THE TAX OFFICE. WE HAVE NO WAY OF KNOWING YOU HAVE NOT RECEIVED YOUR BILL UNLESS YOU LET US KNOW.
COUNTY/MUNICIPAL PROPERTY AND PER CAPITA TAXES
If you haven’t already done so, please be sure to pay your County/Municipal
Property and/or Per Capita Taxes. The final day to pay these bills this year is earlier
than previous years.
FINAL DAY TO PAY TAXES FOR 2016
The final day to pay taxes with a Personal Check for the 2016 year is December
14th. After December 14th, payment must be made in the form of a Bank check,
money order or certified funds. Per Cumberland County instruction, no payments
will be accepted after December 31. This means all payments must be in the tax office
by December 31, 2016. The tax office will be closed December 16th through January
2nd. Payments made between December 16th and December 31st must be mailed
prior to December 31st or placed in the drop box located outside the Township Municipal Building. All payments received after December 31st will be returned.
By law, all unpaid property tax bills will be turned over to the Cumberland
County Tax Claim Office for collection after December 31, 2016.
ADDRESS CORRECTIONS
Address corrections to property tax bills must be done in writing. Corrections
may be made to your bill by completing the space provided on the back of the tax bill.
BILL PAYER CHECKS
It is imperative that the BILL NUMBER appear on the bill payer check when used
to pay your property and/or per capita tax bill. The bill number changes each year.
Please check your bill carefully and be sure that you have supplied the correct information. We receive many checks with wrong bill numbers and information. Providing us a wrong bill number could result in your payment being posted incorrectly.

Holiday Trash Collection
Trash and recyclables will be collected a day late the week of July 4 and September 5 because of the July 4th & Labor Day holiday. Please consult the Penn
Waste website www.pennwaste.com for more information on recycling.
Sewer/Sanitation News
In order to reduce errors and process payments in a timely manner, residents
are reminded that if they pay their sewer and trash bill automatically through their
financial institution to be sure to list the account number and the service address of
the account they are paying. Checks can be made payable to East Pennsboro Township.
For residents who prefer to bring payments to the Administration office, there is
an after-hours drop box at the bottom of the stairs of the Township Building for your
convenience.

Storm Water Best Management
Practices Series
Conodoguinet Water Shed Association is supporting the MS4
Storm Water Best Management Practices that is hosted by GreenCause and the Camp Hill Environmental Club. A FREE fun educational series of STORM WATER Best Management Practice classes will be
taught by regional experts. Class will be held at the Camp Hill Borough
Building (2145 Walnut Street) on the 1st Tuesday of the month from
7:00-8:30 pm. Occasionally, “educational field trips” will be scheduled
on noted Saturday mornings.

Keep Grass Clippings Out of the Street
When mowing your lawn, make certain that you do not blow grass
clippings into the street and do not use a hose to wash them into the
street or storm drains.
Grass clippings that are blown into the street can block storm
drains or flow down to the Susquehanna River. Grass clippings contain nitrogen and phosphorous, which cause unwanted and uncontrolled growth of algae and aquatic weeds in waterways.
If you bag your grass clippings you’re not doing the environment
or your back any favors. Leave the grass clippings on the ground for a
greener, healthier yard, especially if your mower has a mulching blade.
Grass clippings are a natural fertilizer. Don’t waste money on
expensive lawn fertilizers. You can reduce yard work and yard waste
while saving water (grass clippings are 85 percent water).
It is best to mow frequently so that large amounts of leaf and grass
residue don’t remain on the surface of the turf.
Retirement Congratulations to Skip Magaro
Raymond “Skip” Magaro retired as our Parks and Recreation Foreman
after 38 years. Skip started working for the township as a mechanic, but
eventually found his love of nature, fishing and recreation to be what he enjoyed most and began working in the parks department. Skip has been the
go to for all our events at the park insuring the grounds are kept prestine,
trees planted and events going smoothly! His knowledge and expertise will
be hard to replace and we wish him luck on the river fishing early mornings
and nights! Thanks for all your hard work!
Imagination Station Playground
Replacement Committee
The Township Recreation Board is excited to be seeking 5-10 residents
to join us for the next year to plan the replacement of the Imagination Station. The Imagination Station is 20 years old in May 2017 and due to the aging structure we are looking toward the future. The Township has submitted
a grant application to Department of Conservation and Natural Resources
and plan to work through the details of the project with a committee. If you
are interested in helping us rejuvenate the Imagination Station, please call
the Recreation Department at 732-0711 option 3.

Geocaching is a real-world, outdoor treasure hunting game using
GPS-enabled devices. Participants navigate to a specific set of GPS coordinates and then attempt to find the geocache (container) hidden at that
location. This program will teach all ages how to use the GPS Unit, find
and log caches and how to discover where to find caches! This is a great
family program that can be done all across the world! To discover more

Upon arrival in NYC we will start with a Picnic Lunch from Perfect Picnic in the park. After lunch enjoy a stroll through Central
Park with a guided tour learning about the architects Olmstead and

Yard Waste Guidelines
Penn Waste, the Township’s trash/recyclables collector, will collect yard waste through October. An unlimited
number of bags or bundles may be placed at the curb before 6 a.m. on the first Saturday monthly (Dates are July 2,
August 6 September 3 and October 1). For more information, call Penn Waste at 1-866-575-8720, or online at www.
pennwaste.com.
Yard waste includes tree trimmings, shrubbery and any other organic landscape vegetation, except grass clippings and tree stumps. Fruits and vegetables, dirt, stones, all building material and rail road ties will NOT be collected.
The yard waste should be placed in a biodegradable brown paper bag or be tied with twine in easy-to-handle
bundles. Bundles may be no longer than four feet and not weigh more than 30 pounds each. Branches may not
exceed six inches in diameter.
The Township Yard Waste Facility on South Humer Street is open from 7 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Monday through
Friday, and the third Saturday of the month from 7 -10 am, April through October for residential drop-off items.
Residents must show a valid driver’s license for proof of Township residency. The facility is for yard waste that
is not collected curbside. Please go to the County’s website, www.ccpa.net for disposal of household hazardous
waste.

Recognizing
Eagle Scout
Ryan Marshall received
the Boy Scouts of America’s
highest rank, the Eagle Scout
Award, on April 11. For his
Eagle project, Ryan identified
more than 60 trees at AdamsRicci Community Park in Enola, Pennsylvania, and designed
40 signs with their tree name,
Latin name, a QR code, and a
few facts about the species. Users can scan the QR codes with
their smartphone to go to the East Pennsboro Township Recreation
website and learn additional information about the trees.
They also can see an interactive ArcGIS map of the trees that
Ryan identified. He finished installing the green identification signs
at Adams-Ricci Park on April 24.
Ryan will be recognized at his Eagle Scout Court of Honor later
this summer and at the Boy Scouts of America New Birth of Freedom Council Eagle Scout Recognition Dinner in November.

The Healthy Kids Running Series is a five week running program in
the spring and fall for kids from Pre-K to 8th grade. Each Race Series takes
place once a week and offers age appropriate running events including the
50 yard dash, the 1/4 mile, the 1/2 mile and the one mile run. Kids compete
each week of the Series for a chance to earn points and at the end of the
Series the top boy and girl with the most points in their respective age division receive a trophy. It doesn’t matter how fast or slow you run because all
participants receive a medal and gift bag for their achievements courtesy of
our sponsors! Cost is $10/race or $35/series (includes T-shirt).

Eagle Scout Service Projects that have benefited our community
Matthew Ehgartner, BSA Troop 51, earned his Eagle rank in September 2015. Matthew relocated the 1899 church bell and cornerstone and built a brick monument to display it at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Camp Hill, PA.
Ryan Marshall, BSA Troop 51, earned his Eagle rank in April 2016.
Ryan identified 60 trees, created a web page on the EP Township
website, and installed 37 tree identification sign posts at Adams
Ricci Park in Enola, PA.
Scott Mundis, BSA Troop 51, earned his Eagle rank in January
2014. Scott revitalized the main entrance, installed a communication board with trail map, cleared the half-mile walking trail, and
built a 34-foot walking bridge at the Pine Hill Arboretum in Enola,
PA.
Caleb Shiery, BSA Troop 89, earned his Eagle rank in February
2015. Caleb made outdoor improvements to Chapel Hill United
Church of Christ in Camp Hill. He rebuilt a shed, repaired a brick
flower bed and performed other necessary landscaping.
Collyn Dardick, BSA Troop 51, earned his Eagle rank in October
2015. Collyn designed, built and installed a replacement of the 5’
x 5’ street sign and improved the surrounding landscaping for St.
James Presbyterian Church in Mechanicsburg, PA.
Caleb Holley, BSA Troop 89, earned his Eagle rank in December
2013. Caleb organized and built a Memorial to Fallen Firefighters/
EMS in Cumberland County in Carlisle, PA.
Meals on Wheels Seeks Aid

Bocce Ball Tournament
Friends of Recreation at East Pennsboro Parks held the second
annual bocce ball tournament on May 14 at the Adams Ricci Park
bocce ball courts. Despite the rains that bracketed the event, the
games were played. Thanks to all who participated and supported

Summer Soccer Camp
EPLW and EPPU are teaming up with the Central Penn College
Coaches and Players to offer a summer soccer camp the week of July 11th
(7/11 – 7/15) from 6pm - 8pm. The camp is open to all players ages 5-14

The Team Up For Turf committee is currently raising funds for a new
Turf Field at the High School Stadium for the start of the Fall 2017 sports
season! This field improvement (using NO Tax Payer
Dollars) will help all outdoor
sports, our award-winning
marching band program,
our physical education
programs, as well as countless other organizations
like EPYAL. The committee
working to replace the grass field is stepping up its campaigning efforts by
reaching out to the general EP community, our Alumni, and our families.
Composed of three parents, community members, two board of directors, and district associates, the committee needs to raise $1.95 million for the total project, which would include a new field at the Stadium, a new Panther Club Box with spectator suites and space for media/
coaches, and an additional artificial-turf stadium at the current site of the
field hockey field (Panther Parkway).
We currently have several partnership opportunities including
Naming Rights Sponsors and our Buy-A-Brick Program. The EP Education Foundation is a 501(c)(3) organization and as such, your contribution is Tax Deductible. This is a real opportunity to build a legacy for East
Pennsboro Township, put us on a level playing field with area schools,

The Cumberland County Office of Aging & Community Services and the Cumberland County Senior Centers are distributing the
Farmers Market Nutrition Program checks. Eligible seniors may pick
up the checks at the Mary Schaner Adult Center on Friday mornings
between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. When picking up the
FMNP checks, recipients must show proof of residence and age. Proof
of income is a “self-declaration.” If an eligible senior is unable to pick
up their own checks, they may have an authorized person or proxy,
pick up the checks for them, provided the senior completes and signs
the official proxy form. Eligible seniors receive four $5.oo checks for
a total benefit of $20.00 for a one time disbursement during the program year.
The purpose of the FMNP, administered by the PA Department of
Agriculture, is to provide seniors with resources in the form of fresh,
nutritious, fruits and vegetables, grown in PA and sold at local farmers
markets. The PA Department of Agriculture wants to promote healthy
eating and expand the awareness and use of farmers markets.
Household income guidelines for the FMNP are as follows:

County Commissioners recognition on June 1st at the BOC meeting
East Pennsboro Township recognize the following individuals for their actions that occurred before, during and after Winter Storm Jonas.
These three gentlemen for maintaining open streets during the worst of
conditions:

These two gentlemen for having the foresight to preplan and ramp up
the opening and continuous running the East Pennsboro Emergency Operations Center (EOC) and coordinating the use of Township snow removal assets to aid residents for medical assists calls:

times during the process and having to be dug out by Township snow removal crews.
Keep Ground Water From Entering Sewer Lines
Township officials are reminding residents that Township regulations prohibit the discharge of any roof, ground or surface water into any
sanitary sewer, directly or indirectly. The regulations also prohibit the connection of a pipe into a sewer line carrying excessively hot water,
which may be detrimental to a sewer or to operation of the sewer system.
When a basement floor drain is connected to the sanitary sewer system, there is a potential for a backup of raw sewage into the home if
sewer lines become clogged. Any such connection of a drain to the sewer system violates regulations and must be disconnected.
Water from sump pumps or rain gutters that goes into the sewer system causes increased flows to the wastewater treatment plant, especially during heavy storms. The water must be chemically treated, the same as raw sewage, resulting in an increase in the amount of chemicals
used and ultimately an increase in cost.

Scavenger Hunt Winners
Due to the timing of the township newsletters we
were unable to enter the Scavenger Hunt winners from
the Easter Holiday events on March 18th. We held our 2nd
Annual Scavenger Hunt for the six years old and up kids
and their families. We had 100 participants who ran all
over Adams Ricci Park looking for clues and locations. We
had 3 teams who were first to find all the clues and they are
listed below. Congratulations to those winners and all the
participants that joined us for a great day of activity in the
PARK!
