member recruitment, officer training, or anything else you

Highlights for the 2015-2016 Year:

RACE TO MEMBERSHIP This membership campaign will have
members testing the limits to recruit members. The goal? Race to be the
chapter with the biggest membership increase in the state. Winners will
receive a trophy and will be crowned champions of the Race to Membership at
the State Leadership Conference (SLC).
 LEADERSHIP RALLY This fun and educational experience will be
taking place in December at Las Vegas, Reno, and Elko!
 STATE LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE We will end our FCCLA year
at the Grand Sierra Resort in Reno, Nevada, where we hope to see you, your
chapter, and your competitive event!

complimentary training, which focuses on establishing a strong FCCLA foundation in

Nevada FCCLA State Campaigns
State Theme: “Launching into a
Brighter Future”
Each year the State Officer team selects a
state theme to represent the school year.
This year members have the opportunity to
blast into a brighter future during the 20152016 FCCLA experience. The theme,
Launching into a Brighter Future, empowers students to “blast off” on their leadership
journey by leading others, believing in themselves, and landing with a big bang! The
logo for Launching into a Brighter Future will be available on the Nevada FCCLA
website, www.nevadafccla.org
State Membership Campaign: “Race to Membership” [New]
This year’s membership campaign will rocket your membership AND chapter
involvement! Your mission, should you choose to accept it, will be to increase your
membership by as much as you can by February 1, 2016.
 The percentage increase between your 2015-16 members and your 2014-15
members will be determined.
 During the closing session at SLC, the chapter with the highest percentage of
membership increase will receive an amazing traveling trophy to display
with pride at their school.
 The trophy will remain at the winner’s school until the 2017 SLC when it will
be passed onto the 2017 winner.
Nevada State Officers have set a membership goal of 500 members. We encourage
you to boost your chapter membership as you climb onboard the “Race to
Membership!”

State Outreach Project: Think Kindness
The Nevada FCCLA State Officers have chosen Think Kindness as
the Nevada Outreach Project for 2015-16.
Think Kindness sparks kindness movements in schools and
communities across the United States. They have gathered a team
of dynamic and inspirational speakers and thought leaders to
create programs that not just talk about being kind, but inspire
people to take action.
Each year they travel the country on a national “15 Days of
Kindness” school tour where they challenge schools to change the
world, in just 15 days! It’s more than just a one-hour presentation,
it is a 15-day challenge that calls students to action.
Nevada FCCLA will announce the date(s) we will focus on Think
Kindness! More details will be emailed to each chapter adviser.

FCCLA National Campaigns
NATIONAL OUTREACH PROJECT: Lead2Feed
The Lead2Feed student leadership program is the
nation’s leading and fastest growing free service
learning program, attracting more than a million
students in 3,500 schools across all 50 states.
Aligned to standards and 21st century skills,
Lead2Feed is making a huge difference in
participants’ lives and the programs they create.
This free service learning program nurtures a new generation of leaders while
working to end local and global hunger. Each year, student teams compete for a
chance to win over $275,000 in charity grants and $150,000 in technology grants for
schools. The best part is that the work of your chapter and any prizes benefit your
community.
Be a part of the Lead2Feed movement by completing the lessons and a service project
in your community. Based on the leadership principles from the book, Taking People
with You, by David Novak, Executive Chairman of Yum! Brands’, Lead2Feed gives
students the opportunity to lead, create and implement team projects that alleviate
hunger in their communities.

NATIONAL MEMBERSHIP CAMPAIGN: Go for the Red!
In addition to the state membership campaign, National FCCLA is instituting the Go
for the Red! Campaign for the 2015-2016 school year. Members will have the
opportunity to Recruit! Retain! and Recognize! Members will be able to showcase
their recruiting skills on the individual and chapter levels. Look for your Go for the
Red materials to arrive in your school’s mailbox and online on the National Web site!

NATIONAL LEADERSHIP HONOR ROLL
Returning for the 2015-2016 year is the National Leadership Honor Roll
which recognizes FCCLA members who achieve academic, leadership, and
career success.
To be recognized for the National Leadership Honor Roll, members need to
achieve the following:




3.5 GPA
Be a current FCCLA Member [registered online by February 1]
Complete a professional profile in LinkedIn
Provide a brief testimonial on how FCCLA has positively prepared the
member for college, career and life success
Members who achieve National Leadership Honor Roll distinction will receive
recognition at the SLC. Honorees will also receive a certificate and lapel pin to
commemorate their achievement.

Nevada PEP Events
PEP Events (Proficiency Event Programs) are competitive events specially designed
for Nevada FCCLA members. Events are held only at the State Leadership Conference.
Updates will be available on the Nevada FCCLA Web site.
FCCLA Competitive Events
National FCCLA offers various Competitive Events to offer
students the opportunities to advance their career and college
readiness skills.
STAR (Students Taking Action with Recognition)
STAR Events recognize members for proficiency and achievement in chapter and
individual projects, leadership skills, and career preparation. STAR Events offer
individual skill development and application of learning through cooperative,
individualized, and competitive activities.
2015-2016 Competitive Events Guide
The 2015-2016 Competitive Events Guide will be available on the National FCCLA
site. Please review the guidelines carefully with your students as you prepare for
competition.
STAR Event Demonstration Videos
STAR Events Demonstration videos filmed during the 2014 National Leadership
Conference are available through the National FCCLA YouTube and SchoolTube
channels.

Membership
Since 1945, students and their advisers have focused on bettering their families,
careers, and communities by taking part in FCCLA. This year’s National FCCLA goal
is to increase membership by 7 percent.
This year Nevada FCCLA State Officers invite you to blast off with them as they launch
“Race to Membership!” Increasing membership is a top priority for this year. They
are encouraging members to orbit their school to eclipse our membership goal and
spread the word about this amazing organization and help others take part in the
benefits FCCLA has to offer.
Chapter Membership
All chapters are required to register 12 members on the affiliation roster. Those
chapters that do not have 12 members registered will not be recognized as active
chapters and will not be allowed to participate in STAR Events or Leadership
Conferences.
Curriculum Fee and Payment
National FCCLA affiliation is $9 per member and Nevada FCCLA affiliation is $6 per
member, for a total of $15 per member. The affiliation dues provide access to the
FCCLA national magazine Teen Times, National Programs, Leadership Conferences,
STAR competitive events, membership cards, and exclusive membership promotions.
Payments must be received at the National Office for chapters to be considered an
active chapter (POs are not payment!).

There are some updates to the system for the 2015-2016 school year and national
FCCLA has developed a tutorial video to walk chapter advisers through these new
processes.

Please be sure to watch the video before affiliating to become familiar with the new
processes of graduating students and editing existing students in a bulk
format. There is also an update to the process of collecting parental consent forms
for students under the age of 13.

Membership
National FCCLA Membership Categories
Secondary
Secondary membership is available to any high school student that has taken or is
currently enrolled in a Family and Consumer Sciences course or related course.
Postsecondary
National FCCLA is offering a postsecondary membership to collegiate FCCLA
members or those over the age of 18 that are furthering education at a Career
Technical Academy or any higher education institute.
Nevada FCCLA is one of the first in the nation to pilot this program. National affiliation
is $15 and State affiliation is $5, for a total of $20 per member. Members will be able
to compete in STAR Events.

Alumni & Associates
Any former member that is no longer in a secondary or postsecondary program is
encouraged to join as an Alumni member! Alumni members have the rights and
privileges of active members except the right to vote, hold office, and compete in STAR
Events. Visit www.fcclaalumni.org for information on joining the alumni for FHA, FHA
HERO and FCCLA.
Associate members are friends of FCCLA that were never active members in a
secondary or postsecondary program.
Honorary
Honorary membership is awarded to individuals who have made great contributions
to Nevada FCCLA and the Family and Consumer Sciences Education field.
Nominations are to be submitted to the Nevada FCCLA Board of Directors and a
qualified recipient will be chosen. These members are lifetime members and do not
pay dues.

State & National Meeting Dress Policy
Nevada FCCLA’s Board of Directors adopted the National mandatory dress policy that
was subsequently implemented at the 2012 National Leadership Conference. It is
important that as a national organization our members convey the positive and
professional image of FCCLA.
Attendees at state and national meetings are required to adhere to the mandatory
dress policy listed below. This policy applies to all state and national meetings for
students, advisers, and guests in attendance. Advisers are responsible for enforcing
the dress policy with their students. Delegates and guests not adhering to the dress
policy will not be admitted into sessions.
MANDATORY ATTIRE FOR: GENERAL SESSIONS | BUSINESS SESSION | EXHIBITS |

The FCCLA official blazer is always appropriate and strongly encouraged, although
not required (unless otherwise noted).

• Black or khaki skirts – no shorter than 2 inches above the knee
• Dress shoes or sandals
