Twenty years ago, the City of Winnipeg established the Access Advisory Committee as a way to recommend improvements to the way our public spaces and buildings are designed, so more people can enjoy the things Winnipeg has to offer. The City is proud to sponsor the Access Awards since 2002. I would like to thank all of the architects, designers, engineers, and owners who have worked hard to create inspiring spaces that employ principles of universal design to improve the accessibility of buildings and public spaces for people of all ages and abilities. You help create safer, more comfortable spaces that are not only beautiful and functional – it also makes our City more inclusive, welcoming, and enjoyable for everyone. On behalf of the citizens of Winnipeg and my esteemed colleagues on City Council, I extend congratulations to all the nominees and winners, and thanks for your passion and hard work. Warm regards, Sam Katz MAYOR Greetings from our Chairperson Ross Eadie, City Councillor, Chairperson It is with pride that leads me to congratulate all the nominees for the 2014 Access Awards. When the Access Advisory Committee started in 1994 who knew we would be partnering with the professionals working in the built environment and in service delivery. Great strides have been made due to the partnerships you have made in providing access for all. Thank you!
