This is truly how we feel here at your JCC. In the 16 years since we opened the
doors, so many special things have taken place. The passion that the Board of
Directors and JCC Staff have for this Center is amazing to see. It is because of
this passion that your JCC is the very special place it is to so many people in our
community.
From our preschool (where else do Toddlers make falafel?!) to camp (584 to be
exact in 2015!), our JCC kids are loved by the staff members who teach them, have
fun and laugh with them, and help them “grow”. There is something special
about this place.
When we walk through the hallways and see a group of seniors engaged in an
activity and enjoying the social interaction, we know there is something special
about this place.
When eight JCC volunteers dance their hearts out for your JCC…there is
something special about this place.
We want our membership and the community to know about all the special
things that go on here at the JCC, and what it takes for that “special” to become
reality. Each year the JCC awards $210,000 to those less fortunate in our
community so that they can participate in much needed programs and services.
Membership dues alone do not sustain this center…we rely greatly on the
generosity of our donors.
We need your help! You will soon be receiving a mailing asking you to
help the people who live in our community by making a donation to our Annual
Campaign. Please consider this an opportunity to pass along the good fortune
you have in your life.
Your heart will be warmed knowing that you have made a difference ...there is
something TRULY special about this place.
We wish you and your family Shanah Tovah!

Rosh Hashanah
Sunday, Sept. 13 - Tuesday, Sept. 15
Rosh Hashana, the Jewish New Year, begins at sundown on
Sunday, September 13 and ends on Tuesday, September
15. This holiday celebrates the beginning of the Jewish
calendar, and it is customary to eat apples and honey
and honey cake for a sweet year. The holiday is a time
to reflect on the past year and look ahead to the coming
year, as we listen to the shofar and celebrate the creation
of the world.
Yom Kippur
Tuesday, Sept. 22 - Wednesday, Sept. 23
Yom Kippur will begin at sundown on Tuesday, September
22 and ends Wednesday, September 23. Yom Kippur
begins 10 days after Rosh Hashanah and the 10 days are
called the “days of awe”. On Yom Kippur we fast to atone
for our sins. The JCC wishes everyone a safe and easy
fast. May your name be inscribed in the Book of Life.
Sukkot
Sunday, Sept. 27 - Sunday, Oct. 4
Sukkot begins at sundown on Sunday, September 27
and ends on Sunday, October 4. Sukkot is one of three
pilgrimage festivals when Jews traveled to the Temple
of Jerusalem to offer sacrifices. At Sukkot we celebrate
the harvest, and it is considered a mitzvah to eat and
sleep in the Sukkah, a three-sided dwelling. The roof is
constructed of branches so you can see the stars. Many
people decorate their Sukkahs with pictures and fake
fruit, and invite friends and families to enjoy a meal in
their Sukkah.
Shemini Atzeret &
Simchat Torah
Shemini Atzeret: Oct. 5 / Simchat Torah, Oct. 6
(22-23 Tishrei): Demonstrates G-d’s love of the Jewish
people, and the celebration by the Jewish people of the
completion of the reading of the Torah.

with their special talents or join in our celebrations.
Our Philosophy
Our thoughtfully prepared learning environments reflect
the children’s interests and challenge mastery of skills.
Our rooms are set up in learning centers that allow selfdirected, small group play. Additionally, teachers plan
guided learning experiences that develop skill building
and comprehension. A love of learning flourishes in an
inviting setting that is safe, nurturing and stimulating.
We have developed reassuring routines that promote the
development of social, emotional and physical skills.

Our Curriculum
We use Creative Curriculum which is one of the
developmentally appropriate and research based
curriculums recommended by the New Jersey Department
of Education and is aligned with the New Jersey Teaching
and Learning Standards.
Our state certified and licensed teachers plan and
develop a language rich environment that promotes
each child’s intellectual, social, physical and emotional
growth. Daily schedules include active and quiet times,
gross and fine motor activities. Our children play in
our beautiful, fenced outdoor playground, as weather
permits. Through project learning, children explore their
interests. Children are surrounded by books, literacy
and exposure to the alphabet to prepare them for
reading proficiency. Manipulatives and games reinforce
number ability and concepts. Fine motor skills are built
through hands on activities and writing. Centers include:

our fantastic facility. No matter which program you or
your child is involved in, you can be assured that you

Bubble/Outdoor Pool
About Our Pools
Indoor Pool
Our Bubble pool is a 5 lane, 33 yard competitive-style pool.
This pool is primarily utilized by our swim team, the JCC
Bridgewater Tide, from mid-September to mid-May. The
bubble structure is taken down for the summer for our
Summer Swim Club. The pool features an intermediate
pool which ranges from 1-3 feet, the main pool 3-6 feet
with slide, and two kiddie pools that are one foot deep.
The pool is kept at 82 degrees year round. The Bubble/
outdoor pool also has a commercial salt sanitization
system and uses UV technology to maintain the highest
standards of water chemistry.
The Indoor Pool is a 5 lane, 25 yard (75’) competitivestyle pool. This pool is open year round. The depth in
the zero access area of the pool goes from zero to 4 feet,
and the main part of the pool goes to 6 feet in depth.
Our indoor pool is the only pool in the area running on a
salt sanitization system. Feel the difference! Our indoor
pool also uses UV technology to maintain the highest
standards of water chemistry. The water temperature is
maintained at a relaxing 84 degrees. Lessons are held in
our indoor pool year round.

Group Swim Lessons
6 Months - 5 Years
Parent and Child Aquatics (6 months - 3 years)
Parents and children learn together to increase a child’s
comfort level in the water and build a foundation
of basic skills, such as arm and leg movements and
breath control. The three levels are fun-filled and help
introduce water safety concepts, encouraging a healthy
recreational habit that your entire family can enjoy.
• Aquatots I (Parent/Child Level 1)
• Aquatots II (Parent/Child Level 2)
• Little Starfish (Parent/Child Level 3)
Preschool Aquatics (approx. 3 to 5 years old)
Throughout the four levels, preschool-age children are
taught basic aquatic safety and swimming skills, all the
while increasing their comfort level in and around the
water. Skills are age-appropriate, helping children achieve
success on a regular basis and enjoy social interactions
with other children. As in all Swimming and Water Safety
courses, your child will always know that it’s safety first.
• Starfish (Preschool Level 1)
• Seaponies (Preschool Level 2)
• Dolphins (Preschool Level 3)
• Advanced Dolphins (Preschool Level 4)
Learn to Swim
6 Years - Teens
Designed to help participants achieve maximum success,
Learn-to-Swim courses are based on a logical, six-level

abilities develop their water safety, survival and swim skills.
• Level 1—Introduction to Water Skills
• Level 2—Fundamental Aquatic Skills
• Level 3—Stroke Development
• Level 4—Stroke Improvement
• Level 5—Stroke Refinement
• Level 6—Swimming and Skill Proficiency
• Adventures in Aquatics (ages 10-14 years)

Cindy Tseng- JFIT Warrior
Nearly every day you can see Cindy Tseng participating in
one of our 72 Group Fitness Classes, or in our JFIT Center,
or training one-on-one AND in small groups with Assistant
Fitness Director Jay Kellogg. Cindy is the epitome of a JFIT
Warrior. But this wasn’t her story less than a year ago.
Cindy became a member of the JCC in 2000. She enjoyed
walking on our treadmills and using our Elliptical and
AMT Cardio Machines. One day she was approached by
JCC Fitness Director Joy McIntyre who asked if she ever
took group fitness classes. Her reply was simply, “No. “
Upon further discussion, Joy found out that Cindy wanted
to partake in classes, but felt awkward stepping into the
Group Fitness Studio. She didn’t think she would be able to
do the moves required or even last to the end of the class.
With a bit of coaxing from Joy…Cindy decided to try a class.
Cindy confided her first initial feeling about our Les
Mills BodyPump…. “The equipment was intimidating
and everyone seemed to be veteran pumpers. But
at the end of class I felt stronger and proud of myself.
Thereafter I tried a variety of group fitness classes and
fell in love with exercise. The JFIT staff and instructors
are so supportive and motivational. I decided to take
personal training sessions with Jay. With consistency
and determination, he has helped me achieve fitness
goals I’d never thought imaginable. Now when I see
someone curiously peering in during a class, I give
them a wink and a nudge. Give it a try. You just may
surprise yourself and unleash the fitness warrior in you.”
The JCC is proud to have Cindy part of our Group Fitness
and Personal/Small Group Warriors.

7:00pm • Free to the Community at the JCC
The men and women of the Scriptures are more than
mere life portraits: they continue to live and function
long after their deaths in this world. They are biblicalhistorical characters and also archetypal figures in some
way relevant to the inner life of the modern individual,
and to modern society and politics as well. Not all these
people were models characters, they include the good
and the bad, those whose acts we perpetuate today and
those who have served as a warning and a deterrent to
repeating the mistakes of the past.
Delve into descriptive texts of the Heroes and Villains
together with Betzalel Strauss and Yair Burgansky, two
post army Israeli young men who came from Israel as
the Mekor Chaim/Steinsaltz Ambassadors to live in our
community, learn with us through school, synagogue

knowledge by learning with people of all ages and unify

Green Chariot
Saturday, Sept. 19 • 7:00pm
Location: Temple Beth-El,

Yair, a 22-year-old new Russian immigrant, yearns for
acceptance as an Israeli. Such is his desire to fit in that he
disconnects himself from his father and his circle of Russian
secular friends, finds a modern Orthodox girlfriend and
joins a religious/nationalist youth movement. Everything
seems to be perfect for the smart yeshiva student who’s
engaged to a beautiful, religious girl — until a package
arrives with his deceased mother’s belongings and turns
his world upside down. Something inside challenges
everything Yair believes about himself and the person
he`s tried to become. Engaging and thought-provoking, A
Green Chariot follows Yair through an identity crisis that
forces him to confront his religious beliefs and journey
back to the Russian identity he has fought to suppress.
The film, “West Bank Story” (2007 Oscar winner), a parody
on the Israeli/Palestinian conflict, will be shown following
the feature presentation.

Deli Man
Saturday, Dec. 12 • 7:00pm
Location: Temple Beth-El,
Hillsborough
A Freshly Made Documentary by Eric Greenberg Anjou.
The story of the American deli is the story of Jews – their
immigration, migration, upward mobility, and western
assimilation. New York may always be the most populous,
celebrated and redolent Jewish node, but substantial
and influential Jewish tides flowed even to Houston and
Dallas. The shadowy understory is how that very success
engendered the deterioration of the old, traditional urban
block and neighborhood – the epic synagogues, Mom and
Pop storefronts, and nucleus of Jewish cultural life at
which deli was the succulent heart.
The local delicatessen has been the virtual epicenter not
only of food, but of family, laughter and community. Deli
Man has visited deli meccas like the Carnegie, Katz’s, 2nd
Avenue Deli, Nate ‘n Al and Langer’s. The film features
interviews with some of the great mavens, comedians and
connoisseurs of deli.
Savor delicious appetizers of corned beef, pastrami,
knishes and pickles too – topped off with a Dr. Brown!
Discussion and Q & A with film maker Eric Greenberg Anjou
will follow screening.

The two year journey of one boy’s desire to understand
his family’s history while navigating the gap between
youthful ideals and the complex messy reality of the adult
world. A Skype discussion and Q & A with the filmmaker
will follow the screening.
From Award-winning filmmaking duo, Marcia Jarmel
(“Return of Sarah’s Daughters”) and Ken Schneider (“Regret
to Inform”) comes “Havana Curveball”. The documentary
tells the story of Mica, a classic idealistic Jewish teen who
at the age of 13, decides to take it upon himself to help
make the world a better place the best way he knows
how - through baseball. His plan for his Mitzvah project
is to collect baseball gear and send them to Cuba, which
is where Mica’s grandfather received refuge after fleeing
during WWII. What Mica sees as an opportunity to do good
and return a favor in a small way, comes to a head with
the harsh realities of the world that don’t always work
hand in hand with idealism.

Rosenzweig Born to Dance
(Documentary)
Avigdor Rosenzweig is a tap dancer. In 1939 his dancing
saved his life. Today, he is 88 and lives in a retirement
home. When Avigdor dances on the parquet floor of his
room, he laughs until he’s out of breath, and with the
last ounce of his strength he pushes his tired feet to do
a few more steps. For Avigdor, dancing isn’t a hobby and
isn’t therapy. It’s the way to survive.
Getting Serious
A Jerusalem romantic comedy about a young moderately
orthodox man who pretends to be more religious than he
is. What happens when his girlfriend discovers the truth?
The Strength to Tell (Documentary)
A film which follows a group of Jerusalem teenagers,
victims of broken homes and shattered lives. Participating
in Martef, a therapeutic program for at risk teens, they
interview surviving witnesses of the 1961 Eichmann trial
and create a play based on their stories. The young actors
and the aging Survivors develop bonds of empathy and
understanding, connected by shared pain and loss. The
film is emotional and will be remembered long after
viewing.

survivors—a call to rediscover the resilience and optimism
it takes to reinvent yourself at any age
One mastectomy, two C-sections, three pants sizes, and
lots of red lipstick later, Geralyn Lucas is dealing with the
same issues as other women her age. Her miracle babies
have grown into a typical tween with a fierce eye-roll
for her mom’s failings and a tornado of a little boy who
won’t play by his preschool’s rules. With an infectiously
hilarious voice and a true sense of empowerment, Geralyn
harnesses her fighting spirit to live life loudly and lustily,
and to grab on to all the moments that might never have

every day for boldness, joy, and gratitude and eventually
falls in love with life again.
