good things will happen. This was
the mantra for the Notre Dame
Prep hockey team on Wednesday
night as the Irish came away with
a 4-2 victory over the Airport Jets.
Ryan Genord’s goal with 2:58 left
would prove to be the difference
for NDP, who improved to 2-2 on
the season. Notre Dame jumped
out to an early 2-0 on goals by
Ryan Genord (assisted by Luke
Newman) and Danny Caton
(assisted by Matt Knill). However,
Airport would capitalize on a
turnover and get a power play
goal from Rudy Villareal to cut
the deficit to 2-1 after the first.
Despite a 22-4 shot advantage
in the second period, the Irish
were unable to beat Airport
goaltender Eric Frey and were
left with a one goal lead heading
into the third period. After a
back and forth start to the third,
Airport’s Seth Farrah hit Rudy
Villareal on a stretch pass up for
a breakaway and Villareal would
make no mistake and knot the
game at 2. A few moments later
Airport would get a power play
opportunity but was unable to
cash in, and then the Irish offense
went to work from there. Genord
would get his second of the game
off of a feed in front from Joey
Manganiello and Danny Caton
would also get his second of the
game (from Genord and Jack
Dimefski) to put the game away
for NDP. Eric Frey made 43 saves
for Airport while Michael Conroy
made 19 for the Irish,
including several big stops down
the stretch to earn his first career
high school victory. “I was very
proud of the way we overcame
adversity and found a way to
come out with the victory” said
Coach Aaron Crouse. “Their
goaltender (Frey) was outstanding
and they capitalized on their
opportunities. Tonight we
learned how to win a close hockey
game and that’s going to be
huge for us as the season moves
forward”.

wrestling season at a quad meet
hosted by Ann Arbor Pioneer.

RECORD; SWIM EARNS WIN
In what has quickly become a
rivalry series, the Notre Dame
Prep Boys Swimming and Diving
team came home with a 56-38 win
over Dearborn High School this
past Thursday. NDP dominated
most of the events, often taking
convincing 1-2 finishes. Peter
McNelis, swimming in the 200
IM for the first time, nearly
broke the NDP school record,
coming in at a time of 2:20.56.
Freshman Matt LaMothe also
turned in an impressive finish in
the 500 freestyle, lapping all of his
opponents and earning a time of
5:47.78. The Irish will be back in
action next Friday at Brighton.

The Marist 7/8 Green team
started CYO league play off on
the right foot with a 29-16 victory
over St. Josph Lake Orion. Ethan
Johnson led all scorers with 10
points while Bryce Rich added
4 additional points. Brennan
Holycross added some extremely
aggressive play to help the Irish to
victory. Coach Johnson was very
pleased with the entire teams’s
“lock down” defense.
The ND Marist 5/6 Girls started
their CYO season in strong
fashion by beating St. Joseph by
a score of 10-2. The girls are now
3-1 overall and 1-0 in league play.
Defense has been their staple
thus far as they held their 2nd
opponent of the year to only 2
points. After scoring 3 points
in the 1st half, the Irish turned
in on and put home 7 points in
the 2nd to close out the game.
Kendall Lance continued her
stellar defensive play by leading
the team in steals. Ingrid Keller (5
pts), Angela Leach (2 pts), Josie
Bloom (2 pts) and McKenna Lenz
(1 pt) led the way in scoring. The
girls will look to improve to 2-0 in
league play next Saturday vs. St.

The Marist 7/8 Varsity Boys
began the CYO season with a
bang by beating St. Joseph by a
score of 49-20. The Irish win was
