We often hear the worst stories that come out of workplace accidents. But there are many “great” stories that exist and can make an impact in your employees’ workplace behavior and improve your company’s safe working environments. Here is one such “great” story from which we can all learn. A father had a son that started working in the construction business. The father kept telling his son over and over that he needed to always wear his safety glasses. After a while the son finally relented to his dad’s insistence and started wearing them. penetrated the safety glasses’ lens. It hit with such force that the frames were cracked and the son received bruising on the eyebrow and cheekbone from the impact. The safety glasses definitely saved his eyesight and possibly his life! During the first or second week the son started wearing safety glasses he was applying siding with an air powered staple gun. During his workday the son fired a staple into the siding and it hit a metal plate on the backside, ricocheted back towards his face and one leg of the staple Share this with your fellow employees and remind them to always wear their ANSI Z87.1-2010 (American National Standards Institute) approved safety glasses and personal protection devices. We never know when an accident will happen in our workplace Yancey Now a TICO® Pro-Spotter™ Truck Dealer Throughout Georgia Terminal Investment Corporation (TICO®) and Yancey Bros. Caterpillar Opens New Manufacturing Facility in Clarke and Oconee Counties Caterpillar’s new Athens facilty had its grand opening on January 14. The new one-million-square-foot facility straddles the Clarke and Oconee county line and is expected to bring many new jobs to this area of the state. and efficiency will give the company an edge in the global marketplace. We appreciate Caterpillar’s confidence in Georgia’s workforce and continued investment in our state through this new operation.” This facility, when fully ramped up later this year, will produce Cat® Mini-Hydraulic Excavators for distribution across North and South America. This new state-of-the-art facility will employee approximately 600 Georgians by the end of 2014. Training for these jobs has been done at Athens Technical College as part of the state’s “Quick Start” program, providing free, customized job traning to qualified businesses. One of the first machines delivered from Caterpillar’s new Athens facility went to Precision 2000 out of Atlanta. In business for over 16 years, Precision 2000 works across the southeastern united states doing grading, utility and concrete work. In 2015, Caterpillar’s small Track-Type Tractors will be produced in Athens for the North and South American markets. Employment levels are expected to be in the 1,400 range at that time. Governor Nathan Deal was on-hand for the ceremonies at the 250-acre site. “The excitement and promise of today’s announcement are why we’re fighting so hard to make Georgia the No. 1 place in the nation to do business”, said Dealer. “Caterpillar will find a happy home here, and our state’s logistics, workforce, speed Precision 2000 is congratulated for purchasing one of the first machines delivered from Cat’s Athens facility. Shown are (L-R): Todd Henry (Clayton Distribution Center, Caterpillar), Mary Bell (VP Building Construction Products, Caterpillar), Doug Oberhelman (CEO, Caterpillar), Guiomar Obregón (CEO, Precision 2000), Carlos Sánchez (President, Precision 2000), Jim Stephenson (President, Yancey Bros. Co.), Zaira Brumagim (Sales Representative, Yancey Bros. Co.) and Reid Waitt (GM Compact Construction Equipment, Caterpillar). “Our first piece of Cat equipment was a 416IT backhoe loader and we have owned several other Cat machines since then,” stated Carlos Sanchez, President of Precision 2000. “We decided to buy this 308E2 for several reasons. First we have had a lot of success with our other Cat machines and that means a lot. We like the size of the 308 too. It will be perfect for installing storm lines and grading for sidewalks which is what we plan to use it for.” Added Sanchez, “We also were fortunate to see the Athens facility firsthand when the machine came off the line. We were impressed with the cleanliness, the organization and the quality control measures Caterpillar has in place as we toured the facility. The plant was modern and it was an awesome experience to have the opportunity to visit there. And so far our machine is really doing great.” Setting Sights on Feeding Georgia’s Hungry Providing help and support for all of Georgia families in need is a vitally important part of being a citizen of our state. Making sure your neighbors have the means to feed their children and family members is an important, and sometimes life-saving act. Believe it or not, nearly 1 in 5 Georgians struggle with hunger, often unable to purchase the food needed to stay healthy. On July 14 Yancey Bros. Co. will kick off an annual DUMP HUNGER campaign to benefit the nine Regional Food Banks located throughout our state. Georgia’s Regional Food Banks are at their lowest stock levels during the summer months, and Yancey employees will kick off the inaugural campaign in July of this year. This campaign will work towards getting Yancey’s employees, vendors, friends and customers to donate food and funds to Georgia’s Regional Food Banks during the summer months. Unemployment and underemployment are driving the increase in demand for food in Georgia, with 27% of people served by Georgia’s Regional Food Banks reporting they are seeking help for the first time in their lives. Almost 40% of children who have been identified as “struggling with hunger” are from homes not classified as being in poverty. These homes are ineligible for the Federal Food Nutrition Program; they are the homes of working families that have become the “working poor” in today’s economy. The nine Regional Food Banks that will be supported in Yancey’s DUMP HUNGER campaign cover all 159 counties of our state. These agencies are: • Chattanooga Area Food Bank • Food Bank of Northeast Georgia • Georgia Mountain Food Bank • Atlanta Community Food Bank • Feeding the Valley Food Bank • Golden Harvest Food Bank • Middle Georgia Community Food Bank • America’s Second Harvest of Coastal Georgia • Second Harvest of South Georgia Georgia’s Regional Food Banks do not distribute food directly to those in need of assistance; they provide food to 2,300 agencies in communities throughout Georgia. Decentralizing the distribution through community based agencies ensures that food is available in places where people are more likely to seek help. Donated product arrives from the food service industry, retailers, manufacturers, distributors, growers, processors and food drives. Georgia’s Regional Food Banks also purchase protein and other special diet items to round out the mix of food available. Last year Georgia’s Regional Food Banks distributed more than 103 million pounds of food, including 36 million pounds of nutritious – but unsold – food salvaged from retailers that would otherwise have been sent to a landfill. These Regional Food Banks provide food to people in need free of charge. They include food pantries, soup kitchens, youth programs, senior centers, community kitchens, day care centers, night shelters and rehabilitation centers. Deserving people from all walks of life benefit from these Regional Food Banks. Recipients include working families, those who have lost jobs, children, the elderly, disabled and more. Please make plans to assist us in our efforts to alleviate hunger across Georgia by participating in the DUMP HUNGER campaign from July 14-25. As we get closer to the kick-off additional materials will be posted on our website and reminders mailed to all Yancey customers. www.DumpHunger.org Yancey Now Offering Free Fleet Solutions Online Training for Classes for CAT® Web Applications Yancey Bros. Keep Your CAT® Generator Operating Optimally with Our New Generator Monitoring Service Yancey Power Systems is now offering a new service which provide 24/7 monitoring of customers’ electronic generator systems. This remote system makes emergency power generators dramatically more reliable for businesses and home owners who have CAT® generators installed. The Yancey Power wireless remote monitoring system is like having an Electrical Power Service Technician watching the generator 24 hours a day to make sure it is functioning properly. In the event of a critical alarm or performance condition, the system will automatically notify Yancey Power by email or text (and the customer also, if desired). Yancey Power can then respond to potential problems before a real utility power outage occurs. The system will also oversee a generator’s weekly exercise cycles which monitor proper operation and all other available data from the generator, and this information is accessible online 24/7. Some of the key benefits and functionality of the system include: • Improved Reliability - The emergency power generator is electronically monitored around the clock. • Peace of Mind - Know with confidence that the generator is ready for the next power outage. • Instant Alarm Notification via email and/or text of system change in status, including: system running, system failure, low fuel level (if available), low engine temperature, low battery voltage, not in auto, and many other available parameters. • Weekly and/or Monthly Activity and Status Reports sent automatically via email. • Customer Website provides secure connectivity to the emergency power system, access to all historical data, the ability to customize alarm notifications, and the ability to generate reports. • Standard and Custom Reporting capabilities provide in depth detail or summary analysis of all unit parameters available from the generator control system. • Time & Date Stamped Event Logging provides validated data for system diagnostics, historical analysis and system performance verification. • Data Archiving - Securely maintains all system events for the life of the equipment. • Remote Start/Stop capabilities (if enabled) allow the user to operate the emergency power generator through the secure web based user portal. • Rapid Service Response - Service issues can be addressed immediately minimizing downtime. Depending on the use of your generator, the consequences of the system not working when needed could be financial loss, security breaches, regulatory issues or even life safety. Leave the monitoring and worries of maintaining your generator in tip-top shape to the experts at Yancey Power Systems. If you would like to speak with someone about starting a 24/7 monitoring of your electric generator system, please call one of our Representatives at: (877) 926-2398 in the northern half of Georgia, or (866) 250-2424 in the southern half of the state. Introducing the New 336FH Hybrid Excavator The new CAT® 336F excavator is built to meet U.S. EPA Tier 4 Final emissions standards, and it comes equipped with several features to enhance fuel efficiency. Electric boom and stick regeneration valves capture and recycle energy, and an engine idle shutdown setting turns the engine off after a specified amount of idle time. Additionally, the operator can reduce engine speed to idle with the touch of a button to help save fuel, plus an economy power mode helps the operator manage and conserve fuel. To maintain high productivity and fuel efficiency, the C9.3 ACERT™ engine is equipped with an exhaust aftertreatment regeneration system that ensures the machine works as normal with no operator intervention needed. This means the operator can stay focused on work with no costly interruption to the job process. The engine also runs efficiently on biodiesel blends up to B20. CAT Connect makes smart use of technology and services to help improve jobsite efficiency. LINK technologies such as Product Link™ assist fleet owners in managing equipment by tracking information—fuel usage, productivity, idle time, and diagnostic codes—which is then shared through the VisionLink® interface. Optional GRADE technologies, such as CAT Grade Control Depth and Slope, help operators work more productively and accurately with less rework. The factory-integrated system displays real-time positioning and cut-and-fill data on the standard cab monitor. This information helps operators get digging and slope work done right the first time to save money on fuel and materials and to minimize the need for a grade checker. The system can easily be upgraded to 3D capability through Yancey by adding proven CAT AccuGrade™ GPS or Universal Total Station (UTS) systems. The roll-over-protective-structure (ROPS) cab is spacious and quiet with large glass areas for all-around visibility. It features positive air filtration, which pressurizes the cab slightly to keep out dust, height-adjustable joystick consoles, a large color monitor, radio with MP3 auxiliary audio port, and available air suspension, heated and cooled seat options to help make operators comfortable and productive. For enhanced safety, the 336F comes with time-delay working lights and a rearview camera. To simplify routine maintenance, the 336F is designed with most service points located at ground level. It also has a side-by-side cooling package that makes maintenance quick and easy. For more information about the 336F, please contact your Yancey Bros. Co. machine sales representative today. 336F H Excavator Basic Specifications Operating weight Engine model Net power (SAE) Bucket dig force (SAE) Max. reach (horizontal) Max. digging depth Track length 80,5001 lb to 86,600 lb2 Cat C9.3 ACERT 302 hp 41,570 lb1 36 ft 2 in.1 24 ft 7 in.1 16 ft 6 in. 1 HD Reach boom, 10 ft 6 in. stick, 2.98 yd3 GP bucket, 28 in. The four newest D-Series models are replacements for their B3, C and C2-Series predecessors. The Cat® D-Series line now encompasses six skid steer loader models ranging in rated operating capacity from 1,800 lb. to 3,700 lb. The 236D and 242D are mid-size frame models and can be as narrow as 60 inches. To provide broader selection for skid steer buyers, the 236D has been redesigned to a smaller platform size. The result is a power-dense radial-lift-path model that combines compact dimensions with impressive performance specs: 1,800-pound operating capacity, 123-inch (3122-mm) hinge-pin height, 74.3 hp gross engine power and peak torque of 195 lb.-ft. The new D-Series large frame models are the 246D and 262D with rated operating capacities of 2,150 lb. and 2,700 lb., respectively. The 236D, 242D, 246D and 262D feature an electronically controlled 3.3-liter engine that meets Tier 4 Final (Stage IIIB) emissions standards. The Cat C3.3B engine provides 74 hp with 8 percent more torque and a 6 percent increase in fuel economy compared to the previous models. “Cab-One” modular structure and advanced control The D-Series models introduce a new standard in sealed and pressurized cab design. The Caterpillar “Cab-One” design provides superior sealing, which allows doubling the cab pressurization attained with the previous design. The result is a cleaner working environment. The standard control monitor provides a single-code security feature that helps prevent theft and unwanted operation after scheduled work hours. Intelligent Leveling System The D-Series models feature the Cat Intelligent Leveling™ (ILEV) system, which provides a number of industry leading features, including dual self-leveling, electronic snubbing, return-to-dig and work tool positioning. The dual self-leveling system electronically and automatically levels the loader linkage when raising and lowering the lift arms. Electronic snubbing automatically cushions the descent of the lift arms, slowing downward motion just before the arms reach their stops. The return-to-dig feature allows the operator to set the digging angle of the bucket and then to automatically recall the setting by depressing a trigger switch on the joystick as the lift arms lower. The work tool positioning feature allows the angle of the tool to be pre-set, as when positioning a trencher for the proper depth, and then to automatically recall the setting if the machine is repositioned. New lift arms and coupler Lift arms for all D-Series machines are a new tubular design that retains excellent lift characteristics and strength while presenting a narrower profile. The sleek lift arm design improves sight lines to the sides of the machine, to the tires and to the work-tool/ coupler interface to provide enhanced visibility and site safety. The available automatic work-tool coupler is now electrically actuated, replacing the previous hydraulically actuated coupler. Serviceability D-Series models accommodate required emissions controls (diesel particulate filter and diesel oxidation catalyst) with no compromise in serviceability. The air conditioner condenser is attached to the inside of the engine compartment door and is easily accessible for cleaning or service. The new models also feature an electric priming pump with automatic air bleed for the fuel system. The priming system eases the task of replacing and priming the fuel filter/water separator. In fact, YES designs, builds and ships enclosures not only to all corners of the United States, but to CAT® dealers across the globe. Recently YES was contracted to design and build custom generator enclosures for a job in Nashville, Tennessee, by Thompson Power Systems, the Caterpillar engine and generator dealer in Middle Tennessee, West Tennessee, and North Mississippi. YES and Thompson Power Systems teamed up to install three new aluminum frame designed sound attenuated weather proof enclosures for CAT 3512 generator sets at a financial service building in the Music City. These enclosures would be built in Griffin, shipped to Nashville and then hoisted seven stories up to the top of the building. Thompson Power was in need of a quick lead time turnaround and, despite ice storms shutting down Atlanta, YES shipped all three enclosures one week earlier than scheduled. After closing off downtown streets on a Saturday morning, all three enclosures were lifted seven stories onto the rooftop location.
