In addition to dinner, dancing and silent auction items, the event features award presentations to community and physician leaders who have demonstrated a passion for promoting the OLBH mission by both word and deed. Thanks to the support of organizations and individuals, proceeds from each black tie event (more than $300,000 altogether) have allowed for the purchase of state-of-the-art equipment, as well as renovations to the hospital’s Sister Eva Marie Testa, S.F.P. Mammography Suite, benefitting countless women in OLBH’s service area. Funds raised from this year’s event will help support an exciting new hospital project that proposes to revolutionize breast health in the area. A proposed women’s center intends to combine a high risk breast clinic with the latest in imaging technology, significantly reducing the time from detection to diagnosis of abnormalities. With the high rate of mortality from late stage breast cancer in the region, this project truly has the potential to save lives. Additional information about this project will be available in the coming months. Your support of the black tie event and other OLBH Foundation initiatives allows the hospital to continue to provide high quality care. If you would like to attend the 2007 black tie event, please contact Christi Willard at (606) 833-3956. Pay for Play scheduled June 15 New format lets donors make requests in advance T he OLBH Foundation, in conjunction once again with 105.7 WLGC and 99.3, WNXT, is hosting its annual Pay for Play event Friday, June 15, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and currently is accepting donations. For a minimum donation of $5, callers can request a song or make a dedication on WNXT or WLGC and each caller will be registered for a vacation getaway. All funds raised during the event will help support Camp Quest. Camp Quest, sponsored by the diabetes services of the OLBH Diabetes & Wound Care Center, is the Tri-State’s only program for children and teens with asthma or diabetes. Camp Quest provides fun opportunities and is a great experience for children who suffer from either disease, both of which are prevalent throughout the Tri-State region. Camp Quest helps participants learn about themselves through sharing their experiences, making decisions about their condition, and expressing their feelings. In addition to an educational component, the children participate in games, sports, swimming, crafts and other fun opportunities. Camp Quest is a place to learn selfconfidence, independence, and to be with other kids with asthma and diabetes while having fun. This is the first year that donations and requests will be taken in advance of the event as opposed to taking calls the day of Pay for Play. “The idea with the change is to better be able to accommodate requests and to offer those who wish to join our efforts a larger window of opportunity to do so,” Christi Willard, OLBH Foundation director, said. “It’s our hope to have full playlists of requests ready to go starting at 7 a.m. June 15. We’re confident the community will show us the same support they have in the past as every donation provides direct support for area children with diabetes and asthma.” All donations are tax-deductible. To make a request and a donation, call the OLBH CareLine at (606) 833-CARE (2273) any time before June 15. T HE OLBH F OUNDATION S TAFF Chuck D.
