About Tie
Tie is a lovable and quirky squirrel.
He has had more than his fair share of
close calls with the tracks and is very
willing to share those lessons with others.
His bandaged tail has a sixth sense of
sorts as it starts to twitch whenever a
train is near. This sends Tie into an alert
mode in which he runs about with tail
twitching and arms waving as he yells,
"Train!" You could say he is his own
railroad sign and signal.
Kids and adults love Tie's personality.
He knows how to behave around the
tracks and shares that message in his
own quirky way. But…he's still a squirrel
with a weakness for any kind of nut,
especially acorns. This usually distracts
him and he can easily wander off.
Tie is happy about being a squirrel but is
often mistaken for another animal like a
chipmunk, kangaroo or beaver. This often
leads to funny banter and is a great way
to get the audience laughing with Tie
and them wanting to give him a big hug.
Tie lives in the SunRail Operations
Control Center in Sanford. He was born in
Longwood, Florida but caught a train to
Sanford when he heard that SunRail was
coming. He knew there would be a lot of
people who had not really been around
trains before and wanted to make sure
they knew how to be smart and stay safe.

Tie lives in a tree but stands or sits on
his favorite fence when performing for a
live audience. He is often seen in seated
or standing positions when appearing
in produced videos. When performing
live, Tie will have the assistance of a
dedicated puppeteer to ensure his
twitching tail, voice and mannerisms are
always consistent.
