 BOYS AND GIRLS LACROSSE GUIDELINES 1. SEASON
1.1. Starting date is determined by the North Coast Section of the CIF
2. CONTEST INFORMATION
2.1. Starting Times: Set by host school.
2.2. Days of Competition: Tuesday and Friday
2.3. Contest Format: Boys and Girls teams play at opposite sites on same day.
2.4. Any changes to the approved league schedule must be approved by the
Principals of the two schools involved, per league Bylaws.
2.5. Spectator Control:
2.5.1. Only players, coaches, trainers, doctors, game officials, scorekeepers
and members of the press are allowed along the sidelines.
2.5.2. Spectators must remain in the stands.
2.5.3. Only ball retrievers are allowed behind the end line of the field. They must
be equipped with the proper lacrosse protective equipment, including
helmet, mouth guard, and other protective gear required of the players. The
ball retrievers shall remain at least 15 yards behind the end line during play.
Their attire should be in contrast to the two teams playing on the field.
3. PREVAILING RULES
3.1. All games will be conducted under the Federation of State High School
Association's lacrosse rulebook, as mandated by the National Federation of
State High School Athletic Association.
3.2. Games ending in a tie will go to sudden death overtime.
3.3. The home team will provide space at the scoring table for the visiting team score
keeper. The home team will keep score and provide a copy of the score sheet to
the visiting team in a timely manner.
3.4. The NCS Ejection Policy will be strictly enforced.
4. EQUIPMENT AND UNIFORMS
4.1. Uniforms: The home team will wear the light uniform and the visiting team will
wear the dark uniform.
5. OFFICIALS
5.1. Varsity games must be played with at least two officials: one referee and one
umpire. If a third official is provided by the officials association he/she will be a
Field Judge.
5.2. The referee's decision shall be deemed as official and is not subject to protest
unless it can be proven that there was a definite misinterpretation of the rules.
5.3. The officials association under contract to the league shall be used exclusively
for all games.
6. NORTH COAST SECTION QUALIFYING AND AT–LARGE BERTHS 6.1. The automatic representative to the NCS will be the winner of the DVAL
tournament.
6.2. Any DVAL team that meets NCS qualifications may apply for any at–large berth.

7.1. The top four teams at the end of league round robin play will advance to the
DVAL tournament.
7.2. In the case of a tie, the tie breaking criteria will be used to determine seeding or
qualification.
7.3. The top two seeds will host the first round playoff games.
7.4. The championship game will be played at the higher seed’s location.
7.5. The first round games will be played on Tuesday. The finals will be played on
Friday.
8. TIE BREAKING CRITERIA 8.1. Head to head competition
8.2. If two teams are tied and split the regular season contests:
8.2.1. Then the team that gave up fewest goals during the two games between
those two teams is the winner of the tie breaker.
8.2.2. If the teams are still tied then the team that gave up the fewest number of
goals during the regular league season is the winner of the tie breaker.
8.2.3. If the teams are still tied then the team that won the second game is the
winner of the tie breaker.
8.3. In the case of a three way tie:
8.3.1. Once the tie is broken the criteria reverts back to head to head
competition.
8.3.2. The total number of goals given up in regular season games amongst the
three teams involved in the tie will be used to break the tie. The team with
the fewest goals allowed will win the tie breaker.
8.3.3. If the teams are still tied then the team that gave up the fewest number of
goals during the regular league season is the winner of the tie breaker.
8.3.4. If the teams are still tied then a random drawing will be used to determine
the winner of the tie breaker.
9. ALL LEAGUE SELECTION
9.1. Most Valuable Player
9.2. Coaches may nominate a Most Valuable Player.
9.3. When each coach desiring to nominate an MVP has done so the coaches vote
by secret ballot. Coaches may not vote for their own player.
9.4. The MVP will be a separate selection. It does not reduce the number of
nominations a coach has for the all-league team.
9.5. Coaches shall select 1st Team, 2nd Team and Honorable Mention All-League
teams.
9.6. First team all-league will be comprised of 12 players. There will be 3 defense, 5
middies, 3 attack, and one goalie.
9.7. Second team all-league will be comprised of 12 players. There will be 3 defense,
5 middies, 3 attack, and one goalie.
9.8. Honorable Mention team will be comprised of all players who have received
votes from the coaches. If a team does not have a player with at least one vote
then the coach may appoint at least one player to the honorable mention team.
10. Nominating and Voting Procedure:
10.1.
Each team has 2 nominations plus 1 nomination for every 3 league wins.
10.2.
Names will be submitted by position: Defense, Middies, Attack and Goalie
10.3.
After all names have been submitted and discussed, coaches will vote by
position assigning 3 points for a first team player, 2 for a 2nd team player and 1
point for an honorable mention player. By position, the players that receive the
most points will be designated first team until the positions are filled; followed by
2nd team and then all other players that received points from the coaches will be
designated honorable mention.
