behoeften van het heden zonder het vermogen van
toekomstige generaties om in hun eigen behoeften te
voorzien in gevaar te brengen,

According to the Commission, the "unprecedented demand for minerals" in emerging
economies such as China and India is placing increasing pressure on the global supply of
raw materials such as copper, iron ore and zinc, all of which are crucial for many EU
industries.

“UK Government warned to act on raw materials crisis”
The government must act quickly to head off a crisis in the supply of raw materials, the country’s
leading business and environment groups have warned today.
It identifies a triple threat to the British economy: rising global demand, rapidly degrading
ecosystems, and rising costs of raw materials. Despite recent fluctuations, material prices are
projected to escalate, partly as a result of three billion people joining the global middle
classes, putting pressure on already fragile and depleted ecosystems.

The European Union is highly dependent on imports of raw materials. While raw materials
are crucial for the industry, Europe is facing major challenges to secure reliable access
to raw materials, including trade barriers at an international level. The European

determined to tackle them.
