TRUNK CALLS from Elephant Rock # 41 November 2011 Phone: 07 54635555 email: [email protected] web: http://elephantrock-naturally.com.au snail mail: 2055 Lake Moogerah Rd. Moogerah Qld 4309 G‟day readers. Yet another epistle from us at Elephant Rock. Should you not have time to read it, just look at the pictures to get a bit of an idea about the activities here. Also we have kept the writing pretty short so the time you have to spend to read it should not be too long. The end of another Calendar year is approaching and we are going into our 10th year of providing shelter and fun activities to the Nudist fraternity. This time next year we will have a birthday party to celebrate ten successful years - if we are still here! So let us take this opportunity to wish you all a very merry Christmas and a happy, healthy and prosperous 2012. ...but is it really art? Cheers, Sue & Jaak Who said you cannot jive in thongs? July 16 - 17 Wintry Xmas Middle of the Queensland winter. You do expect it to be cool but sunny. Lovely in the warmth of the sunshine soaking up vitamin D. So of course the decision was made to hold a bit of a „doo‟ and call it Wintry Xmas expecting the typical “beautiful one day, perfect the next” Queensland weather. What happened? The Friday was the harbinger for things to come being cold and miserable. Saturday the Melbourne drizzle set in - never saw the sun and the rain that fell ( 9mm) just made for pronounced misery! But the show went on as intended, in the warmth of a roaring log fire in the Common Room....and guess what? The Sunday blossomed into a beautiful Queensland sunny winter‟s day! Bugger! The night in the common room went off beautifully the dinner with all the different foods (and finished off with really scrumptious desserts): the performances by the recepients of X‟mas presents and the general fun of the night cannot be emphasized enough. Fabulous!! Of course there are always those who do not participate - like Jaak who was „too shy‟ to get up so he called on an outsider acquaintance of his to do something in lieu. This „someone‟ turned out to be a wandering „artist‟ who introduced himself as Pablo Sebastian vanGogh daVinci, the fastest artist in the East. He asked for, and got a blond to pose for him and painted a fast ‟work of art‟ while attempting to amuse the spectators with some feeble jokes. Thankfully he did finish pretty quickly and departed...never to be seen again. Trunk Calls 41 Page 2 August 13 - 14 A Psychic Weekend In August we tried out something different - a “textile” event. The renowned Psychic, Greg Sheehy conducted as many sittings as he was able to get in during the Sat/Sun time frame. From all accounts he was very good and even provided all participants with a personal tape of the individual sessions. Even „though all were required to wear clothing during the weekend, the general feeling was that it was well worth the discomfort. Will we do this (or something similar) again? Only time will tell. September 17-18 Camp oven cookout The September weather was still unnaturally chilly at night, but the days were wonderful, the temperature reaching low thirties. Although we have been told by email that we do not know how to cook by camp oven the finished product(s) turned out pretty bloody good. The crowd really appreciated the banquet on the night and there was plenty left for the next day. There were lots and lots of people... ...who enjoyed the happy hour campfire which was there slowly preparing the night‟s repast. We will enjoy this again in August next year! “I think men who have a piercing are better prepared for marriage. They've experienced pain and bought jewelry”. Rita Rudner Trunk Calls 41 Page 3 October 22 - 23 The Second “Annual” Art Weekend And again the wannabe artists thronged to Elephant Rock to partake of of the knowledge that Kathy and John so willingly passed on. Thankfully the weather treated us much better than the one we had last October. Explaining colours Looking to Trunk Calls #38: “Rain rain, go away…and it did, at least some times during the Art weekend. So the budding would-be artists carried on. To get out of the wet, and cold, the brush wielders took refuge in the carport...and covered themselves for warmth.” This time the tutoring again took place in Eager students the carport, but only as a convenient „studio‟ for the weather was just the right taking it all in temperature for us ‟nudies‟. Came the night and there was no need for the “ wood stove in the Common Room to keep every body warm”. Instead the Black Tie & Tiara dance (see next Let‟s see the page) required the fans be turned on to results cool the sweaty bodies! „John-with-the-knowledge‟ and others from the learners group insist that being able to draw is beneficial for all budding artists so a Drawing Workshop was proposed. (Doubtful have you seen Picasso's drawings?) No date for this has been set, but if enough interest is shown we can do something about it. i elf s y m g! e in az m raw a d I es s at m t eti emp m t So y at m Trunk Calls 41 n Page 4 DID YOU KNOW? In the 1500‟s most people got married in June because they took their yearly bath in May, and they still smelled pretty good by June... However, since they were starting to smell . .. . brides carried a bouquet of flowers to hide the body odour. Hence the custom today of carrying a bouquet when getting married. There be dancers... Black ties and tiaras were all the go at Elephant Rock that beautiful night after the hard yakka of the opening day of the Art Weekend. It was good to see that the participants had gone to some lengths to dress for the occasion. The tired (?) assembly let their collective hair down to the „old time‟ dance music from the „60s and „70s which boomed out in surround sound. ...and there be watchers Needless to say the doors and windows were flung open to allow the cold night air to cool down the heat created by the exuberant dancers– the dancers who suddenly realised that they knew how to jive. The men jumped and tripped and threw the ladies around the dance floor nearly dislocating arms in the process. ...and of course always there be jokers Everyone got into the swing of things, so much so that we are looking at having more such party dancing sessions in the future. Any ideas? What about a Zumba Party...in the nude??????????? Trunk Calls 41 Page 5 2011 Events Calendar October 22 - 23 By popular request The Second Art Weekend for the year.
