September 19, 2014 XGAMES VISIT BHS ● On Thursday, September 18th Boone High School had the privilege of hosting the ASA High School Tour. The ASA High School Tour includes oncampus assemblies at 100 high schools in 20 markets where top skateboarding, BMX and inline skating pros perform incredible stunts on a speciallydesigned 12 foot high mobile halfpipe while offering students information and ways to identify and prevent bullying along with the dangers of tobacco use and ways to combat peer pressure. ● ● Be There this stands for being emotionally present for people. It’s a powerful message of respect that improves communication and strengthens relationships. Happiness is based on relationships within your community based on mutual respect. Make Their Day this stands for finding simple ways to serve or delight people in a meaningful and memorable way. It’s about contributing to someone else’s life, not because you want something out of it, but because that’s the person you want to be. Have Fun this taps into your natural way of being creative, enthusiastic and light hearted. Having fun energizes the creativity and problemsolving abilities within you. You work on becoming the most positive and enthusiastic person you can be. We are challenging our community to live by the “Toreador Way” and help us set an example for our students. Photos by HS Student Nathanial Brown Five top action sports stars performed at Boone High, presenting a unique and rare opportunity for students to interact with the athletes in a oneonone setting. The list of pros that appeared included Trevor Meyer (St. Park, MN), Eito Yasutoko (Osaka, Japan), Kevin Robinson (Providence, RI), PaulLuc Ronchetti (Wymondham, UK), Danny Mayer (Omaha, NE), Austin Coleman (Los Angeles, CA), Mykel Larrin (Milwaukee, WI) and Jimmy Walker (Chicago, IL). This event tied into this year’s focal point of doing things the “Toreador Way." The “Toreador Way” is based on the philosophy where students concentrate on four key elements of their lives: ● Choose Your Attitude this stands for taking responsibility for how you respond to what life throws at you. There are many things you can’t control, the weather, other human beings, traffic, etc. The only thing you can control is our response to our challenges. Tobacco Free Environment: One priority of all parents and educators is to be positive models for healthy behavior among our children. This is why Board Policy 905.5 states: School district facilities and grounds, including school vehicles, are off limits for tobacco use, including the use of nicotine products that are not FDA (Federal Drug Administration) approved for tobacco cessation. This requirement extends to students, employees and visitors. This policy applies at all times, including schoolsponsored and non schoolsponsored events. Persons failing to abide by this policy are required to extinguish their smoking material, dispose of the tobacco/nicotine product or leave the school district premises immediately. Parents and visitors are reminded that this policy applies anytime on school grounds even when in a personal vehicle. Your support in providing a healthy environment is appreciated.
