HELMET (Aus)
out of Stakes Winner-Producing Mare
LUSTRE (Aus)
Bred to Sprint - and Fast
This September born colt is by Darley's three-time Group 1 winning stallion, HELMET.
Not only did Helmet win two of the three legs of the Two-Year-Old Triple Crown, he
returned to the track as a three-year-old to run third in both the Group 3 Run To The Rose
(by a length to SMART MISSILE) and Group 1 Golden Rose (won by MANAWANUI) before
heading to Melbourne to win the Group 3 Caulfield Guineas Prelude (by 3.5 lengths). He
then topped off an already top class resume to capture the $1m Group 1 Caulfield Guineas
in 1:35.36, the fastest time recorded in the race’s history.
Known as a 'sire making race', other Caulfield Guineas winning stallions that have gone on to
successful stud careers include VAIN, LUSKIN STAR, RED ANCHOR, REDOUTE’S CHOICE,
SHOW A HEART, LONHRO and STARSPANGLEDBANNER.
This colt is a member of Helmet's first crop of yearlings. They have been very well received
in the sales ring to-date, fetching up to $230,000 and going to some very good judges.
Helmet is a son of EXCEED AND EXCEL, the 2012-2013 Champion Australian Sire and
Champion Sprinter. As well as producing Helmet, Exceed and Excel is sire of Champion 2yo
Filly and four-time Group 1 winner GUELPH, Champion Colt - France and Germany
EXCELEBRATION (now a sire at Coolmore Stud), Champion 2yo EARTHQUAKE, Champion
3yo Filly & Golden Slipper winner OVERREACH, Champion 2yo Colt SIDESTEP, etc. Being
from the prepotent DANEHILL sire line, it's likely that Exceed And Excel’s sons, headed by
Helmet, will also make the grade at stud.
HELMET
From a Tough, Black Type Female Family
The colt's dam LUSTRE is a Woodlands Stud-bred mare, being by their resident stallion
QUEST FOR FAME (GB) out of stakes placed NIGHT SHIFT (USA) mare, PERLE.
QUEST FOR FAME is the sire of Champion Two-year-old and Three-Year-Old Colt VISCOUNT
(sire), Champion Two-Year-Old DRACULA and Gr.1 winners SARRERA, UNWORLDLY,
FAMOUS DIGGER, TRIBUTES and DE BEERS.
As a broodmare sire, QUEST FOR FAME has produced 26 Group winning horses including
Champion Three-Year-Old Filly NORZITA, Gr.1 Spring Champion Stakes winners
COMPLACENT and EREWHON, Gr.1 Champagne Stakes winner SKILLED, Champion Sprinter
in NZ TAVISTOCK as well as European Group 1 victors AFRICAN ROSE and FAMOUS NAME.
Exciting SW colts SCISSOR KICK and SIDESTEP are also out of a QUEST FOR FAME mares.
A Half Brother to a Stakes Winner
LUSTRE herself gained five placings at two and three years, but has already made a larger
mark at stud, producing the stakes winner GLOWS, a daughter of Woodlands Stud stalwart
CANNY LAD. GLOWS won four races from 1100m to 1200m including the Listed MVRC
Typhoon Tracy Stakes. She also placed in the Group 3 MRC WW Cockram Stakes and the
Listed Kevin Hayes Stakes, earning $181,575 for her owners.
LUSTRE has had three to race for two winners to-date and
has an unraced two-year-old in the stables of Peter Moody
and a weanling by WRITTEN TYCOON yet to represent her.
She is now in foal to HIGH CHAPARRAL.
LUSTRE is a half sister to six winners, including Group 3 NJC
Newmarket Hcp and dual Listed winner FALAISE. He won
ten races and $737,190 and placed in a further ten stakes
races including a second in the Group 2 Sir Byrne Hart
Stakes.
She is also a half sister to seven-time winner and stakes
placegetter, TAHITIAN BLACK. This consistent campaigner,
now a seven-year-old, is still competing successfully at
Sydney's metropolitan tracks, having already won
$370,106. He recently ran 3rd in a Group 3 at Rosehill.
LUSTRE is also a three quarter sister to six-time winner and
Listed Hawkesbury Guineas victor, PEARLY KINGS.
FALAISE
Serious consideration has gone into the mating of HELMET over a QUEST FOR FAME mare.
Our colt is bred on a very similar cross to Champion 2YO Colt in Australia in 2012-13, SIDESTEP,
by Helmet's sire Exceed And Excel out of a Quest For Fame mare. SIDESTEP has amassed todate A$1,343,500 in winning the Group 2 ATC Pago Pago S, Group 2 Royal Sovereign S, and Listed
Darby Munro S, as well as running second to OVERREACH in the Group 1 ATC Golden Slipper and to
CRITERION in the Listed Black Opal Stakes.
This colt's mating earns a A++ True Nicks rating.

The Trainer
The colt will be trained by Jarrod Austin of Austin Racing Stables, Warwick Farm. Jarrod was
a vital part of the selection process for this colt. The brief given to him by OZ Racing was,
"We want a horse with the WOW factor - something to get really excited about."
Along with OZ Racing's Jane Henning, Jarrod firstly combed the Inglis Classic Sale in Sydney
before flying down to Melbourne for the Inglis Premier Sale and finally selecting this colt. As
Jane is a Pedigree Analyst, great consideration was given to the compatibility of sire and
dam as a pre-requisite to the short-listing of suitable types for them both to inspect.
"This colt took my eye the moment I saw him. He's beautifully put together, has a
look-at-me attitude and moves like an athlete. I'm excited to train him." (Jarrod Austin)
In the Sydney training ranks, Jarrod would be
described as a 'boutique trainer', currently
having only about twenty horses in work.
Jarrod's life long experience in the racing
industry - including as a private trainer - was
rewarded with immediate success when he
decided to establish himself as a public
trainer. Commencing in 2011 with a 'handful'
of horses, he achieved a city double including
a Stakes win in his first season, along with
many city and provincial winners. This season to-date, 60% of starters have won or placed.
This season, Jarrod has enjoyed prominence with TERRITORY, who had not won since 2010
before entering his stables in 2012. Apart from four wins for Jarrod in previous campaigns,
the 7 year-old recently placed in consecutive stakes starts - the Group 2 Expressway Stakes,
Group 3 Southcross Stakes and Listed Takeover Target - being beaten either only a half
length or a length by established Group winners including WEARY (Fr) and DRIEFONTEIN.
Jarrod Austin has a decidedly hands on approach, with the philosophy that in order to
realise each horse's best potential, it should be happy, healthy and fighting fit. They receive
highly individual and specialised care which, combined with a good team, patience and hard
work, make up the key ingredients of Austin Racing's successful formula.
A distinguishing feature of the Austin Racing Stables at Warwick Farm is the presence of
grass paddocks at the rear of the stable block. His horses enjoy a more natural lifestyle and
he intermingles their track work with bush rides in order to keep them happy and relaxed.
Jarrod often rides the horses himself on slow work days to get a feel for them as individuals.
His reputation as a genuine horseman has spread and consequently, the quality of his young
stock has risen. This augurs well for Austin Racing Stables' success in the next few seasons.
OZ Racing is pleased to now be using Austin Racing Stables exclusively for its Sydney-based horses.
The Syndication
A syndicate is being formed at $6,000 per 10% share (or $3,000 for a 5% share). Buyers are
welcome to take up one or more shares, subject to availability.
Inclusions
The share price includes the purchase of the horse, breaking-in, agistment, $4.5m Golden
Slipper & Golden Rose first nom fee, $5m Inglis Race Series nom fee, ASIC compliance,
insurance, training, transport, vet fees*, farrier and registration fees to 30th June 2015.
* (extraordinary vet fees for surgery, trauma etc are not included)
Ongoing Costs
After 30th June, each shareholder will receive a monthly invoice from OZ Racing (to be paid
within 14 days). It includes any net training, agistment, farrier and veterinary fees for the
preceding month. Apart from our $25 monthly management fee, OZ Racing does not add a
margin to these costs.
Naming
Each owner will be entitled to the submission of one name suggestion per 5% shareholding.
Once all shares have been sold, OZ Racing will call for your name suggestions. A vote will
then be held to select the shortlist of names to be submitted to the Registrar of Racehorses.
Prizemoney
All net prizemoney will be paid direct by Racing NSW into the individual shareholders'
nominated bank accounts after each race. OZ Racing does not take any percentage of the
prizemoney other than for the individual share we take up in every horse we syndicate.
Our Colours
The colt will carry OZ Racing's distinctive 'Gold, OZ Racing Logo and Purple Stars' colours.
About OZ Racing
OZ Racing was founded about 17 years ago by successful Perth businessman, Bruce Saxild.
A genuine racing fan, Bruce was keen to put like-minded people together to race horses at
an affordable price in his home state. Bruce retains a share in every horse OZ Racing
syndicates. In a competitive industry, he has nurtured an enviable reputation for honesty
and integrity for OZ Racing, along with an impressive strike rate of 68% winners to runners.
Three years ago, Bruce approached Sydney based Pedigree Analyst and Bloodstock Agent
Jane Henning, with a view to establishing a 'Sydney branch'. A devoted racing fan herself,
Jane was keen to take up the challenge and dipped OZ Racing's toe in the water with two
modestly priced purchases the first year. The next season, OZ Racing syndicated another
three in Sydney (now 3 year-olds in early racing) and last season, procured another three.
These unraced 2 year-olds are two superb I Am Invincible fillies and a racy Magic Albert filly.
OZ Racing has also branched out into buying shares in imported stayers, including exciting
colt AU REVOIR (Gr.2 Zipping Classic and 8th Gr.1 Melbourne Cup); PAKAL (Listed
Cranbourne Cup); and COUNT OF LIMONADE (Listed Moe Cup). They recently also bought
into promising young German stayer NAPOLEON, who is trained in Sydney by Jarrod Austin.
"As people are getting to know and trust OZ Racing, we are gradually stepping up the
commerciality of our bloodstock in Sydney," said Jane. Regular and detailed trainer updates,
videos and photos, as well as stable / track visits and bi-annual 'Pat And Chat' breakfasts
ensure that OZ Racing's clients feel as much a part of the process as the 'big owners'.
Testimonials from Sydney Owners:
"I have bought shares in horses with many syndicators in the past
and Oz Racing sits at the top of the tree! Management and
communication is friendly, frequent and informative. The trainers
are approachable and honest, leaving you in no doubt of your
horses goals and abilities. Oz Racing's yearling and tried horse
selection is second to none. Try the OZ Racing experience - you
won't be disappointed." Phil Giles - correctweightracing.com.au
"We have a small interest in several horses with OZ Racing in
Sydney and are more than happy with how things have progressed
to date. They are managed by Jane, who is highly competent
regarding all things equine, is always on the ball with updates, pics
etc, and has been a pleasure to deal with from Day 1. We believe OZ
Racing genuinely has our interests at heart at all times, and we would highly recommend their syndications to
anyone keen to have an interest in racing." Neville & Lorraine Hopewell
"I am new to racing and researched for months before I settled on buying two fillies with OZ Racing. I have been most
impressed with them, and in particular Sydney representative, Jane Henning. With regular updates and meet the
trainer days, we are kept well informed of the progress of our horses. More importantly, the costs are reasonable and
kept to a minimum. A pleasure to deal with." Greg Hopcroft
"I commend Jane and Bruce for the great job OZ Racing does in running the syndications. The level of open honest
communication and quick responsiveness and friendliness is outstanding and I suppose I wouldn’t be “in” 5 horses if I
wasn’t convinced Oz Racing was a fun group to be involved in. The updates, photos, trainer comments and open days
are excellent for feeling involved. I also don’t know many others in the industry that would have taken a day out of
their schedule to show me around Warwick Farm as Jane did, and spend time with Jarrod at his stables (what a top
bloke). Looking forward to an exciting autumn!!" Brad Audet
