NEW FOR 2014
This year we are featuring a Scotland Music Showcase celebrating the richness
and diversity of Scotland’s traditional music. We are also paying tribute to the
first modern ruler of Ireland, Brian Ború Dalcassian. The Brian Ború Millennium
Celebration brings together genealogists, historians, music experts, bow makers
and chefs to present exhibits, lectures and demonstrations about the “Emperor
of the Irish.” As part of the celebration, four counties from Ireland: Tipperary,
Clare, Dublin and Armagh will be commemorating the Battle of Clontarf, which
took place in 1014 – 1,000 years ago this year.
Children’s Area: Take part in an archeological Viking Dig in the Brian Ború
area, watch brother and sister harpists in the Children’s Pavillion or learn
about banjo making.
Food & Spirits: Visit our new Cooking Demonstration Pavillion, The Celtic
Kitchen featuring Irish chef Donnagh Gregson. The tent is located on the
north end of the grounds. When you’re done, stop by a Jameson location
to sample a “Mighty Quinn.”
Sports: After you check out hurling, currach racing and tug-of-war in the
Sports Area, visit the Milwaukee Bucks and Milwaukee Wave on the north
end lake walk.
Entertainment: We’re always looking to enhance your entertainment
experience, so stop by the Miller Lite and Leinie’s stages to see our new,
super-sized video screens.

$5 Buck Friday 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. admission is only $5.
Kids 12 & under free. Regular admission prices after 5:30 p.m.
Saturday, August 16 – Noon to midnight
Sunday, August 17 – 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Free Admission: The South Gates will open at 8 a.m. Anyone donating
non-perishable food items by 11 a.m. (at the South Gate), will receive
free admission to the festival. Patrons are welcome to attend the Mass
beginning at 9:30 a.m. and will receive free admission immediately following.
Those donating food who choose not to attend the Mass will receive a
hand stamp valid for free entry at any time that day during regular festival
hours 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. All non-perishable food items will be donated to
Hunger Task Force.
College Day: $3 discount off admission 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. with valid
college student ID (all gates).
Military/Veterans Day: Free admission (+1 guest) for Veterans and
Military personnel. You must provide a valid proof of service at any
gate ticket window to receive your free tickets.
Have your hand stamped by Irish Fest gate officials and reenter the
festival grounds the same day free.
THE GATHERING, THE DAY
AND THE SCATTERING
Our Thursday evening Grand Hooley has become a special evening
for volunteers, sponsors and guests from around the globe.
This Irish tradition celebrates three stages of an event –
“The Gathering,”“The Day,” and “The Scattering.”
The Gathering (Friday)
celebrates the coming together of folks from all corners of the land.
The Day (Saturday)
is devoted to the celebration of anything from local saints and marriages
to sporting events and the evocation of folk rituals.
The Scattering (Sunday)
celebrates the parting of guests. On Sunday evening, entertainers from
the festival will come together for The Scattering, a special farewell to
this year’s festival, at 9:00 p.m. on the Aer Lingus Stage.

Milwaukee Irish Fest welcomes Bishop
Richard B. Higgins, the Vicar for Veterans
Affairs at the Archdiocese for Military
Services USA, as the celebrant for the
Liturgy for Peace and Justice. Bishop
Higgins was born in Longford, Ireland.
He is a graduate of the Pontifical Lateran
University in Rome and was ordained
a priest for the diocese of Sacramento,
California, March 9, 1968. Mass will begin
at 9:30 a.m. The Irish Fest Choir for Peace
and Justice will begin with a selection of
music at 9:00 a.m. Gates will open at 8:00 a.m.

Every year, Milwaukee Irish Fest highlights a unique aspect of Celtic culture.
This year, we are featuring a Scotland Music Showcase that celebrates
the richness of Scotland’s diverse traditional music. While many people
link Scottish music with the Highland bagpipes, it is so much more. There
are wonderful ballad, harp, and fiddle traditions that stretch back many
generations in Scotland. Scottish traditional music has remained vibrant
even as popular music flourishes in Scotland today.

Highlighted this year is the
Brian Ború Millennium
Celebration commemorating
the battle at Clontarf that
took place 1,000 years ago and
changed the future of Ireland.
The life of Brian Ború Dalcassian, Ireland’s first modern ruler, will be
presented through exhibits on history, culture, music and even food.
The program is being presented by Milwaukee Irish Fest in conjunction
with four counties – Clare, Tipperary, Dublin and Armagh. It’s the
only cultural exhibit of its kind in North America.
Presentations and demonstrations will take place in the Cultural Village
(Harp Stage, Hedge School, Literary Corner, Theatre Pavillion and Cultural
Exhibits Pavillion), Children’s Area, and the new Celtic Kitchen on the
North end of the Grounds. Programs include:

CULTURAL EXHIBITS PAVILLION
Journey to Medieval Ireland as the Cultural Exhibits Pavillion looks back to
1014 and Brian Ború’s Battle of Clontarf. This significant cultural presentation
features four Counties associated with Ború - Clare, Tipperary, Dublin, and
Armagh will have representatives presenting music, crafts, history, genealogy,
literature, and archeology in conjunction with the High King’s last battle.

New this year: Bite-size online Irish lessons and conversation circles for
beginners and advanced learners, Irish films to view/buy, Irish speakers to
help you practice and scholarship applications for immersion weekends.
OTHER CULTURAL VILLAGE HIGHLIGHTS
Discover and become a part of Irish art, literature, history, sports,
archaeology and theatre in the Cultural Village. The Hedge School features
lectures by noted Irish historians on Ireland’s first High King, Brian Ború.
Hear the beautiful sounds of the national symbol of Ireland, as it is played
by world renowned master Kim Robertson and Emer Mallon of the Armagh
Pipers Club at the Harp Stage. The Theatre features original and classic plays.

Celtic Roots stages and inside the Snug. Merchandise from artists will be
sold at the Music Mart closest to where they perform each day.
THE IRISH FEST STORE
Just past the rainbow and castle are
fun activities such as Lilli-Putt mini golf,
the Lego/Mr. Potato Head Area, crafts, Highland games and prizes at
the Pot o’ Gold. Also come explore the Children’s Cultural Area on the
playground, complete with a children’s tea room, the Irish Discovery Zone
and activities for the millenium celebration of Brian Ború. Our two stages
feature great family entertainment and demonstrations. See schedule

Located between the Aer Lingus Stage and the Miller Lite Stage, the Grafton
Marketplace features retail vendors in three separate buildings around a
quaint town square, while the Lilliput Marketplace, located on the North end
of the grounds, offers four large areas of retail vendors. You’ll find all of your
Irish memorabilia right here, one of the largest gatherings of Irish vendors
in the world!

TAKE A DAY TRIP TO IRELAND WITH YOUR PIRATE PADDY PASSPORT
The FREE Family Passport returns. It’s a fun way for families to explore Irish
Fest, while keeping the whole family entertained. Families collect stamps for
their Pirate Paddy Passports at stops throughout the festival grounds, while
making crafts or gathering prizes at each stop. Some of the areas families
will visit while on their quest are the Cultural Area, The Hurling Area, Celtic

GREENWISH VILLAGE
Explore the Power of Green! Use your personal power to pedal a bike to make
your own smoothie snack, examine a solar oven, and even make compost balls
in our Gaelic Garden. Games for kids also include Trash Art, Recycle Ring Toss,
and It’s a Wormy, Wormy World. Adults will love our “Green in Fifteen” talks
on a variety of topics including composting, gardening, and recycling.
“Green in Fifteen” talks happen half past every hour.
LEPRECHAUN VILLAGE
Liam the Extra Large Leprechaun invites you to visit the Leprechaun Village
located on the lake side of the Children’s Area. Learn the history and legends
of the “wee” people and their role in the cultural life of Ireland. Plus, see if
you can spot one!

CELTIC KITCHEN
Visit the Celtic Kitchen on the north end of the grounds throughout the
weekend as part of the Brian Ború Millennium Celebration. Donnagh
Gregson, Chairperson of Clare.ie cooks up fun, while tantalizing taste buds
with recipes that highlight traditional and modern Irish cuisine. Donnagh’s
background includes working in the very highest echelon of professional
cuisine in Europe. She has experience at AA Rosette and Michelin Star
restaurants and has also worked in training for three years prior to opening
the Bunratty Cookery School.
2014 PHOTO CONTEST
Ireland Photo Contest
Enter your photos of scenes or subjects taken in Ireland for a chance to win
a grand prize of $100. A total of nine prizes will be awarded in this year’s
contest. The contest is open during the festival beginning on Friday and
ending on Sunday. Photos must be entered at the contest booth located
inside the Archives Gallery in the Cultural Village. All photos will become the

FESTIVAL EXPERIENCE
Milwaukee Irish Fest’s Festival Experience Program provides young adults
from Ireland, Northern Ireland and Nova Scotia with an opportunity to
experience the planning and presentation of the festival. This year, three
young adults have been selected to work alongside festival organizers.
Throughout the ten days leading up to and during the festival, the festival
experience participants will work behind the scenes to learn and experience
the festival on all levels.

areas highlighting travel to the Emerald Isle. Travel Ireland, located south

WARD IRISH MUSIC ARCHIVES
THE MILWAUKEE IRISH FEST CHOIR
Founded 26 years ago by Ed Ward and Pat Moschea, the Milwaukee Irish
Fest Choir was created to enrich the love of Irish Music in young people. In
the last 26 years, over 1,000 young adults composed of students ages 14 to
20 have been a part of the choir. The Choir has traveled to Ireland several
times and has performed throughout the United States. Directing this year’s
two choirs is Brian McLinden with accompanist Leah Will. Visit the Tipperary
Stage for our festival performances. Be sure to purchase any of the Choir’s
CD’s and watch the choir as they carry the flags of Ireland in the parade.
NEW THIS YEAR Milwaukee Irish Fest is proud to present The Milwaukee
Irish Fest Children’s Choir with kids ages 7 to 12. See them perform at the

MILWAUKEE IRISH FEST SCHOOL OF MUSIC
In keeping with our mission to promote Irish music and culture, Milwaukee
Irish Fest is proud to sponsor the Milwaukee Irish Fest School of Music,
which opened in 2002 at the Milwaukee Irish Fest Center. A dedicated faculty
offers instruction to students of all ages in banjo, bodhran, cello, fiddle, flute,
guitar, harp, keyboard, tin whistle, uilleann pipes and viola. Fall classes begin
in September.
MILWAUKEE IRISH FEST FOUNDATION
The Milwaukee Irish Fest Foundation was
formed in 1993 to advance the charitable and
educational purposes for which Irish Festivals,
Inc. was originally formed. The Foundation
works to promote excellence and innovation
in Irish music and culture. It also supports the
special needs of the Irish and the Milwaukee
community, with particular focus on children,
the elderly, the poor and people with developmental disabilities.
Since its creation, the Foundation has granted more than $550,000
to nonprofit organizations in Wisconsin, the U.S. and abroad.
IRISH CULTURAL GRANTS
The Irish Cultural Grant was established in 1998. A yearly total of $2,000 is
available, dispersed in smaller grant amounts. Applications are reviewed once
a year in November. The purpose of the grant is to help fund needs for Irish
related projects. Applications accepted for individual projects/needs only.

Open to the public, the Archives promotes
and preserves Irish music in all its forms
through collected sound recordings and
reference materials. Materials include
albums, 45 & 78 rpms, cassettes, CDs,
songbooks, sheet music, photos of artists
and any items that relate to Irish and Irish
American music. Donate 10 or more Irish-related items
to the Archives and receive two free tickets to Milwaukee Irish Fest.
MILWAUKEE IRISH FEST SUMMER SCHOOL
Milwaukee Irish Fest Summer School is a summer school for all ages.
Held the week before Milwaukee Irish Fest at Milwaukee School of
Engineering (MSOE) the school offers classes in dance, song, music, crafts,
history, language and culture. Mark your calendar for August 10 - 14, 2015

ACADEMIC SCHOLARSHIPS FOR VOLUNTEERS
Milwaukee Irish Fest depends on its many volunteers to put together a
premier festival each year. To help recognize them and show its appreciation,
Irish Festivals, Inc. established scholarships for Irish Fest volunteers in 2002.
Up to five $2,000 postsecondary scholarships are awarded each year to

MILWAUKEE IRISH FEST CENTER
Since 1998, the Milwaukee Irish Fest Center at 1532 Wauwatosa Avenue
has housed the offices of Irish Festivals, Inc., the parent organization of
Milwaukee Irish Fest. The Center is home to the expansive Ward Irish
Music Archives and an Irish resource library. The Center also houses the
Irish Fest School of Music, and acts as a venue for family-friendly events
and performances year-round.
