A New Way to Bid
Bidding just got easier and more fun. With BidPal, you will place your bids on a handheld
device configured especially for Surf’s Up. Bids are transmitted electronically, so there
are no bid sheets. You can bid on an item from across the room or from one room to
the next. You can track your bids, view item descriptions, categories and more on
BidPal. You can set a maximum bid for an item, and BidPal will automatically bid you up
in increments. If someone outbids you, BidPal will let you know, and you can increase
your maximum bid. And if you are unsuccessful in bidding but still want to support the
Grace Church School Scholarship Fund, you can make a cash donation on BidPal!
Watch the BidPal tutorial on:

Message from the Chief Hotdogger
Kowabunga! We are excited to welcome you to the annual search for the perfect wave
of funds for the Endowment for Financial Aid. This year the beach is packed with hot
items ready for you to hang ten or more on. Whether you want to experience the thrill
of surfing live in the gym or prefer the quieter stroll on the silent auction beach there
will be something for everyone.
This year we will have the extra thrill of riding the virtual wave with our hand held
devices. It is going to be way cool, man. There will be the old favorites of the live auction
and I hope to avoid a major wipe out while doing my usual stunts.
The beach bar will be full of high-octane fun, to help bring out your inner Beach Boy or
Gidget complete with good vibrations and fun, fun, fun.
We should let it all hang out in congratulating the whole crew who has brought us to the
water’s edge. They have been hard at work clearing the beach and readying the bay for
the day that the waves roll in.
Now is the time to get on your board and take your paddle out into the deep water. It is
time to stand up and catch a wave for keeping GCS the leader in financial aid. Our
financial aid waves are two and three times the size of other JK-8 schools in the city
because of all that you have splashed through in the past. I can see another set of big
ones on the horizon, so get ready to ride. The surf is up for GCS. Be true to your school
and let the bidding begin!

overlapping lattice detail. With a
clear nod to its traditional roots, this
fanciful translation, combined with a
calming palate of cocoa and antique
oyster shell, will complement even
the most contemporary of settings.

Robert Crumb (b. 1943) emerged as a leading figure in the American underground
comic movement in the late 1960s and is widely acclaimed for skillful portraits and
satirical observations on contemporary society. His now landmark publication "The
Book of Genesis Illustrated" by R. Crumb (W.W. Norton) was published in October
2009. Chronicling all fifty chapters of Genesis, rendered frame by frame in meticulous
comic-book fashion, the momentous project received instant critical acclaim, topping
many bestseller lists, including #1 on the New York Times Graphic Books list. His
exhibition, "The Bible Illuminated: R. Crumb's Book of Genesis", comprises 207
individual black-and-white drawings incorporating every word from all fifty chapters
and is traveling between the Hammer Museum, Los Angeles; David Zwirner, New
York; the Portland Art Museum, Oregon; the Columbus Museum of Art, Ohio; the

Gourmet and Wine
800. 1982 CHATEAU MOUTON
ROTHSCHILD
Robert Parker rating 100.
Extraordinary. "Opaque
purple-colored showing no signs of
lightening and still tasting like a 4-5
year old Bordeaux, this wine will
evolve for another half century.
Cassis, cedar, spice box, minerals and
vanillin are all present. Robert Parker
feels that the 1982 Mouton is perfect
and perhaps capable of lasting for 100
years! Anticipated maturity:
2010-2075". Donated by GCS
grandparents John and Gilda
McGarry.
Est. Value: $1850
803. 2 BOTTLES 2000 ARAUJO
EISELE VINEYARD NAPA
VALLEY CABERNET
SAUVIGNON
Robert Parker rating 91. "This vintage
produced lighter wines, resulting in a
Bordeaux-like example of this cuvee.
After 22 months in oak, this textured,
perfumed Cabernet offers up aromas
of black currants, earth, and lilacs,
reminiscent of Chateau Margaux...
brilliant purity and balance."
Donated by GCS parents Chris
Panzcner and Maura Dickler.
Est. Value: $400
804. 2 BOTTLES 2005 KISTLER
CHARDONNAY
Steve Kistler's Burgundy-style

situated vineyards around Sonoma
County, have long been favorites
among wine collectors and restaurant
clients. Bottle 1: 2005 Vine Hill

94-96. Bottle 2: 2005 Durell

Est. Value: $670
802. 1998 CHATEAU LAFITE
ROTHSCHILD
Robert Parker rating 98.
Extraordinary. This opaque
purple-colored 1998 is close to
perfection. The spectacular nose of
lead pencil, smoky, mineral and black
currant fruit soars majestically from
the glass. This wine is elegant yet
profoundly rich, revealing the essence
of Lafite's character. The wine is
spectacularly layered yet never heavy.
The finish is sweet, super-rich, yet
impeccably balanced and long.
Anticipated maturity: 2011 - 2035.
Donated by GCS grandparents John
and Gilda McGarry.
Est. Value: $1200
805. 2 BOTTLES DRAM SELECT
21 YEAR OLD SINGLE MALT
SCOTCH
The Dram Select 21-year-old Single
Malt is reminiscent of a Glenfarclas,
but with an extra smoky touch. This
character seems to come from higher
toasting levels of the casks used for
this vatting. It has a definite sherry
wood character rather than one of
peat. Donated by GCS parents Ned
and Vicky Hurley.

807. 2005 CHATEAU CLIMENS
BARSAC
Robert Parker rating 97. "Its intensely
honeyed, golden apple and ripe peach
aromas are nicely complemented by
nutty notes of botrytis, and the wine's
thick, rich flavors follow perfectly in
suit. We very much urge you to let it
age into the layered perfection that
surely lies ahead." Donated by GCS
parents Ned and Vicky Hurley.

VINEYARD
Robert Parker rating 94. "The 2005
Chardonnay McCrea Vineyard
exhibits a light green/gold color as

CHARDONNAY MCCREA
VINEYARD
Robert Parker rating 93. "The
minerality is evident in virtually all of
these wines. It jumps from the glass
of the 2007 Chardonnay McCrea
Vineyard. This cool Sonoma
Mountain site offers up notes of
tropical fruit, honeysuckle, citrus
blossoms, and wet stones. It is
full-bodied, crisp, restrained, but
loaded with concentrated fruit and
long in the mouth." Donated by GCS

MICHAEL CHARDONNAY
MA BELLE FILLE
Robert Parker rating 96. "Filled with
notes of pineapples, honeyed melons,
nectarines, and white currants, it
reveals more toasty oak than its
siblings as well as a smoky, roasted
nut character. This full-bodied utterly
profound Chardonnay could easily
pass for a Batard-Montrachet from
France." Donated by GCS
grandparents John and Gilda
McGarry.
Est. Value: $375
817. 3 BOTTLES 2005 PETER
MICHAEL LES PAVOTS
Robert Parker rating 95. "A
sensational wine, with a style that
suggests a hypothetical blend of a
great St.-Emilion and Pomerol. It's a
terrific example of
non-interventionalist winemaking that
has turned out a beautiful,
silky-textured wine that should age
effortlessly for 15+ years." Donated
