Seattle Outboard Association
PIT PREVIEWS
Celebrating 87 years of Bringing Boat Racing
to the Pacific Northwest
June 2016
Sun and fun both shine at Kenmore
The annual Sammamish Slough
show was run in sunny weather
and turned out a variety of race
boats to entertain spectators
from Kenmore’s 68th St Bridge
to Log Boom Park.
Pictured below, Drew Thompson
giving Steve Greaves’ Hot-Rod
motor a good gallop.
Above: History imitates itself at Sammamish in the form of Flynn Peterson’s
J-Project Miss Wahoo, and an oldie but goodie outboard Miss Thriftway.
Below, Aaron Salmon and Nicole Dunlap double up in a Formula-E
Rubabout to put on a show for the spectators.
Meeting
Minutes
26 April 26/16
Activity Reports:
Stock:
Matt Yarno and Ron Magnuson
outlined Hinton Stock Mod Nationals – Tuesday they are planning a
history & “Taste of Regions” night.
If anyone going would like to bring
something tasty, please coordinate with Matt or Ron.
Thursday will be the qualifiers
banquet & the presenting club is
looking for auction items. Again,
please coordinate auction items
with Matt or Ron.
Mod:
(Daren) Ballot results – 750ccmr
weight is down to 450 lbs. MOD

rules. Next year drivers are eligible to vote only if they compete
in the class at a minimum of two
events (not days).
PRO:
Jim Nilsen reported All PRO ballot
items passed.
J-Classes: (Jim/Pat) Nothing new
on the national front. Locally, if
anyone wants to run an OMC-A
motor, as a prototype in AX, Pat
has some prototype restrictor
plates to test.
Race Updates:
l Oroville Speed Trials: Daren
Goehring reported 15 combined
1/4 mile & Kilo records were
set, with SOA members ac-
counting for 12 of those records.
Congratulations to Daniel Korpe,
Bob Wartinger, JW Myers, Daren
Goehring, John Peeters & Jim
Nilsen on their records.
l Kenmore Slough Event: Jan
Shaw Would like to thank everyone that helped make this years
Slough event a success. The local
group is already looking ahead &
inquiring about next years date.
The city, sheriff & marine patrol
were pleased. Everyone seemed
to have a good time.
l Castle Rock: Kyle Bahl told
members that Stock Winter Nationals are ready to go. For SO
Winter Nationals, any class over
12 entries (elims) will be scored
like SO Nationals…2 elimination heats (single points) & 2 final
heats (double points).
l Kitsap Lake: Dwight malhiot
noted CSH North American Championship. No camping (including
across the street) No dogs. Baymont Hotel has an SOA rate.
Newberg: 45SS Nationals
l Everett: (Jim) 20ssh North
American Championship. Good
to go, at this time just trying to
finalize a food vendor. Cullaby:
200ccmr North American Championship
l Monroe: Daren Goehring reported the race CANCELLED. We
might try again next year.
l Eatonville: Ron Magnuson
noted MOD Divisionals and Everything good. If you’re planning
on camping, please let Ron know
your plans.
l Lawrence: Jim Nilsen reported
DSH & 850ccmh North American
Championship. Rumor has it that
an invasive plant infestation at
the lake has been cleaned up/removed & we should be good to go
in the fall with our Lawrence Lake
race.

Sorenson Jackel J/AX/ASR region 10 high point
boat 57R. This is the boat with the eagle on the side.
It has served me very well and has performed well
at two nationals. This last year it had the 6th fastest
heat time of all boats run. Complete with weights,
fuel tank and transom parts for OMC, Mercury, Sidewinder. Reason for selling. This old man is slowing
down and the hydro is a smoother ride for me.
