Kitsap Lake Reborn at Camp McKean
Seattle Outboard Association PIT PREVIEWS Celebrating 87 years of Bringing Boat Racing to the Pacific Northwest July 2016 Kitsap Lake Reborn at Camp McKean It’s Baaaaaack!...Kitsp Lake’s finally returned to the SOA schedule after a few years off for a Navy redesign and rebuild of facilities. Camp McKean’s been regenerated with new buildings and bathrooms and a landscape & lawn rework that meant a revision for now in how we park and set up, but it all worked out very nicely. Multiple winners were Ryan Gowin - AX Runabout, AX Hydro and K-Pro Hydro. Kyle Bahl - C Stock Hydro and C-Stock Runabout, and Jamie Nilsen - C-Service Runabout and 350cc Hydro adding his name to the Will Paramore 350 Trophy, Weather wasn’t as cooperative though. Saturday was rainy, but race worthy and we ran the planned schedule with only a couple hold-ups to recover swimmers and boats. Sunday’s weather was clear and sunny but all the wind-gods were on hand to spoil the fun, and the racing was eventually called off. J-Hydro: 1. Trey Marquard Puyallup. WA 2. J Classes: Pat Gleason reported on an appeal, regarding a race back east…ran both days of racing on Saturday…anticipating a blow-off on Sunday (which happened) even though the circular did not state two days of racing on Saturday. The position of the J category was to say no to earning two sets of points on Saturday…being appealed. Race Updates: Castle Rock: Kyle Bahl noted Good racing & good weather, both days. Over 110 entries both days. We ran 3 Winter National classes, with Kyle Lewis winning two of them & J Michael Kelly winning the other. Kitsap Lake: Dwight Malhiot said we got in all racing for Saturday, but were blown-off Sunday. Sounds like everyone had a good time. Only negative, J Michael’s enclosed trailer was backed into. If anyone has any information on this, please contact J Michael, or a board member. Everett: Jim Nilsen said it’s moving forward. We will have concessions…later cancelled. Upper gate we be open early…pre 7am…but will be closed at 10am until we are done racing, per agreement with the Everett Parks. Numbers/Letters on Boats: Members are urged to read your APBA rules regarding boat numbers/letters. We don’t want to DQ racers for not following the rules. Any questions, please check with the inspector or referee. Blow off Coupons: Daren Goehring Called on racers to remember they need to ensure scorers & class reps know if they’re scratching before or after drivers meeting. We are looking at using blow-off coupons, rather than refunding money. Volunteers & post-race clean-Up: We need everyone’s help with volunteering & clean-up. We are all racers, but for us to have a successful event, we also need racers to help out in other capacities such as volunteering for other duties. Deoending on the same core of people over & over again should not be the standard. Kyle Bahl recommended labeling things (positions/spots) in the club trailer, so individuals (other minutes Continued on Page 3 minutes Continued from Page 2 than Howard) would know exactly where to store club equipment. Pre-Registration: Please pre-register on-line. Very simple, plus it allows us to set-up a race schedule in advance (based on pre-registration numbers) & build scorer’s sheets. Announcer Sheets for each Driver & Handbook: (Daren) Please fill out announcer sheets, so PA announcer can share your personal/racing information with the public. JMK Trailer hit at Kitsap: (Daren) See Kitsap Lake, above. Club Conduct: (rules/regulations to be enforced even more) (Daren) We need to tighten a few things up, especially regarding language & behavior…need to follow APBA guidelines regarding conduct. Read & understand your APBA rules + by-laws & work through your class reps. Underage drinking: Bottom line, no tolerance. Smoking of Marijuana: NOT allowed and Illegal in APBA. Again, no tolerance.
