12 steps to making marriage an art
– words of wisdom!
A GOOD MARRIAGE MUST BE CREATED
1 In the marriage, the little things are the big things...
2 It is never being too old to hold hands.
3 It is remembering to say “I love you” at least once each day.
4 It is never going to sleep angry.
5 It is having a mutual sense of values and common objectives.
6 It is standing together and facing the world.
7 It is forming a circle of love that gathers in the whole family.
8 It is speaking words of appreciation and demonstrating gratitude in thoughtful ways.
9 It is having the capacity to forgive and forget.
10 It is giving each other an atmosphere in which each can grow.
11 It is a common search for the good and beautiful.
12It is not only marrying the right person, it is being the right partner.

Simply stress free, from start to finish
An appointment will be made for you to meet your
wedding co-ordinator shortly after your arrival. All
aspects of your wedding will be discussed, starting
with how you will obtain your marriage licence and
moving onto any wedding extras that you require
such as photographs and flowers etc, through to
arranging your wedding reception. Finally, you will be
guided through the running order of events on the
big day itself.
necessary arrangements, leaving you free to sit back,
relax in the sun and look forward to enjoying your
wedding day.
PLEASE BRING WITH YOU ALL OF YOUR LEGAL
DOCUMENTS, TOGETHER WITH THE COMPLETED
PARTICULARS FORM WHICH YOU WILL FIND AT THE
BACK OF THIS BOOKLET.
Once you have received your letter, or at any other
time you have any questions, queries or concerns,
please do not hesitate to contact your wedding
co-ordinator who will be able to resolve these for
you and put your minds at ease.
If you have any concerns or specific requests, please
discuss these with your wedding co-ordinator, who
has the experience and contacts to make all the
Everything that is discussed at your initial meeting
and all wedding extras that you have requested
will be booked and confirmed by your wedding
co-ordinator. Once this has been arranged, you will
receive a letter detailing all the services booked, as
well as your wedding day timings and venues.
Obtaining your wedding licence
At the initial meeting your wedding co-ordinator will
check that you have all of the relevant documents
required in order for you to obtain your wedding
licence. Your wedding co-ordinator will then
complete the paperwork with you so that you are
prepared for your appointment at the Town Hall.
Please see page 9 for details about the required
documentation and what will happen at your town
hall declaration appointment.
page Thomas Cook
Your town hall declaration appointment
If you are not familiar with Paphos, it’s probably more convenient for you to take a taxi to the relevant town hall to
obtain your licence. Your hotel reception or wedding co-ordinator will be happy to arrange this transport for you.
Your wedding co-ordinator will meet you at the Town Hall and accompany you throughout the appointment.
The documents you will need to bring to the Town Hall are:
Passports
Spouse’s death certificate and marriage
Birth Certificates
certificate (if widowed)
Affidavits stamped and signed by a solicitor
You will also need to bring cash (285 Euros)
Original Decree Absolute (if divorced)
in local currency to pay for the licence.
Deed poll proof of name change (if applicable)
You will be asked to sign some paperwork. Firstly, a
declaration, which is similar to the affidavits you obtained
from your solicitor to say that you are free and single
to marry. The other is your particulars form (which will
have been re-typed in the Town Hall’s format). Please
check these very carefully for any mistakes. If any have
been made, then please correct and sign. It is vital that
the information on this form is correct, as this is the
information that will appear on your marriage certificate.
If you sign this form and it has incorrect information then
your wedding certificate will be incorrect and cannot
be changed. You will then be asked to hand over your
documents. The Town Hall will keep your original affidavits
/ decree absolutes for their files. You will then pay for your
licence. If you are having a Town Hall wedding, the licence
will be kept by the Town Hall. If you are having a church
wedding then a Certificate of Notification will be issued to
your wedding co-ordinator, who will then pass this to the
church. This will be given back to you on the day, along
with your marriage certificate. You will need two witnesses
for your wedding. They must be over 18 and witnesses may
be related to you. You will need to supply the full names
and passport numbers of each person. Don’t worry if you
don’t have anyone accompanying you for the wedding
as your wedding co-ordinator and a town hall or church
official can act as your witnesses.
Love is,
above all,
the gift
of oneself...

co-ordinator will show you the
area in which the ceremony
will take place and advise you
where you will be standing.
Paphos town hall
This venue offers a very fresh
and stylish wedding venue.
There are a choice of rooms to
be married in depending on
your numbers and the venue is
designed to suit all tastes. Built
in 1955 in Neoclassical style, the
Town Hall is located in the heart
of the old town of Paphos.
Yeroskipou town hall
The garden of Aphrodite, Yeroskipou town hall offers
either an outdoor or inside venue.
The most popular venue is the patio gardens with its
sea views allowing some spectacular pictures.
Peyia town hall
Situated in the heart of Peyia this is a truly stunning
outside venue with picturesque gardens, you will
truly have a wedding of style and with the gardens
in the background of your pictures it will be a venue
to remember. There are a number of tavernas and

Athena Beach Hotel
Hotel ceremonies are fast becoming the most
popular choice for our wedding couples. You can
arrange for your wedding to be held in any of
the hotels in the resort, in their gardens, on the
beachfront, or in their own chapels. Of course,
the main advantage is the simplicity of holding
your wedding ceremony in the same venue as your
reception and/or hotel accommodation. Whatever
your requirements, our wedding co-ordinator will
be able to discuss the best venues and options,
tailor-made to suit your every need.
Church
Your wedding co-ordinator will arrange an appointment for you to meet the Church
co-ordinator and Anglican Vicar who will be conducting your ceremony. You will have
a short interview with the vicar to establish your religious beliefs / backgrounds,
personalise the ceremony and run through the vows. With the Church co-ordinator you
will be able to discuss music choices for the ceremony. As the interview between you
and the church is confidential, your wedding co-ordinator will not be able to attend.
Regardless of whether you are having a church ceremony, you will still need
to obtain your licence from the Town Hall as detailed on page 9.

Ayia Kyriaki (St Paul’s Pillar)
This stunning church is set in the heart of Paphos. Built
around the 13th Century this charming Byzantine-style church
is one of the most popular venues for those opting for a
Church wedding. The church holds both Anglican and Catholic
wedding services and is easily accessible for wheelchair users.
Surrounded by ancient ruins and the story of St Paul, this
atmospheric setting guarantees ever lasting memories and
excellent photographs of a truly mediterranean wedding
experience. Venue will hold up to 120 guests.
St. George Chapel:
The picturesque St George Chapel is the
most requested church for weddings due
to its stunning and ornate interior frescoes.
Set on a small hill above the 5* St George
Hotel this scenic coastal venue offers
excellent photographic opportunities. Both
Anglican and Catholic denominations may
be married in the chapel and the venue
will hold up to 30 guests. The chapel is only
accessible by steps so we do not recommend
this venue for those with walking disabilities
St Barnabas’ Anglican Church is one of six Anglican
churches in Cyprus and is part of the Anglican Diocese of
Cyprus and the Gulf. The church building was established
at the beginning of the last
century and extended at
the beginning of this one!
It is an attractive stone
building. It seats about
120 people.

man and woman grow together in love and trust, they
shall be united with one another in heart, body and
mind, as Christ is united with his bride, the church.
The gift of marriage brings husband and wife
together in the delight and tenderness of sexual
union and joyful commitment to the end of their
lives. It is given as the foundation of family life in
which children are (born and) nurtured and in which
each member of the family, in good times and in
bad, may find strength, companionship and comfort,
and grow to maturity in love.

now that by your simultaneous consent which is
given publicly and formally in my presence and
in the presence of the persons now here, accept
each other as your lawful spouse and with the
confirmation of this fact by your signature you
contract a lawful marriage for all the purposes of
civil law.
You should further know that your marriage cannot
be dissolved during your lifetime except by a valid
judgement of a court. If either of you (before the
death of the other) contracts a marriage while this
one remains undissolved he/she commits the offence
of bigamy and is liable to the consequences provided
by the law.
TO BE REPEATED AFTER THE MARRIAGE OFFICER, FIRST THE GROOM FOLLOWED BY THE BRIDE:
“I CALL UPON ALL PERSONS HERE PRESENT TO WITNESS THAT I ................. ACCEPT YOU

MOMENTS OF JOY AND SORROW, WEALTH AND POVERTY, HAPPINESS AND UNHAPPINESS
THROUGHOUT OUR LIFE UNTIL DEATH DO SEPARATE US”.
As from this moment I pronounce you man and
wife. You are joined together by your free consent
in matrimony and you owe each other love, fidelity
and respect throughout your life. This marriage
constitutes the fulfilment of your life and links your
destinies on good and rainy days, in happiness and
unhappiness, in wealth and poverty, until death do
separate you.
Don’t worry about having to memorise YOUR vows as you
will repeat them after the marriage officer.
On the basis of equality you should face together all
the problems and all the difficulties of life. Together
you should shoulder the burdens of marriage each
one according to your possibilities. You have both the
right and obligation to take care of the upbringing
and education of your children so that they may
become useful citizens with free personalities”.
The giving of rings now takes place, followed by the
signing of your marriage certificates.
Thomas Cook Weddings | Cyprus Paphos & Limassol Edition
Your wedding day
Your wedding co-ordinator will be at the hotel before
the wedding to ensure that all arrangements are in
place and that everything is running to schedule.
Your wedding co-ordinator will also be on hand
should the bride need any assistance, such as helping
with dressing or fixing the veil, or dressing young
bridesmaids and/or page boys.
The flowers will already have been delivered to the
bride’s room and your co-ordinator will be available
to help anyone needing assistance with pinning
buttonholes / corsages etc. Your co-ordinator will
then make sure that the wedding party leaves on
time and will phone or visit the bride in her room to
let her know when the wedding car has arrived and
how long she has left to get ready before she needs
to leave.
The co-ordinator will then travel to the wedding
location to help with the seating of the guests and
making sure that the groom and best man are in
position before the bride arrives. The marriage
officer/minister/vicar will start the ceremony. You
will be asked to exchange your vows, which you will
repeat after the marriage officer/minister/vicar. The
groom always takes his vows first and then the bride.
You will then exchange rings, again first the groom
and then the bride. Now you must sign three copies
of your marriage certificate, one copy goes with
you on the day, one stays at the Town Hall / Church
for their records and the third copy gets sent to the
Ministry of Interior in Nicosia, who will register your
marriage with the British Embassy.
You are now husband and wife! After any
photographs that you have arranged to be taken
outside the venue, your wedding co-ordinator will
leave you to enjoy your reception with your friends
and family. Don’t worry though, in the unlikely event
that you have any problems with your reception,
your co-ordinator will be just a phone call away.

Wedding do’s and don’ts
How to make the most of your wedding day
DO splash out on the things you simply can’t
do without.
DON’T forget to arrive in style in a beautiful
wedding car or local vintage bus.
DON’T ask a friend or relative to take your wedding
photos. Your wedding photos are the biggest
reminders of your wedding day so hire a professional.
DO alter the custom of giving away the bride to
suit your situation.
DO choose a bouquet that compliments your
wedding colour scheme. The bouquet is important
as an accessory but it shouldn’t overpower your
wedding dress.
DON’T go for a completely different look on your
wedding day. Your man loves the way you are so
keep your make-up natural.
DO pick a cake to suit your taste buds. More
couples are choosing flavoured sponge cakes,
such as rich chocolate.
DON’T get sunburnt! Temperatures in peak season
can reach as high as 40 degrees, but it can often feel
lower due to the cool coastal breezes.
DO take time to soak up the atmosphere with your
new husband or wife. Distance yourself from the
party for a couple of minutes at various intervals to
reconnect and simply enjoy basking in the limelight
of your special day.
DO take advantage of your wedding co-ordinator’s
knowledge and expertise so that you can feel
confident that your day will run smoothly and
totally stress free.
FINALLY
DON’T FORGET TO SMILE AND REMEMBER WHAT THE
OCCASION IS REALLY ABOUT. THE WEDDING DAY CAN
PASS QUICKLY, BUT ULTIMATELY YOU ARE GETTING
MARRIED BECAUSE YOU LOVE EACH OTHER AND
YOU CAN’ T WAIT TO SPEND THE REST OF YOUR
LIVES TOGETHER.

We have compiled an impressive list of wedding extras,
all of which are detailed on the following pages.
You can be confident that the suppliers we use have been
selected for their expertise, professionalism, excellent
customer service and competitive prices.
You do not have to worry about collecting flowers or cakes,

The price of love
We know that you can’t put a price on love, but paying for your dream wedding can be costly. A wedding in the
UK is significantly more expensive than in Cyprus, so combining your wedding and honeymoon on this beautiful
Mediterranean island makes perfect sense, romantically and financially. The table below highlights the savings on
wedding extras in Cyprus compared with the same services in the UK.

Picture perfect
You are certain to take home some fantastic photographs,
which will make your big day even more memorable.
Your wedding day is one of the happiest days of your
lives so you’ll want to capture your memories on film
and relive the experience for many years to come.
We can arrange for a professional photographer to
meet you at your chosen wedding venue and take
photographs before, during and after the ceremony.
If you book a photography package that includes
your hotel wedding reception, photographs will be
taken in the hotel garden area, followed by your
champagne toast and the cutting of the cake. If you
are holding your reception in an alternative venue,
such as on a private yacht, your chosen photography
package will include the photographer accompanying
you there.
The photographer will take more prints than
you have ordered so that you may select your
own personal favourites for your album. The
photographer will follow a set programme of
photography, but if there are any specific pictures
that you would like taken on the day, ie, with certain
friends or family, or in a favourite location, please
do not hesitate to ask. The photographers are very
flexible and happy to accommodate your wishes
DVD
The cameraman will meet you at your chosen wedding
location and will follow the same routine as the photographer.
The video usually lasts approximately 30–45 minutes,
depending on the type of wedding and number of people
attending. The DVD will be delivered with your photographs
after it has been edited and music added. If you would like any
specific music on the video then this can be arranged (if you
do not have the relevant track, ask your wedding co-ordinator).
If you want extra copies for family and friends these can also
be arranged and will be delivered with your final order.
- after all, it’s your day and your memories that
you’ll want to cherish forever.
The photographer will arrange to meet you the day
after the wedding to show you the proofs. From
these proofs you will need to select the chosen
quantity booked in your package and these will be
enlarged for your wedding album. If you require
any additional photographs apart from the ones
arranged, or enlargements, then this can be arranged
directly with the photographer. You will also be given
the option to buy all the proofs and / or CD. The
proofs will be left with you for a day or two, then the
photographer will collect the order, make it up and
will then deliver your photographs and album back
to your hotel so you can make up the album to suit
your preferences. The photographs will be delivered
to you before you leave, however at busy times it
could be late in the evening the night before you
go home.

Beautiful bouquets and buttonholes
Beautiful fresh flowers are
available in Cyprus all year round
and we have put together a
wide selection for you to choose
from for your bridal bouquet,
buttonholes and bridesmaids
flowers. Your wedding coordinator will be able to show you
pictures of bouquets and advise you if you are not
sure which type or style to choose.
If you have something specific that you would
like, then please do not hesitate to ask or, even

better, provide a picture of what you have in mind
so that we can find out from the florist whether it is
available in Cyprus. We can generally get any colour
of flower that you require but, if we can’t, then the
florist will spray them for you! The flowers will be
delivered to your hotel by the florist a couple of
hours before the wedding.
We can also arrange flowers for your reception venue
and standing arrangements for the wedding location,
as well as gift bouquets and flowers for your hair.
page 23 Thomas Cook
The choice is yours, but however you choose to travel, you’re certain to
arrive in comfort and style...
Cars and carriages
The traditional bridal car in Cyprus is an air-conditioned
Mercedes decorated with ribbon, but there are a number of
alternatives from which to choose. You could make the most of
the wonderful climate by travelling in a horse-drawn carriage
or, for that extra wow factor and the ultimate in style, you could
be ‘millionaires for the day’ in a luxury Rolls Royce!
Your wedding co-ordinator can also arrange transport for your
family and friends. This could be by taxi, minibus, coach or, for
a truly Cypriot feel, why not book a vintage village bus? Your
guests will love the out-of-the-ordinary experience and it will
lend a real sense of tradition to your Mediterranean wedding.
Thomas Cook Weddings | Cyprus Paphos & Limassol Edition
The icing on the cake
After the ceremony the wedding party usually
departs for the hotel or reception venue for
photographs, a champagne toast and, of course,
the cutting of the cake.
The cakes are generally white in design and
decorated with a bride and groom or a floral
decoration. If you have brought your own
decoration then please give this to your wedding
co-ordinator who will arrange for this to be put
on the cake for you.
You can choose from either
sponge or fruit cake, in a
choice of one or two tiers.
You could even have one tier
fruit and one tier sponge.
For something a little bit
different, there is also the
option of a chocolate
sponge cake.
page 25 Thomas Cook
Hair and beauty
Most hotels include hairdressing salons for their
guests and will be happy to style your hair for you
on your big day. If you’re unsure about the abilities
of the salon in your hotel, speak to your wedding
co-ordinator who will be able to advise you on their
level of service.
We also work with reputable hairdressers who are
UK trained and have over 15 years’ experience in
wedding designs and styles. For your ease and
convenience, our stylist will come to your room on
the morning of the wedding, leaving you more time
to relax, get ready and add those finishing touches. If
necessary, a trial appointment can be arranged prior
to the event. If you require, we can also schedule
an appointment for a beautician to apply your
make up after your hair is finished.
We can also book hair appointments for the groom,
bridesmaids and any other members of your
wedding party. Please ask your wedding
co-ordinator to book the appointments for you,
as they can be limited during peak season.
If you or any member of your party would like to
have their nails done, we can also arrange this for
you. Services available are acrylic/gel nail extensions,
manicures and pedicures.

Reception venues and options
No receptions are too grand or too
modest to arrange. Some couples choose
to have a simple affair with canapés and
champagne, others like to have a buffet
or sit down meal, with an inclusive bar
and waiter service. Various entertainment
options can also be arranged.
entertainment to finish your reception in
taste and style.
Your wedding co-ordinator will be able
to show you menus and discuss all your
requirements with you at your initial
meeting and make recommendations.
YACHT RECEPTIONS
If you fancy something truly special to
make your reception an event to remember
(without breaking the bank), you could
charter your own private yacht from
Exclusive Yacht Weddings.
Sophies
There are a number of excellent venues
for your wedding reception, but for pure
convenience as well as some wonderfully
idyllic settings, we recommend that
you hold your reception within your
hotel. Whether it is a 2* or 5* hotel, the
management will ensure that you and
your guests receive a warm welcome and
a first class service.
This can be as simple or as extravagant as
you like, and the cost will vary depending
on what you choose. Sunset, coastline or
firework cruise; finger buffet or 5-course
meal – it’s up to you. Your wedding
co-ordinator will be able to discuss your

gSituated in Kato Paphos, this is an excellent
venue with a magical feel and the opportunity to
have a totally exclusive reception.
There are many excellent hotel venues to choose
from and we work with all of them. Please ask us for
more information.
In general though, its advisable to book your
reception venue well in advance as the popularity of
Cyprus as a wedding destination means that many of
the best venues get booked up well in advance.

The chimney sweep
If a Chimney Sweep meets a Bride and Groom at
their wedding, it is a very good omen for their future, especially if he wishes them good luck, so
why not get your life together of to a good start with a visit from Dave, the Lucky Chimney Sweep!
A genuine working Chimney sweep, he will attend the Church or the Reception in full sweep’s
regalia and will appear whilst the song “Chim chimney Chim Chimney” is playing. He will shake
hands with the Groom and receive a kiss from the bride then recite a poem and wish the bride
& groom good luck for the future. The bride & groom will then be presented with a framed copy
of the poem and a miniature sack containing a piece of lucky coal, bread and salt. The guests
