And I REALLY would love to have the chance to tell each of you—individually if needed—how you NEED to utilize your membership to enhance your business plan. The Chamber can work magic for you if you simply learn how to work your membership. As you have heard, getting personally involved—by attending our events or committees - is almost a guarantee of success. And I mean a guarantee!! However, if you are in the “I don’t have time to attend the events” category, there are still dozens of benefits you can receive for the incredibly reasonable annual membership. So, as you are getting ready for 2016—PLEASE contact Ted at the Chamber and schedule a one-on-one consultation on how to use this Chamber magic. Think of the Chamber staff as Personal Trainers who are going to customize your exercise plan to promote your business and increase your success. I will be pleased to sit in and share my own personal success stories—and I will bring the donuts. Information about all FWB Chamber events at www.FWBChamber.com Coastlines is a publication of the Greater Fort Walton Beach Chamber of Commerce 34 SE Miracle Strip Pkwy., Fort Walton Beach, Florida 32548 Ph 850.244.8191 Fax 850.244.1935 Submit information to Eppi Azzaretto [email protected] In the upcoming months I will be thanking all of the committee chairs and board members who assisted me in my year. I will even have the chance at the January 2016 Annual Banquet to hand out a couple of Teddy awards for those who really impacted my year of fun. However this article is geared to that Chamber member who I don’t know—and who might not be utilizing YOUR chamber membership as much as you could/should. I want to thank ALL Chamber members for your membership. My theme for this year is Keep Moving Forward—and I hope that you have found that to be our mission. I have met so many new friends—and those who have helped me achieve our mission at The Arc of the Emerald Coast. And for these friendships I will be forever grateful. For your business to continue to Keep Moving Forward—please remember that YOUR Chamber is here for you. My Best, L.A. Find out how to make the most of your Chamber Membership! AT&T Donates $4,000 to United Way of Okaloosa-Walton Counties For over 60 years, AT&T and the AT&T Foundation have been strong supporters of the United Way both at the national and local levels. Today, AT&T continues this legacy of support through a contribution of $4,000 to United Way of Okaloosa-Walton Counties. In 2015 alone, AT&T gave $5.17 million to 550 local United Ways across the country. “AT&T shares United Way’s commitment to strengthening communities and improving lives,” said Ray Walker, AT&T Regional Director for External Affairs. “The United Way of Okaloosa-Walton Counties support for programs with proven results in our community improves the lives of our citizens by connecting them with resources and expertise that helps them succeed.” “AT&T shares United Way’s commitment to strengthening communities and improving lives,” Preston Hood Chevrolet Employees Donate to Children In Crisis Employees of the month Keith King and John Ross Summers of Preston Hood Chevrolet donated their incentive checks totaling $200 to Children in Crisis. The Best Western Fort Walton Beachfront Receives Florida Green Lodging Program Designation saving “green” practices that reduce waste and conserve natural resources. The Florida Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) welcomes the Best Western Ft. Walton Beachfront Hotel to the Florida Green Lodging Program. The voluntary state initiative provides the lodging industry with free technical assistance, encouraging hotels and motels to adopt cost- “It is wonderful to see businesses implement green practices such as water conservation, recycling and energy reduction because they are not only good for business, they are good for Florida’s environment,” said DEP Sustainable Initiatives Director Deas Bohn. To become a designated member of the Florida Green Lodging Program, ho- tels must implement a variety of green practices. These practices include, but are not limited to, water conservation measures through low flow plumbing fixtures, a linen reuse program, and energy efficiency achieved by installing ENERGY STAR® appliances and programmable thermostats. The waste reduction criteria are met by providing the opportunity to recycle, purchasing items in bulk, purchasing recycled materials and by recycling ink and toner cartridges. All designated properties must also use green cleaners and high efficiency air filters. “We are so proud to be part of an initiative that helps conserve our natural resources. In addition to the above practices our lights that surround our pool area are designed not to interfere with sea turtle and other wild life; it’s a safe place for them to lay their eggs. Every April we do a company-wide “Earth Day program” and our employees participate in beach clean-up on a daily basis”, said Toni Richardson, Director of Sales and Marketing. September2015 | www.fwbchamber.com | The Official Publication of the Fort Walton Beach Chamber of Commerce | 7 continued United Way of Okaloosa and Walton Counties Trains 45 Loaned Executives as 2016 Campaign Representatives Bob Hope Village in Shalimar hosted 45 executives on loan from local businesses July 28th and 29th as they began their campaign representative duties for the 2016 United Way of Okaloosa and Walton Counties Campaign. “I once was a Loaned Executive (LE) and it can be both a fun and challenging experience,” said Betty Brassell, Vice President with First City Bank and 2015 United Way Campaign Chair. “As a United Way LE, you learn a lot about your community and about yourself but most importantly, you quickly realize you’re working on behalf of every Okaloosa and Walton County resident to help fund more than 40 critical health and human service United Way Partner Charities.” board of directors heard from both sides and then deliberated on the merits of each of their proposals. United Way will officially unveil this year’s goal at an event on August 27th. Once again the goal is expected to be an increase over last year’s $1,225,121 total which, in itself, was a 6.4% increase over 2013. In its 59 year history, the local independent United Way has raised more than $50 million. United Way’s Vice President for Resource Development, Ronda Davenport, said, “It’s a lot of money to raise, but our goal really is to ask everyone with a job here in Okaloosa and Walton Counties to pledge an hour’s pay per month for one year. If we could do that, we could raise $19 million, so we’re really only reaching a small percentage of employees with our message. We’d never be able to get even that message out without the volunteer help of our Loaned Executives. If you’re a local business owner or manager and want to give your employees an opportunity to learn about our local United Way and to say ‘yes’ or ‘no’ to supporting it with a payroll deduction pledge, call me at 243-0315. I’ll send one of our Loaned Executives out to meet with you and make it happen!” United Way’s goal setting process requires input from its two major volunteer committees: the folks who put the dollars to use in the community (the Funds Distribution Committee) and the folks who raise the money (the Annual Campaign Cabinet).
