The purpose of the program is to recognise and reward staff who go above and beyond in their jobs and make a real difference to the residents, staff and the organisation. The nominations received were wonderful and there were many that said that the team did such a wonderful effort that it was impossible to single out a particular staff member. What a reflection on the staff in the Organisation! Nicole Mackintosh George Iles 5 STAFF NOMINATIONS Banksia Maria Wiedemann Shelly Hall Jacqui Seabrook Boronia William Bawgana Hakea Kylie Miller Staff Member of the Year As voted by staff Nicole Macintosh RESIDENT NOMINATIONS Acacia Sheryl McPherson Administration Helen Mathieson Banksia Chris Crawford Boronia Maggi Dighton Grevillea Jo Williams Hakea Kaye Lenon Maintenance & Gardening Sean Davidson Waratah Muna Riches Staff Member of the Year As voted by Residents and their Families George Isles 6 Rosalee Davis Retires after 21 Years I regretfully announce that Ms Rosalee Davis the Care Manager of Waratah Lodge has retired after 21 years of loyal service. Rose will be sadly missed by all as over her 21 years of service she has truly enriched and made a difference to the lives of residents at Shepparton Villages and more specifically at Waratah Lodge. Rosalee’s journey at Shepparton Villages was one of dedication, compassion and drive. Rosalee commenced as a Personal Care Worker and through years of hard work rose to become a Care Manager. This was only possible due to her commitment to further education, persistence and drive. As I reflect on her time within the organisation it is Rose’s deep commitment and advocacy to our resident’s that stands out. She was tireless in her efforts to ensure that resident’s rights were respected and her work with families has been outstanding. For this reason I believe that our past and present residents and their families will be forever grateful for her passion in making a difference to their lives. The Board, management, staff and residents of Shepparton Villages wish to congratulate Rosalee on her achievements and sincerely thank her for “Enriching the Lives of the People in our Care” over the past 21 years of dedicated service. In closing all of us at Shepparton Villages wish her good health and happiness in her retirement. Kerri Rivett CEO 7 TARCOOLA VILLAGE, SUPPORT GROUP & BUS TRIPS Hi everyone, how quickly the year is flying by, and there is so much happening every week here in the village and in our outside interests as well. when she greeted you. Judging by the presents and flowers she received at her farewell and the many people that had travelled long distances to say goodbye, she was a well respected part of the village family. Elaine Tepper Vicki Glazner Things have changed in the Administration office of the village over the past few months, with us farewelling a few of our friendly and capable staff members. Firstly, Vicki Glazner after many years of service in the Marketing Department will be greatly missed. I (being a fairly new resident) didn’t get to know her very well, but I will always remember her beautiful smile Also, Elaine Tepper having retired “after 20 years of dedicated and committed service to Shepparton Villages” will also be greatly missed as she really had her “finger on the pulse” for all those years at the front Admin office. Also we will miss the smiling face of Lyndel from the Marketing Office. Lyndel Ash 8 And now we welcome Christine Davies as ‘the new face up front’ at the Admin Office, and she has already settled in there very well from all reports. Hope it all goes well for you Christine. back in 1990 and meet the Board of Management. The oldest resident at Waratah Lodge Mrs. Fonce Young, had the honour of cutting the cake. Entertainment with the Ukulele band and songsters was really great, and the afternoon tea was scrumptious! Christine Davies Congratulations to all those who organized the 25th Anniversary celebrations of Waratah Lodge at Rodney Park on Friday 3rd July. It was a lovely day, and it was very interesting to hear of the ‘beginnings’ of Rodney Park Fonce Young Cutting the cake for the 25th Anniversary celebrations 9 The Chef’s luncheon is another good day on the Calendar, with Geoff always having a nice roast and ‘surprise’ dessert. We had 33 at Tarcoola on Wednesday 16th September. Some from Rodney Park attended as well. On Friday 29th August we celebrated Mim Guilfoyle’s th 100 birthday at the Activities Centre. How good did she look!! She celebrated in style with a card and message from the Queen, also the Governor General and the Prime Minister. Not too many can say they have received all those messages, and let’s face it, we have to get to 100 first, before we receive all the congratulations. The afternoon tea made by her two grand-daughters was amazing. We continue to get fairly good numbers for our sausage sizzle having an average of about 35, considering we have just been through Winter, and about the same for Pie/Pastie Day. We have a very good team of 11 on our Support Group and we get the work done together. If anyone has any comments to make please see Geoff P or myself. The Support Group discussed at our last meeting what we could serve up for a change of menu. It was decided we put 10 together a flyer with different types of meals and ask residents to tick what they would like to have. This flyer has been sent out and a good number have been returned, so we will decide at our next meeting what action we will take. We have Support Group meetings at 10.00 a.m. before sausage sizzle each month. Our Christmas Dinner (night) will be on Wednesday 9th December, 2015 at the Activities centre at 6 p.m. for 6.30p.m. meal. Edie has collected some names at our last sausage sizzle, and will try and get around to everyone by the end of October. We need 40 people for us to get the meal at $20 per head. The meal will consist of Roast (3 meats), roast vegetables, and cauliflower and white sauce, and gravy and then Christmas pudding or fruit salad, and tea and coffee all for the cost of $20. (AND no dishes to do!). The drinks will be supplied by the Support Group. We have Mick Tenace coming with his own music to entertain with some good “golden oldies” songs, so it should be a great night. See Edie to put your name down if you haven’t already. (5821-5708) At this point I would like to thank the bus drivers who drive the bus to IGA each fortnight. I have been told you need to be at the bus by 10 a.m. sharp, as they leave on time !! Let someone else know you are going, so you don’t get left behind, as someone did one day. 11 There is also Cards and Rummicub at the Activities Centre. I’m sure the group that go would love to see a few new faces. Exercise Classes are still having good numbers turning up on Monday’s, Wednesday’s and Friday’s. Great to get out of the house for a little while and get some exercise and then have a cuppa and chat with your friends. Happy Hour on Thursday’s is very social, and we enjoy a drink and nibbles, and a good laugh with some jokes, and a catch up of any sickies in the village or who is on holidays. TRIPS We continue to have 3 buses go each month on our trips. We didn’t do anything in July as it was just too cold. Our August trip saw us travel to Glenrowan, Wangaratta and the Winton Wetlands. At Glenrowan we went to Billy’s tea rooms, where Linda looked after us really well with lovely warm scones, jam and cream. They were the biggest scones I think I have ever seen, almost 12 the size of 2. Then we went next door to Kate’s cottage, a lovely presented gift shop with so many different things on display, then out the back to the Ned Kelly museum and the original house and stables. Lots of memorabilia. views. They directed us to where we would get the best views, and it really was hard to imagine that all this area was once a lake, as the trees that are there now would have all been covered by the water. We then strolled around the other shops which had antiques op shops, needlework etc. It is such a lovely touristy spot only an hour and a quarter from Shepparton and well worth a look. We then went on to Wangaratta to the Sydney Hotel, and had lunch there. The food was great! On September 26th we went on a local trip to the Chocolate Apple, then out to Emerald Bank for morning tea, and a look around the dozen shops and businesses there, then on to Tatura for lunch, and we finished up at the Tatura War Museum for some interesting views, and afternoon tea. Well that’s about all the news this time. After lunch we headed to the Wetlands. There is a new café just opened there, and lovely Edie Poliness Tarcoola News, Secretary/Treasurer Support Group, and Trip Co-ordinator 13 HAKEA LODGE Welcome back one & all hope you are all fighting fit. We would like to welcome all our new residents, Mr. David Kane, Mr. Maurie Geary, Mr. David & Mrs. Isabell Townsend, Mrs. Joy Withers, Mrs. Joan O'Connor & Mr. Ron Freeman. We wish you all the best and hope you settle in well. see you at some of our activities. We would love to And also a warm welcome to Helen who will be working at Hakea as a Lifestyle & Leisure staff member. 14 We have had various bus outings over the last few months with the first going to a luncheon held by the CWA at the end of July, in which we scored well with the raffle prizes. Joyce Baker won 1st Prize (a lovely quilt) as well as another prize. Ethel Jackson won two prizes. Trine won some Port & Plum spread she was hoping to get and our volunteer for the day, Vel Haliday, won a prize too! Many of the prizes of the day where donated by the local Apple Factory. The CWA provided a lovely spread of homemade foods which was enjoyed by everyone who attended and nobody needed dinner that night. We had a successful outing to the R.S.L. Club for Senior Melodies, the entertainer for the day was Anthony Tenace, a local singer. One of our staff members took some of our residents on a scenic tour of Shepparton to see some of the local sights and some of the changes that have been made over the years. On the way home they called in to the "Golden Arches" for a soft serve ice cream, which was enjoyed by all. 15 At the end of September we had a bus trip to the Shepparton Senior Citizen club rooms. We joined in with their celebrations of their 57th birthday where the Senior Citizen Club reopened after some greatly appreciated renovation. The special event was attended by a number of local councillors including the Mayer Dennis Paterson. The entertainment provided plenty of laughs and songs, and great afternoon tea was enjoyed. A trip the following month to the SCC was enjoyed too, especially when one of our Lifestyle & Leisure staff joined the band on stage with a local New Zealand song. Unfortunately the cameras were left at home; much to the L&L staff member relief! Our latest trip was for a B.B.Q lunch at a Caniambo Farm - which residents were able to pat a horse and dogs. We had an afternoon entertainment by 'The Wattle Warblers'. There are 4 singers in the group and they sing old time melodies. Our residents joined in and sang along with the group. Hakea Lodge, along with The Men's Shed held a Fathers Days raffle. First prize was a 'Shell Art Hanging'. This was made and donated by Robert Johnson and won by Bert Frik, second prize was a 'Knitted Rug' made and donated by Mrs. Betty Bromley, along with several 'Coat-hangers' covered by 16 Tilly Czech - this was won by Rita Casey. For third prize Patricia Anderson won a box of chocolates which was shared with her visiting family. Thank you to our residents and families for participating in the fundraiser. Funds raised were divided between the Hakea Craft group and The Men's Shed. Footy Tipping We ran our Footy tipping again this Football season and the scores where very close with Pam Senior winning 1st Prize with a total of 137pts. 2nd Prize was won by Dick Frizzel with 135pts and Doug Laffy won 3rd Prize with 134pts. To celebrate the end of the football season a B-B-Q lunch was held and a handball game in the afternoon. We would like to thank our volunteer helpers Gwen Wallace, Jan James, Leigh James, Jonathon Sullivan (Rupert & Chester) and Peter Beyer for assisting with the wonderful lunch. Gwenda & Kevin - Lifestyle and Leisure Therapists. 17 ACACIA HOUSE Hello to all, Firstly I would like to thank Lorraine & Kerrie who worked tirelessly while I was on annual leave overseas. Once my albums are finished I will be able to show and talk on many places, as most resident have forbearers who came to Australia leaving their homeland behind. Frank Firman volunteer Bill's hair cutting We have many welcomes, Gail has returned home to Acacia. Angela has joined our team with Jane, Liz and Kate. Rupert and Chester are still delighting our residents with their weekly visits. Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth would be in awe with their mannerism. Thank you Joho for your time. Bill is away on holidays but before he left Frank gave that special trim. What a priceless photo showing his concentration and cutting technique has never left this talented barber! Our special morning tea saw our residents select their own topping for pizza morning. This was a joyous time. Now they would all like to be pizza chefs. Our Footy Tips was a huge success, with residents watching their teams throughout the year. 1st Cecil Musgrove, 2nd Joan Morrow, 3rd Heather Steen. Our 18 Staff and Family Draw: 1st Thelma Williams, 2nd Vicki McInnes, 3rd Bill Webster. Harry was our scorer and guide during the season. Harry does a fantastic job. Thank you for your time. Our regular musicians, Frank, Dennis, Janis, Glenda, Marie and Jeanette, Sam and Rosa are so dedicated in giving their time to entertain our residents. It’s a pleasure to hear and see the sing-along and tapping to the beat. Jackie’s husband, Collier and his Big Brass Band The Splinters, entertained us one afternoon and we are hoping this will become a regular visit. Thank you to Collier and his friends. return from travelling to see her family. Our numbers are still growing with St Brendan’s Rosary Group 10am Tuesday morning. Thank you to Kathy and Carmel. Congratulations to our two staff members who gave birth on the same day. Bec delighted us with a handsome bouncing baby boy, while Rajni a tiny little princess. Welcome also to our new nursing staff. We look forward to your company and input into Acacia. Our Bingo Ladies get up to many perks even though it should be quiet, you can hear the jokes flowing. John and Norma return the banter. Our ray of sunshine, Tim, will be attending classes in Melbourne to attain his Div 1. Our best wishes go with him. Tim will still be working at Acacia on weekends. Our residents were delighted to see Elaine our Bob’s Volunteer Marg, Lorraine, Kerrie, Gail and Angela. 19 Men’s Shed With the weather warming up BBQs are once again being enjoyed at the Shed and lunches have been taken outside (testing out our new caps). Display Room The Men’s Shed has now set-up a display room of items for sale at the Shed. So come and have a gander at our wears and get in and do your Christmas shopping (did I just mention Christmas in October? There should be some kind of law against that! ). Opening times are: Wednesday & Fridays 10:00am – 1:30pm. Projects: We assisted Banksia with their “Yarn Booming” of a push bike by turning it into a garden feature; adding soil to the pots and planting some strawberries (see pictures for details). 20 The continuation of refurnishing of some old 80’s style push bikes has being going quite well with the completion of a now hot red boys BMX. A bet was underway with Tex & I, that if he was able to fix the bike (which was in quite poor shape, so I thought I would be safe) I would ride a lap around the Shed on it. This brought a couple of chuckles to the fellas! Woodwork orders have been coming in quick and steadily ready for Christmas presents this year, which are keeping our master Craftsmen busy. Gardening: Spring is in full bloom and the vegetable garden is looking delicious with a harvest of Garlic, Spring Onion, Radishes and Peas have already been picked. The Rainbow Spinach is up giving us a variety of colour and the Strawberries are in full flower ready soon for some yummy picking. Tomatoes are in and we’re hoping to have more luck with them this year. This Potato season we are trying some experimentation by growing them in stacks of tyres filled with various materials – one in traditional soil/compost; one of straw/hay and one in shredded paper. We’ll let you know the results in the next issue of the Village Voice. 21 Bus Trips: July was our Mystery Bus trip which took as for a relaxing trip to a farm property in Caniambo, followed by a trip around the country side via Dookie. At the farm the fellers sat around a drum fire, eating sandwiches, while listing to someone playing old tunes on the harmonica. The tranquillity of their surrounds meant no one wanted to leave, until the sun went behind the clouds. Kevin Grover - Men’s Shed Coordinator Barry's Botanics Well as the warm weather has come early there are a few things we need to do before the heat of mid-Summer. If you have not already re-potted your indoor and outdoor plants this will be a good time to do it. When doing so, please use a good quality potting mix and place some Osmocote on the top of the potting mix. This will give your plant some nutrition and food over the next 6 to 12 months. Most of you would have seen or noticed the beautiful roses this year. Roses need regular fertilising through Summer and Autumn to ensure continuous blooms. Last but not least, to save on watering a good quality mulch around your pots and gardens would be an ideal thing to be doing now. On that note, Merry Christmas and I look forward to you reading my column next year. Barry Curtis– Tarcoola Gardener. 22 Birdy Musings From Rodney Park. Winter Went and Gone- Wheee! Early August saw the “Rodney Park Mob”, (magpies), turn up again after a long absence. Boy did they make themselves at home. The usual 6 turned into 12. They follow people everywhere talking to them in their own chortling sounds and holding conversations on any manner of subjects with the residents. Their carolling from atop the activity centre or the robinias late in the evening and early morning, is very much appreciated by all. They do sing their own song in a language only they know. Sheila was observing a family of wrens scurrying around her bushes when she spied a shape motionless in a bush. Further investigation showed the “shape” was also observing the wrens. LUNCH!!!. Further investigation proved it to be a swamp harrier. Try as she might, it didn’t move for some time. After much flapping of hands and arms (from Sheila), the sound of wings was heard as it took off. Well who can blame it for not wanting to move from a smorgasbord in front of it! The resident pardalotes got into building nests on the 23rd August. Roma’s mob beat ours by a day. It is fun observing the industrious little birds as they cart in material to form the dainty nest inside the boxes. Come September and they appear to be sitting on the nest. We all await the outcome as the weather SLOWLY warms up. At least feed is in abundance as the plants have all flowered prolifically providing insects with a varied buffet. Our feathered friends might be overjoyed, but all avid gardeners at Rodney Park are out doing battle with the little blighters! 23 Opposition!!! Ross has the bird-box at the rear of his unit, occupied for the first time this season. Pardalotes are breeding – well…… like pardalotes. If there is a suitable spot for a nest, then in they go to set up house and there still appears to be numerous little birdies fluttering around looking for somewhere to occupy. (Hope the real estate agents are on watch- they would make a killing!). Well keep your feathers unruffled as we go into what appears to be a dry summer. Keiran “Grumpy”Griffith Rodney Park Village book a seat for the meal and the bus. Several people attended a production of Pinocchio at Westside theatre. Our monthly visit to the Undera Hotel for an evening meal is still popular and well patronised. Everyone is welcome; the more the merrier. See Bud Oster to In July our Ukelele group joined with volunteers to enjoy a night at Waratah dressed as a song. Much guessing happened before finally coming up with answers to some of the 24 costumes. Great fun was had by all. There are a number of units being refurbished and we look In August five of our committee members attended a Food Handler’s course run by Geoff Scales at Tarcoola which proved to be very informative and helpful. Also a bus load attended the information session on recognising the signs of heart attack held at Kialla Gardens. forward to welcoming their new occupants in the near future. We have had continued contact with Amy from the council regarding the Mooroopna Plan and our suggestions and feedback have been welcome. We wish all those experiencing poor health a speedy recovery. Since our last newsletter we have some new residents. Welcome to you all and we hope you enjoy your time at Rodney Park Village. We offer our condolences to the families of residents who have recently passed away and extend our best wishes to those who are on the sick list. Our monthly meals have been well patronised with numbers around the sixty mark. Our faithful band of helpers continue to assist with the preparation each month. Geoff Hill is our drinks man who does a sterling job stocking the bar for our meals. The new coloured tablecloths have brightened up the dining tables and feedback has been very positive. We have enjoyed the company of some of the residents from Waratah who have recently moved from the Independent Living Units. Recently we were privileged to have Peter Wyman from the Home Doctor Service as our guest speaker. Some residents have already used this service and found it helpful. Kath and Pat Treacy 25 Boronia House Hello Everyone. Goodbye flu, hello sneezes, welcome Spring! It is lovely thought looking out at our beautiful garden coming to life. Father’s Day is an important day and our 10 fathers and 2 uncles enjoyed their present of chocolates to let them know how special they are. We do look forward to our cooked breakfast days. It is worth getting up to a lovely plate of eggs, bacon, tomato and hot coffee Out talented singers were here to liven up our afternoons with Janis, Frank, Glenda, Bill and Steve. We also have our inhouse entertainers with Bell, Tex and Wilma from Waratah. Boronia is a very musical place and the residents are pretty good singers too! Our monthly bus trip to Big W are going well, shopping and of course morning tea at the Donut King. Lunch at the RSL was wonderful as well with a beautiful performance from Anthony Tenace. 26 My favourite bus trip was to see the Carpenters Tribute Show at Eastbank. Everyone managed to sing along before a delicious afternoon tea. Well the footy’s over and we enjoyed our Grand Final Party at Boronia and Sing Australia in the Garden. Our Tipping Competition was won by Vikki Cooney with 132 points. Until next time ….. Jenni & Anne - Diversional Therapy Staff 27 Grevillea Lodge Welcome. Jo Williams Lifestyle & Leisure Therapist Shuffleboard Champions Marvis Hurd and Gloria Threlfel 29 Lifestyle and Leisure at Waratah Lodge Oct 2015 Welcome new residents. Welcome to Dot O’Connor and this week Grace Sandilands. Each of these ladies has moved in from our Rodney Park Units so isn't it wonderful that they are still able to visit friends in units and and vice versa and not have to get into cars or buses to visit each other. Our exunit residents even get invited to monthly lunch/dinners to keep those wonderful friendships alive. Cuppa times at Waratah are 10am and 3pm so you can always get a cuppa when you visit us. Welcome to Gail Gail has joined us at Waratah on Mondays for Lifestyle and Leisure and has fitted in well with her many talents, so look out for some wonderful creations for Oaks Day. Go Gail and great to have you join our Waratah Team. Thanks to Kristy Hearn for filling some of those Mondays before Gail. Sad News The saddest part of our work as staff is to let go of our residents when they pass away. We grieve and we miss them and sometimes we lose the families and friendships that have been created along the way while their family member was living here with us. Dot Payne passed away in September and Rose Backman just this week. Two special ladies and our condolences to both families, you are always welcome to call in an have cuppa. We thank you for sharing your loved ones with us as they became our loved ones too. Pat Thorp has moved to Boronia so that's great we can pop in to see her next door. 30 Our respite room has been busy and it's great when people come for little holidays with us though some say they are going home for a rest. Trivia is still a good example of team competitiveness with Emus and Platypus competing very well each week. The Word Find in competition with Boronia each Tuesday morning has injected a new sense of competitiveness amongst our two lodges. Lots of laughs along the way I say makes for a happy home. Kinder kids from Mooroopna came twice to play sing and chat and kept us all amused. Sing Australia has come again and will be coming for our Christmas party. I am thankful to have a great workplace and wonderful residents to look after and to get to know their families. Thank you all. Muna Muna and Gail.- Waratah Lodge. Kialla Gardens Village Hello again! At time of writing the weather can’t decide if it is spring or summer, but I guess it will all work out in the end. This year the trees in our village were adorned with especially beautiful blossoms; white at the west end & pink in the east. 36 At least two of our residents had special birthdays recently. Joan O’Keefe celebrated her 90th & so did Beryl Opie. moved to Hakea with less than a day’s notice. They could get two rooms if they took them straight away & so they & the family made the decision. They are very happy there, but will go to Wangaratta when they can, as their two sons live there. We are pleased to welcome Wes & Ethel Manton to number 79. We hope you will be very happy here. Unfortunately Beryl’s sister Hazel died within the week, which was very sad. If anyone else has had a special celebration our best wishes are with you. Colin Todd from number 110 has passed away since our last Village Voice & our sympathy goes out to Esma & the family. Norma Harrison has moved into Banksia & we hear she is very happy there. We, their near neighbours, were quite shocked when Dave & Isobel Townsend By the time this article is printed we will be putting our peelings etc. into the green bins & we are hoping we get some more of the 37 latter as the garden bins are often overflowing. We are sure management will take care of that matter. Our thanks to Jean Young from the council for coming to our social night to explain it all to us so well. finance department to help pay for the hoists we needed. My thanks, once again, to Jack Thewlis for being my willing (?) photographer for this production. Until next time – Betty Russell. Our committee were happy to transfer $3000 over to the Snippet from Banksia Lodge As always it’s been a very busy few months at Banksia lodge. Residents have enjoyed several outings to Big W for shopping and a cuppa, scenic tours (that end up at the local bakery or cafe), Men’s shed, Christmas in July at Kyabram, Emerald Bank and mystery trips. We have been spoilt by Geoff from the main kitchen with several Bacon & Egg breakfasts this is always looked forward to and enjoyed by not only the residents but staff as well. Don Fairless enjoying Pancake Day Ron Guy enjoying Pancake Day 38 Residents have also enjoyed a pancake morning tea with sugar, lemon, jam and maple syrup. McGuire students donating a new sound system to Banksia Lodge from proceeds of their mini fete. McGuire College kindly organised a fundraiser for Banksia Lodge in the form of a school sausage sizzle, raffle and a mini fete at Banksia Lodge. They then presented our facility with a lovely new sound system. We were very pleased with the way the students presented themselves and enjoyed having them with us. Residents and staff alike all supported our Biggest Morning Tea with some of Geoff’s yummy treats enabling us to contribute to cancer research. Shepparton High School students visited residents and participated in our games morning for 3 consecutive weeks and this was obviously enjoyed by Banksia residents. We are pleased to say that Banksia Lodge passed Accreditation with a very encouraging report from the Auditors..... (Phew!) 39 Janie had her beautiful collection of crafts displayed for one week. All Residents, staff, volunteers and visitors enjoyed looking at all of her wonderful work at their leisure with Janie being on hand to answer any questions. Janie Hunt presenting her beautiful collection Banksia Lodge once again held our annual fete which saw lots of bargains to be had followed by a B.B.Q lunch. Thankyou to all involved for making this day a great success with something for everyone. An Enjoyable Fete on Saturday 19th September 2015 Seniors Week has proved to be very busy with trips to live shows, a health expo, and in the coming days a trip to Rushworth entertainment day, St Augustine’s parish fair and the Mooroopna flower show. Until next time its Cheers From Chris, Donna and Helen. 40 Susanne's Hair Care in “LITTLE SNIPPETS” We celebrated two very important birthdays in September Mim Guilfoyle’s partied in the Activities Centre for her 100th Birthday with family and friends. Looks like Summer is almost here – the sudden heat has been a bit of a shock. Margaret Dent celebrated her 99th Birthday at the Chinaman’s Bridge Café in Nagambie and it was a lovely day for all. We have finally moved into our new home and it is just great. I have now a little bit further to drive to work and a little bit earlier out of bed. Great time to be thinking of a “New-Shorter-Chic Look” or maybe a touch of colour!! We hairdressers are always up to suggestions for a new style. In November I am having a week in Brisbane to look after Lachie and Ethen, Mum and Dad are having a second honeymoon. I guess our next Newsletter will be after Christmas … my goodness how the Year has flown. Take Care Love Suzie - Hairdresser 41 Set in Stone This Special Breed I thought I would write about our firemen They never get a lot of praise We often hear their sirens wailing As they go rushing through their days When the temperature reaches forty And there is not a cloud in the sky Then it’s getting very serious As the trucks go flashing by They fought the fires of Ash Wednesday A lot of men that day were lost Relatives and loved ones Left behind to count the cost They were amazing on Black Saturday They battled day and night Blackened bodies, scorched and weary Never giving up the fight They face domestic situations Sometimes someone’s trapped inside Can you imagine the frustration? All the feelings they have to hide With their training and their courage They are indeed a special breed And it’s good to know they are out there Should we ever find ourselves in need.
