Luke 16:1-13. Very few people seem to like this parable, but we are renlind~d : gain that Jesus tells a
parable to make a poiot, not always to extol the main character. Jesus encouraged His d.isciples to

CATHOLICS COME HOME
St. Pius X Catholic Church is offering a six week seri s entitled "Catholics Come Home" beginning Tues
day evening, October 22, 2013. The sessions provide an opportunity for Catholics who have not been active
in their faith to discuss questions and concerns. Pre-registration is requested.
As baptized Catholics we have a precious gift of faith and love from the Lord that needs to be shared with
our brothers and sisters. First we need to pray for th m. Next we need to extend a personal invitation to come
home to the Catholic Ch rch. Many non-active Catholics are waiting for an invitation to return. Many
mistakenly think they are excommunicated and are not w !come to return for a vari ty of reasons.
If you know someone who is no longer active in the Church please invite them to join us. For information
ask them to call Catholics Come Home coordinator, Joe ScarteJli at (H) 570-374-9954 or © 570-313-7606 or
parish office 570-374-4113.

R OF FAITH
As an innocent lamb Christ merited for us life by the free shedding of His own blood. [n Him God reconciled us to
Himself and among ourselves; from bondage to the devil and sin He delivered us. so that each one of us can say with
the Apostle: The Son of God "loved m and gave Himself up for me" (Gal. 2:20). By suffering for us He not only pro
vided us with an example for our imitation, He blazed a trail, and if we follow it, life and death are made holy and take
on a new meaning.
The Christian man, conformed to the likeness of that Son Who is the firstborn of many brothers, received "the first
fruits of the Spirit" (Rom. 8:23) by which he becom s capable of discharging the new law of love. Through this Spirit,
who is "the pledge of our inheritance" (Eph. 1:]4), the whole man is renewed from within, even to the achievement of
"the redemption of the bod ., (Rom. 8:23): "If the Spirit f him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, th n he
who raised Jesus Christ from th dead will also bring to life your mortal bodies because of his Spirit who dwells in
you" (Rom. 8: \1). Pressing upon the Christian to be sure, are the need and the duty to battle against evil through mani
fold tribulations and even to suffer death. But, linked with the paschal mystery and patterned on the dying Christ, he
will hasten forward to resurrection in the strength which comes from hope.

FISHERS OF MEN DIN ER
Most Reverend illiam 1. Waltersheid, Auxiliary Bishop of Pittsburgh, will be the Keynote Speaker.
We are faced with a challenge! Many dioceses throughout the United States are facing the challenge of
fewer vocations to the priesthood. We in the Diocese of Harrisburg are faced with a different kind of
challenge - the need to provide solid seminary formation for an increasing number of men who are studying
for the priesthood. What a wonderful challenge to be blessed with! As we have counted on your prayers for
young men considering a vocation to the priesthood, so now we need your financial help in providing
seminary formation for them.

Mark Your Calendars and Plan to Attend On of This Fall's Bible Study Offerings! Beginning the
week of October 13 th , by popular d mand, St. Pius X will present three important Bible studies: Monday
nights beginning at 7:00 pm we \ lill be covering all the narrative books of the Bible in The Great A dven
ture-The Bible Timeline (see the timeline banner in the. arthex); uesday m mings, at 10 al11, the book of
Matthew; and Thursday mornings, also at 10:00 al11, Paul's lett r to the Galatians-a first time offering. If
you haven't yet tried one of these Bible Studi s, narrated by Jeff avins, you've definitely been missing out
on some fabulous instruction in your faith by one of the Catholic Church's most renowned theologians and
Bible experts. You don't need to have any experience with reading the Bible or, conversely, can be a long
time 'Bible-thumper.' Either way, you'll gain a new and profound appreciation for what God has revealed to
us in is Holy Book by attending anyone of these studi s. For those of ou who may be 'afraid' of the
Bible, we suggest you start with the The Great A dventure-The Bible Timeline and put your fears to rest.
The Timeline provides an overview of salv lion history and gives you a great perspective for continued
Bible reading and further study. Details in the next several bulletins!
