Greater Patchogue Chamber of Commerce Volume 7, Issue 9 September 2004 Everything Old is New Again An unusual (make that unique) and welcome new addition has opened on South Ocean Avenue: Miss Linnie’s—A Unique Boutique. Linnie Burgan and Mark Stratton (above) are the owners. Thet are also new Patchogue home owners. The store features a stock of vintage clothing as well as new items. It is definitely worth a look. Impressive First Year for Art Show The Celebration of the Arts juried professional art show on Sept. 4 was a great success. with a sold out lineup of 73 artists and many comments about the quality of the event. Artist booths filled East Main Street between South Ocean Avenue and Maple Avenue, and the Roe Insurance Agency property was also utilized. Hundreds of visitors enjoyed perfect weather and beautiful art. Many thanks to Joy Soper and her committee for a great job. Your Ad Could Be Here Call The Office 475-0121 History Museum Update The Long Island Natural History Museum has been working for the past year to open public exhibits at 560 South Ocean Avenue in Patchogue. Current plans call for several life-size dinosaur sculptures, a fossil dig for kids, and other familyoriented educational attractions. Several exhibits have already been assembled for the site and are ready for installation, but, unfortunately, the building is in much poorer condition than originally thought. The house will require extensive repairs and, perhaps, total replacement, which will delay the opening for an indefinite period. The Museum is working to secure the funds that will be necessary to make the site usable and has launched a designated gift program so that the names of benefactors can be prominently displayed among the exhibits. Bright lighting is among the distinguishing features of this beautiful 80 East Main Street facade and interior renovation. The owner of the recently opened salon and gift shop, and Chamber member, is Geo Greco. For now, the Museum is working to establish educational programs to serve the Patchogue community. As part of this effort the Museum has presented public demonstrations of live Birds of Prey (such as falcons, hawks, and owls) at two local libraries and is preparing a school loan program that will allow local teachers to borrow genuine museum objects, free-of-charge. The Museum is looking for volunteers to assist with these efforts, especially people who would like to participate in fund-raising activities. Bryn Mader, Director, Long Island Natural History Museum 631.682.9025 Athena East at 49 East Main Street, with owners Janice Konstantatos and Yota Athanasatos (center), is now open for breakfast. lunch and dinner.
