Grade 11 to Sidama
Sidama is a zone in the Southern Nations,
Nationalities, and Peoples' Region of
Ethiopia located 300km from Addis Ababa. It
is named for the Sidama people, whose homeland
is in the zone. Sidama Zone is the leading coffee
producing zone in Ethiopia, which contributes
greatly to the foreign exchange of the federal
government. The Zone is also rich in water
resources, which are underutilized. We will be
staying at Common River. For more information

Grade 11 WWW Objectives
We Sense, We Explore, We Reflect
The retreat is a vital hands-on induction to
Creativity, Action and Service (CAS) component of
the ICS High School Diploma and IB Diploma. CAS
provides students with opportunities for service
learning beyond the traditional four walls of a
classroom.
Important Next Steps:
• Fill out and return the signed parent permission form to your advisor.
Required Packing List:
• Water bottle
• Hat to protect from the sun
• Sleeping bag
• Sunscreen / Insect repellant
• Toiletries
• Large towel
• A jacket (windbreaker for evenings) and a raincoat (just in case)
• Sturdy shoes for work
Suggested Packing list:
• Sidama is located in a malaria zone. Parents should consider medication wisely with their doctor's
recommendation.
• A few changes of clothes for evenings (to cover your legs / hands) and some for work / warm weather,
including socks, underwear, comfortable shoes, swim wear (if allowed to swim during our return at
Langano)
• 3 long-sleeve lightweight shirt
• 2 pair lightweight pants
• 1 pair pajamas
• Rubber flip-flops or sandals for shower
• Hairbrush and bands if needed
• Pencils and or pens
• A book to read
• No more than birr 200 IN SMALL BILLS for extras
