CONGRESS PROGRAM CONGRESS PROGRAM 1 CONGRESS PROGRAM ACCREDITATION 2 PATRONAGE CONGRESS PROGRAM Welcome! Dear Participants, On behalf of the Romanian Society of Arthroscopy and Sports Trauma, it gives me great pleasure to personally welcome each of you to the SRATS Congress 2016 held in Bucharest, between 31 March - 1 April, the first arthroscopy congress in Romania. It’s an exciting time for the Romanian Society of Arthroscopy and Sports Trauma, as we continue to grow and adapt, remaining always motivated and responsive in the field of Continuing Medical Education. SRATS Congress 2016 is dedicated to the study of sports pathology of the knee, shoulder, hip and ankle, hoping for an interactive meeting with challenging debates between the faculty and the audience and aiming to provide medical professionals with a proper platform for the exchange of clinical and scientific knowledge. The Scientific Committee has prepared a dynamic scientific programme, offering a great variety of subjects structured in Highlight Lectures, Symposia, Instructional Courses, Free Papers and E-Posters, Debates, Lunch Time Symposia and Physiotherapy Symposium. The scientific program is supported by a large number of speakers, international leaders in the field of sports trauma and arthroscopy. Bucharest, the capital of Romania, is an enormous vibrant city, the 6th largest metropolis of the European Union. A large variety of activities are available in Bucharest, and we hope that your stay here will be an enjoyable one. SRATS Congress will also host an important social event - the Welcome Reception for all Congress attendees to which you are invited on Thursday, March 31 at Crowne Plaza Hotel. I would like to thank each of you for attending SRATS Congress 2016 and bringing your expertise to this scientific event. We are more than confident that SRATS Congress 2016 will be an important opportunity for the exchange of scientific information. My personal respect and thanks goes out to all of you, Assoc. Being involved in an area of continuous medical development, SRATS aims to have a dynamic and motivating activity, facilitating access to up-to-date medical information to its members. By organising courses and congresses, aiming to provide access to a reputable database and to create an on-line video library, SRATS goal is to improve the quality of the medical practice and therefore increase patient satisfaction and quality of life. The development of a website with a modern design and structure allows for a better communication and interaction between its members. „We intend to create a serious professional society, which can represent a solid alternative to the existing ones. It is an important and difficult challenge which I invite you to accept. Only together we can reach important objectives, whose final target is the patient, benefiting from modern therapeutic actions and fast rehabiliation protocols. By doing this we will be able to prevent a series of potentially invalidating complications. I hope we will manage to rise to the expectations of this important task, thus wideneing the patient’s access to top line technologies. We will try to guide The Romanian Society of Arthroscopy and Sports Trauma towards continuous progress, an efficient collaboration with the internal and international academic environement and towards permanent contact with the latest technology. We must demonstrate together, in a period in which all the insurance services try to reduce their costs, the efficiency of endoscopic treatment and the advantages of the fast rehabilitation as well as the necessity to adequatley cover the costs of the endoscopic therapeutic act.“ SRATS PRESIDENT Associate Professor Doctor Ioan Cristian STOICA SRATS Board Assoc. Romanian legend has it that the city of Bucharest was founded on the banks of the Dambovita River by a shepherd named Bucur, whose name literarily means „joy“. His flute playing reportedly dazzled the people and his hearty wine from nearby vineyards endeared him to the local traders, who gave his name to the place. SIGHTS IN BUCHAREST The House of Parliament The Palace of the Parliament (Romanian: Palatul Parlamentului) is the seat of the Parliament of Romania. Located on Dealul Arsenalului in central Bucharest, it is the second largest administrative building in the world, after The Pentagon in the United States, with 84 m high, an area of 365,000 m2 and is composed of 23 bodies. Having a volume of 2,550,000 m3, it is also the third most massive building in the world. THE HOUSE OF PARLIAMENT The Romanian Athenaeum The work of French architect Albert Galleron, who also designed the National Bank of Romania, the Athenaeum was completed in 1888, financed almost entirely with money donated by the general public. One of the preeminent public fundraising campaigns ever in Romania, the „Give a penny for the Athenaeum“ campaign saved the project after the original patrons ran out of funds. With its high dome and Doric columns, the Athenaeum resembles an ancient temple. THE ROMANIAN ATHENAEUM 26 The lobby has a beautifully painted ceiling decorated in gold leaf, while curved balconies cascade in ringlets off a spiral staircase. A ring of pink marble columns is linked by flowing arches where elaborate brass lanterns hang like gems from a necklace. Inside the concert hall, voluptuous frescoes cover the ceiling and walls. Renowned worldwide for its outstanding acoustics, it is Bucharest’s most prestigious concert hall and home of the Romanian George Enescu Philharmonic. CONGRESS PROGRAM Bucharest Highlights THE NATIONAL LIBRARY OF ROMANIA THE ARCH OF TRIUMPH SIGHTS IN BUCHAREST The Arch of Triumph It is situated on Kiseleff Street, in the vicinity of Herastrau Park . It is the replica of the famous Arch from Paris. It was built in 1922 to commemorate Romania’s participation in the first World War. The initial construction was realized by wood. In 19351936 the old monument was replaced by a new one made by granite. The sculptures which decorate the monument were created by Ion Jalea, Corneliu Mendrea , Constantin Baraschi and Dimitrie Paciurea. The Cotroceni Palace The palace was built in 1893 by the French architect Paul Gottereau and was meant to be the permanent residence of Prince Ferdinand. After the renovations following the earthquake from 1977, Ceausescu made it the official guest house. In 1991 one wing of the palace became the residence of the President of Romania. Near the palace you can find Cotroceni Museum, one of the most appreciated museums in Europe. THE COTROCENI PALACE Victory Avenue Bucharest’s oldest and arguably, most charming street. Built in 1692 to link the Old Princely Court to Mogosoaia Palace, it was initially paved with oak beams. The street became Calea Victoriei in 1878, after the Romanian War of Independence victory. Between the two world wars, Calea Victoriei developed into one of the most fashionable streets in the city. Stroll along this street from Piata Victoriei to Piata Natiunilor Unite to discover some of the most stunning buildings in the city, including the Cantacuzino Palace, the historical Revolution Square, the National Library of Romania, the Military Club, the CEC Headquarters and the National History Museum. 27 CONGRESS PROGRAM Bucharest Highlights THE CANTACUZINO PALACE SIGHTS IN BUCHAREST Cantacuzino Palace Grigore Cantacuzino was thought to be one of Romania’s wealthiest citizens in 1899. As Prime Minister, it was his wish to have the most elegant residence in Bucharest. Using the designs of architect Ion Berindei, the Cantacuzino Palace was built between 1898 and 1900 in eclectic French style. Combining a neoclassical architectural style with art nouveau elements, it features wrought iron balconies, tall arched windows and a porte-cochere (an elegant wroughtiron doorway) flanked by two lions. The Military Club Standing guard imposingly, this neoclassical masterpiece, designed by Romanian architect Dimitrie Maimaroiu, was built in 1912 to serve the social, cultural and educational 28 THE PALACE OF SAVINGS BANK needs of the Romanian army. Banquets and official events are still hosted in the ballrooms, while the upstairs area is reserved for the army’s library, as well as offices and classrooms for officer instruction. The main part of the building is off-limits to civilians, but the sumptuous restaurant and summer terrace is open to the public. The Palace of the Savings Bank Boasting one of the most impressive neoclassical facades in the city, this structure was built in the 19th century to the design of French architect Paul Gottereanu (who between 1875 and 1900 designed more than 50 buildings in the city, to house the first Romanian Savings Bank. The square-shaped palace has a large central dome with metallic ribs separated by glass, which allows natural light to come in; there are also four smaller domes. The arch at the entrance, with its Corinthian columns, is a highlight of any architectural tour of the city.arched windows and a porte-cochere (an elegant wrought-iron doorway) flanked by two lions. CONGRESS PROGRAM Bucharest Highlights SIGHTS IN BUCHAREST Peace Treaty that put an end to the Russian-Turkish War (1806-1812). OLD HISTORICAL CENTER OF BUCHAREST Lipscani District Perhaps the city’s unique charm can be best observed in the area known as Lipscani, which consists of a jumble of streets between Calea Victoriei, Blvd. Bratianu, Blvd. Regina Elisabeta and the Dambovita River. At the beginning of 1400s, most merchants and craftsmen - Romanian, Austrian, Greek, Bulgarian, Serbian, Armenian and Jewish - established their stores and shops in this section of the city. Soon, the area became known as Lipscani, named for the many German traders from Lipsca or Leiptzig. Other streets took on the names of various old craft communities and guilds, such as Blanari (furriers), Covaci (blacksmiths), Gabroveni (knife makers) and Cavafii Vechii (shoemakers). The mix of nationalities and cultures is reflected in the mishmash of architectural styles, from baroque to neoclassical to art nouveau. Today, the area is home to many art galleries, antique shops and coffeehouses. On a beautiful day, you can stroll down the narrow cobblestone streets and imagine the shopkeepers outside near their stores, encouraging people to buy their merchandise and negotiating prices with them. Manuc’s Inn Built between 1804 and 1808 by the wealthy Armenian trader Emanuel Marzaian (called by the Turks, Manuc Bey), the inn was witness in 1812 to the preliminary talks of the MANUC’S INN A favorite meeting and resting place for tradesmen in those times, Manuc’s Inn has preserved to this day its old style and flavor. It now serves as a hotel with a restaurant, a wine cellar and a pastry shop. The Beer Cart Restaurant Opened in 1879, this famous restaurant and beer house soon became one of the most popular meeting places for Bucharest’s literati who would gather to discuss matters of their time. Its neo-gothic architectural style is reflected both in the façades and the interior decorations: columns, arches, chandeliers, a wooden staircase, furniture and murals on the walls and ceiling. Stavropoleos Monastery Stavropoleos Monastery (Romanian: Mănăstirea Stavropoleos), also known as Stavropoleos Church (Romanian: Biserica Stavropoleos) during the last century when the monastery was dissolved, is an Eastern Orthodox monastery for nuns in central Bucharest, Romania. Its church is built in Brâncovenesc style. The patrons of the church are St. Archangels Michael and Gabriel. The name Stavropoleos is a Romanian rendition of a Greek word, Stauropolis, meaning “The city of the Cross”. One of the monastery’s constant interests is Byzantine music, expressed through its choir and the largest collection of Byzantine music books in Romania.
