Its mission includes warfighting as well as humanitarian and peacekeeping operations.Join in festivities in the Officer’s Club, play crud, and hear “war stories”(meaning exaggerated tales) from pilots and fellow IWF members. Since the beginning of the last century, Ruedesheim has been an attraction for English and German romantic writers, and considering the modest number of its residents, is today one of the most visited towns in Germany. Historical buildings, such as the Klunkhardshof, the fortified Adlerhof, the thousand year old Broemser castle, and the ruin of Ehrenfels castle provide pleasure for the eyes and senses. The ICE (which is pronounced „I-C-E“, not „ice“) has rapidly made-up for the late start with trains that now reach 330 km/h, among the fastest in the world. There are now three generations of ICE trains operating on over a dozen lines connecting all the major cities. We have reserved for you a seat in the first class section of the ICE from Frankfurt to Berlin. Dinner on this evening will be served on board in the restaurant car. Arrival in Berlin to a champagne reception at the elegant Brandenburger Hof. The spectacular architectural ensemble of the new German Chancellery is one of the most impressive structures in the newly created government district. After the Bundestag decided in 1991 to move the capital from Bonn back to Berlin, an architectural competition designed this government building along the river Spree. 16 IWF x 3 Forum Valkyrie Day 7, September 12 Art, History, Global Leadership Afternoon Program /Dress Code: Business Casual The Federal Ministry of Defense and Bendlerblock A historical building complex located near the Tiergarten park along the southern edge of what was once the diplomatic quarter of Berlin. It was the site of Hitler’s speech of February 3, 1933, on “Lebensraum (living space) in the east.” The Movie” Valkyrie”, featuring Tom Cruise as Colonel von Stauffenberg, was filmed in original locations pertaining to the film‘s story, such as Berlin‘s historic BENDLERBLOCK. Valkyrie is a 2008 American historical thriller that was directed by Bryan Singer.TOM CRUISE stars as Colonel von Stauffenberg, one of the key plotters. German newspapers and filmmakers supported the film and its attempt to spread global awareness of von Stauffenberg‘s plot. The site is best remembered as the center of the attempt to overthrow the National Socialist regime on July 20, 1944. Designed by Friedrich August Stüler who envisaged a temple-like building, with a monumental exterior staircase and magnificent stairway inside. In 1866, building work began, and when Stüler died the same year, Johann Heinrich Strack took over the site management. The National Gallery was opened 1876. Sanssouci Bode Museum - For the design of this formally named Kaiser Friedrich-Museum (renamed Bode Museum in 1956), the emperor Wilhelm II commissioned the head government building. Renaissance Face at the Bode Museum Under the title Renaissance Faces, the Gemäldegalerie der Staatlichen Museen zu Berlin and the Metropolitan Museum of Art (New York) are presenting a large exhibition on the evolution of the Italian portrait during the fifteenth century. Berlin‘s Bode-Museum, which reopened in 2006, is the ideal site for this project, since Wilhelm von Bode conceived it as a museum of the Renaissance. New Museum – Constructed between 1843 and 1855 and designed by Friedrich August Stuler, the Neues Museum constitutes a key work in the history of art, and technology in the 19th century. 19 IWF x 3 Forum Day 8 , September 13 Berlin Afternoon Program / Dress Code: Business Casual Excursion to Potsdam - Sanssouci Castle and Park. Frederick the Great wanted to cultivate plums, figs and wine on Potsdam’s doorstep. In 1744, he had a terraced garden designed in Sanssouci Park for this reason. But, due to the exceptionally beautiful view, the king turned in to a summer residence above the terraces just a year later. The New Palace and the picture gallery were constructed in subsequent years, while the slopes of the castle were used as flower and vegetable gardens. Walk from the Sanssouci Palace to the „Neues Palais“, where we will be visiting the private rooms of Frederick the Great, the „Friedrichswohnung“, otherwise not open to the public. Castle Lindstedt is one of Potsdams famous castles & gardens which was built under Frederick William IV. 1858 until 1860. Castle Lindstedt became a World Heritage Site in 1999.
