Early Bird Registration* $90 per person by September 8, 2014 Speaker Information Agenda Katherine Dettwyler, Ph.D. teaches anthropology at the University of Delaware in Newark, DE. She is the author of Dancing Skeletons: Life and Death in West Africa (1993/2013), and the co-editor of Breastfeeding: Biocultural Perspectives (1995). Her research on extended breastfeeding in the US was published in 2004 in Clinical Obstetrics and Gynecology, 47(3):712-723 ("When to Wean: Biological Versus Cultural Perspectives"). She is the author of many other scholarly articles, most of which are available on her website at www.kathydettwyler.weebly.com, along with other essays and resources. She is a frequent speaker at universities, La Leche League conferences, and lactation consultant conferences. She lives in Delaware with her anthropologist/mental health professional husband, Steven, and son Peter. Her daughter Miranda lives with her family in Cardiff, Wales. Her son Alex, and his wife Shenin, live in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Registration & Continental Breakfast Liz Brooks, JD, IBCLC, FILCA is a lawyer (since 1983), private practice lactation consultant (since 1997) and leader in her professional association (since 2005). She brings to life the connection between lactation consultation and the law. IBCLCs face a maze of ethical, moral, and legal requirements in their day-to-day practice, no matter what the work setting. With plain language and humor, Liz explains how lactation helpers can work ethically and legally. She offers pragmatic tips that can immediately be used in daily practice to successfully navigate that maze! Lunch Buffet provided Michelle Bode, MD is an attending Neonatologist at Crouse Hospital. She graduated from Dartmouth Medical School, Residency in Pediatrics at Boston City Hospital, Neonatal Fellowship at UNC-Chapel Hill North Carolina, and MPH in epidemiology from UNC. Her special interests include: Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome and long-term follow-up on high risk infants.
