Lynn’s Pen The Village Podiatry The Village Podiatrist will be seeing residents in the Montclair on the third Tuesday bi-monthly. The forms to fill out to see the podiatrist are located at the Front Desk. If you need to schedule an appointment with the podiatrist you may schedule through the Montclair. Ask Breda Collins for more information. If you have diabetes you may need the services of a Podiatrist to cut your toenails. GA Tech Research Project Needs Wheel Chair Residents Volunteers are needed to participate in a Georgia Tech research study of TOILET GRAB BARS. You will receive $25.00 for 1.5 hours of your time. You may go on your own or a driver from GA Tech will come to get you and take you home after your time is completed. You must be 55 + years of age, use a wheel chair, get on and off a toilet from a standing position independently, and if you need grab bars. If you are interested please contact Wanlin Xiang at 404– 386– 7978. This project began in July and your help is needed ASAP. CHAIR YOGA Would you be interested in joining a Chair Yoga Class here at Clairmont Place in the Fall? Please let Lynn Mayer know of your interest. Flu Shots Flu shots will be given on Sept. 20 at 9:00 am in the bar area. Residents must bring their Medicare Card or a copy to receive a shot and have it paid for by Medicare. Montclair Residents will receive flu shots at 8:00 before the Clairmont Place Residents. Sign up for Flu shots at the Front Desk Save the date for Sr. Provider Night– invite your adult family member On September 19 from 56:30 Clairmont Place, The Montclair, and Personal Care Home Health Providers are hosting a Sr. Provider Fair with several providers here with helpful information all in one stop shopping. All residents are encouraged to invite your family members, adult children or others who may wish to gather pertinent information regarding resources available to you. The fair will be held in the Community Room . Overnight trip to Amicalola Falls October 25 & 26 We are looking ahead to plan for the coming of Fall with cooler weather and lots of colorful fall leaves. This Fall our overnight trip takes us back to Amicalola with some side trips along the way. We are scheduled to depart Clairmont Place on Thursday, Oct. 25 and return home on Oct. 26. We will travel by way of Cartersville, and our first stop will be the Tellus Science Museum. We will stop for a lunch break and then travel on to the Funk Heritage Center at Reinhardt College. All aboard the bus to travel on to Amicalola for dinner at the lodge and social time before we retire for the evening. Bright and early for those wishing to beat others to the breakfast buffet at the lodge. Check out by 9:30 and off for a quick stop at Burt’s Pumpkin Farm before we go the Booth Western Art Museum, then a lunch stop before heading home. We hope to see some beautiful fall leaves as we travel up into North Georgia. A letter with detailed information will be in your cubbies soon, along with a sign up sheet in the sign up book. Save the date for Oct. 25 & 26 for our fall leaf fun filled overnight get-away! Scrabble anyone? Many thanks to the Fritts family for donating the Scrabble game to us. Two to four players may play this mind game together. It’s the trend to play and it certainly is good for our minds. Older grandchildren will love playing this game with you when they visit. The Scrabble board game can be found in the bar or TV room so pull up a chair and one or three friends and challenge your mind. Brain Boosting Exercise Take a painting or sculpture class—Learning a new art form uses your “right brain,” which is responsible for the visual memory as well as creative imagination. Benefits: right parietal lobe and right frontal lobe. Coffee Chat, Wednesday, August 1st, 9:00 AM. Speaker will be from the Roost Gift Shop. Dinner Outing to the Colonnade, Wednesday, August 1st, 5:00 PM. The Colonnade Restaurant on Cheshire Bridge offers an Early Bird special and the servings are quite generous portions. Cost: $3 for bus and money for dinner. Deadline: July 26th. Need 10 or more. Elder Fraud Speaker, Thursday, August 2nd, 2:00 PM. Guest speaker, Vivian Wright, President of Common Sense Solutions will give an informative session on avoiding Identity Theft. Men’s Breakfast to JR’s Log House, Friday, August 3rd, 9:15 AM. The Clairmont Place men are going out for a hearty breakfast and guy talk. All Clairmont Place men are invited to sign up. Cost: $3 for bus and money for breakfast. IMAX Movie, Friday, August 3rd, 12:30 PM. Fernbank Museum. The IMAX movie is “To the Artic” and on a hot August day it should be a refreshing movie. IMAX movies are about 45 minutes long. Cost: $13.70, includes bus and ticket. Deadline: July 24th. Need 10 people for group rate. Sunday Cinema, Sunday, August 5th, 1:30 PM. Cinema. “What Women Want”. Starring Mel Gibson, Helen Hunt, Marisa Tomei, and Alan Alda. Rated PG-13. Ice Cream Sundae’s on Monday, Monday, August 6th, 1:30 PM. Main Dining Room. Come enjoy an ice cream sundae followed by music with entertainer, Jerry Foster at 2:00 PM. Chair Massage with State Licensed Massage Therapist, Tuesday, August 7th, beginning at 10:00 AM. Due to interest and requests for a massage therapist to give chair massages, we are please to offer appointments with Christine Lobkowicz in the Montclair. Sign up to schedule an appointment for a 10 minute massage or book two appointments for 25 minutes. Cost: $12 for 10 minutes or $30 for 25 minutes. Deadline: August 1st. Sweet Charity, Wednesday, August 8th, 6:45 PM. Aurora Theatre. Don’t miss a minute of Sweet Charity, Neil Simon hit musical about the misadventures of Charity Hope Valentine, a dance hall gal with a heart of gold who attempts to navigate the emotionally treacherous terrain of romance and New York city in the 1960’s. Cost: Season Tickets: $3 for bus; Single Tickets: $22.02, includes ticket and bus. Deadline: August 1st. Need 10 or more. “I Ought to be in Pictures”, Thursday, August 9th, 7:00 PM. ART Station. Neil Simon’s play focuses on Herb Tucker, a writer’s blocked Hollywood script writer who abandoned his New York family 16 years earlier. When Herb’s 16 year old daughter surprises him and arrives at his door, he decides to take another stab at fatherhood, and hopefully get it right this time. “Terrific...sweet, dandy and touching play.” Cost: Season ticket holders—$3 for bus. The DeKalb Farmer’s Market, Friday, August 10th, 2:15 PM. The bus will take residents on a trip to shop at the DeKalb Farmer’s Market, but we’ll be home in time for the Cocktail Party. Cost: $3 for bus and shopping money. Deadline: August 8th. Need 10 or more. Cocktail Party, Friday, August 10th, 4:00-5:00 PM. At our monthly cocktail party the drinks and snacks are on the house, but the residents bring the fun. Atlanta Symphony Concert, Saturday, August 11th, 7:00 PM. Woodruff Arts Center—Symphony Hall. A FREE ASO Concefrt featuring: Mozart: Magic Flute Overture; Copeland: Appalachian Spring; Bernstein: Three Dance Episodes from On the Town; DeFalla: Ritual Fire Dance; Prokofiev: Romeo and Juliet; Theofanidis: Rainbow Body. Craft class meets on August 14th and 28th and our own Adelaide Owens will instruct us on how to make paper flowers. We need lots of helpers to make the flowers which we will give to each Montclair resident. Birthday Dinner, Tuesday, August 14th, 5:00 PM. Main Dining Room. Ned Cullen returns to entertain us on the piano as we celebrate the August birthday residents. Coffee Chat, Wednesday, August 15th, 9:00 AM. Dinner and a Movie, Wednesday, August 15th, 6:15 PM. Cinema. On Dinner and Movie night, we’ll show a movie selected from the “Red Box” and surprise everyone. Movie nights are August 15th and August 29th. Watermelon on the Patio, Thursday, August 16th, 1:30 PM. On the Patio. Refreshing juicy watermelon will be served on the patio—last chance of the season so don’t miss out. Sunday Cinema, Sunday, August 26th, 1:30 PM. Cinema. “The Family Man” Starring Nicolas Cage, Tea Leoni. Rated PG -13. Southeastern Railway Museum, Friday, August 17th, 9:15 AM. Our outing takes us to the Southeastern Railway Museum for a tour, followed by lunch at a nearby restaurant. Cost: $9, includes museum and bus and bring money for lunch. Deadline: August 10th. Need 12 people to sign up. “Tea Party”, Saturday, August 18th, 7:00 PM. Ansley Park Playhouse. From the writer of “Peachtree Battle” comes this hilarious comedy held over in August. “Clarissa Cannon’s husband, Congressman Thurgood Cannon, is being considered as Vice President for the Republican ticket. All she has to do is convince the Tea Party.....they’re white! Comedy. Cost: $20.50, includes ticket and bus. Deadline: August 6th. Need 10 or more. Ride the “The Golden Shuttle”, Monday, August 27th, 11:00 AM. Gather at the 2100 Front entrance to depart on the “Golden Shuttle” for a free ride to a variety of destinations. Lynn Mayer takes our group to ride the shuttle to get off at Northlake Mall. We will shop and have lunch in the Food Court and catch the shuttle to ride home. Limited to 13 residents. Shuttle schedules are at the Front Desk. Cost: Free shuttle ride— bring money for lunch and shopping. Deadline: August 21st. Limited to 13 residents. Sunday Cinema, Sunday, August 19th, 1:30 PM. Cinema. “Happy Feet” Starring the voices of Robin Williams, Elijah Wood, Nicole Kidman, and Hugh Jackman. Rated PG. Dinner Outing to Nicola’s Greek/Lebanese Restaurant, Sunday, August 19th, 6:45 PM. We’re returning to Nicola’s for a fun evening watching Belly Dancers, dancing with the belly dancers and enjoying a feast of food. Cost: $3 for bus and money for dinner. Deadline: August 13th. Need 12 or more people. “Mystery Movie”, Monday, August 20th, 1:30 PM. Cinema. We’ve got a “Mystery Movie” in store for our movie goers at 1:30 PM on Monday, August 20th. All are welcome. Jewelry Vendor, Tuesday, August 21st, 11:00 AM-1:00 PM. Bar Area. Harris Fenster, jewelry maker, returns to Clairmont Place to sell his personally made jewelry that many of you liked. Cost: $3 for dinner and money for dinner. Deadline: August 26th. Need 10 or more. Ladies Breakfast Outing to J. Christopher’s, Friday, August 31st, 9:15 AM. On Dresden Drive. All ladies from Clairmont Place may sign up to go to breakfast and not only enjoy the meal, but the company of other friends from Clairmont Place. Cost: $3 for bus and money for breakfast. Deadline: August 28th. Need 10 or more ladies to sign up. Mystery Trip, Friday, August 31st, 12:45 PM. Atlanta Area. Eat lunch before you depart at 12:45 PM for a FREE and interesting mystery trip—to a location you may have never visited. Indoors, but some walking or standing—not too much. Cost: $3 for bus. Deadline: August 23rd. 10 or more needed. Upcoming Events with August Deadline: Quilt Exhibit, Tuesday, September 4th, 10:30 AM. CDC Museum. Art meets Science—features 35 textiles by international artists—all masters in transforming quilt making into Art making. Many of the quilts are inspired by the “world unseen” microscope reflections of viruses, bacteria, and other cellular forms. Picture ID required—a valid drivers license or current passport.
