You can thus choose from practically the whole range of conventional offset printing plates. A further advantage: Conventional printing plates are in most cases immediately available. Thanks to its use of UV light, the UVSetter is able to expose a variety of halftone proofing materials. As the printing plate and the halftone proof are produced from the same file, furthermore, production reliability is enhanced in the downstream digital workflow. CTP is acclaimed for the fact that it eliminates numerous work stages – film exposure, make-up and platemaking – and thus the associated costs. With a laser-based process, however, the general financial benefits are quickly lost to the higher material costs (printing plate, chemicals and disposal). All UV materials (printing plates and proof materials) can be processed under daylight conditions. This eliminates the need for dedicated processing facilities, such as a darkroom or specially darkened working areas with yellow illumination, as required by violet CTP systems, for example. The flatbed system of the UV-Setter Series 7 permits exposure of a wide variety of plate sizes, from small format up a maximum 940 x 1150 mm (37" x 45"). When using smaller formats, e.g. DIN A3, it is naturally also possible to process several plates simultaneously. Negative-process plates are imaged especially quickly by the UV-Setters, as only the printing elements of the plate surface need to be exposed. 50 printing plates from 15 manufacturers have already been tested on the UV-Setters, and this list is growing constantly. We would be pleased to provide information as to whether your preferred plate type has been tested successfully, and if so, which exposure times were achieved. It runs on both Windows and Macintosh platforms. Thanks to the integrated super-cell technology, the desired gray levels (max. 4096) are achieved even at low resolutions in conjunction with high screen rulings. The RIP supports, among others, PostScript levels 1-3, JPEG, DCS-2, EPS, TIFF-6, PDF and optionally TIFF/IT-P. The two software modules Proof AutoProof and AutoCIP round off the workflow configuration. AutoProof enables form proof output without a separate RIP process for the proofer. AutoCIP is used to generate CIP3 data in PPF format. The standardized PPF files can then be sent to the control system of the printing press, where they serve for internal presetting of the ink metering functions.
