Sustainability and Social Development Report Index Message from Pepe The Company Features Social Responsibility Prevention Programs Human Resources Management Training and Development Programs Corporate Citizenship Environment RELATÓRIO DE SUSTENTABILIDADE | MENSAGEM Dear friends, In recent years, we have made this delightful job of communicating how we are evolving in Sustainable and Social issues. This report briefly presents some examples of how we work. It is not exhaustive, and it is certainly limited in presenting all of our daily decisions, which we always try to embed the values related to People and Sustainability, considering the latter the way we like to describe it: Doing More with Less. We believe it is important, even working hard on hitting targets, to improve our results and our team, to innovate and be more productive, and to share with you how we can do this within our Values, which include the care of our Team, Community and Environment. Message from Pepe CECRISA S.A. PRESIDENT This is the most important message that we would like to present to you this year: there is no trade-off between these issues. On a more conceptual level this is clear, but also on a daily basis it is clear to us all. When we improve our industrial efficiency, we are doing more with less. When we integrate with customers and suppliers, reducing stock levels and doing a more productive chain, we also affect the Environment positively. When we think and execute programs, such as Together for Our Children, in which we take care of our special children as a group (one of my kids, that inspired this program, has autism), we do not help us only as a Team, but we become better professionals and people, being more productive. All these energies intensify, add and integrate each other. We live it and when you read this report, you will understand that it is not something isolated from our daily lives, on the contrary, it is part of everything else. Finally, we would like to thank the people and organizations who inspired us with their examples and allow us to join forces productively. Much of what we do is done in partnership. Without our partners, we would do much less. We are available to share our experiences and exchange what we have been learning with those who want to get closer. We are on progress, building a path. Exchanging experiences, it will certainly be more pleasant and productive. Sustainability and Social Development Report | ENVIRONMENT Industrial Processes Process Waste Cecrisa Waste Management Program involves a set of actions aimed mainly to reduce the generation of waste and prevent negative environmental impacts on the environment. All waste generated in the process undergo a selection process, qualification and quantification before the evaluation to define their proper disposal. After an awareness campaign and source reduction, the waste generated are separated internally by professionals in defined collectors, and a definition of the appropriate recycling of it is made, or as a last resort to a final disposal in landfills. Only in 2014, 33.000 tons of recycled waste were used in the development of new products, avoiding that raw materials were extracted from the environment. In the packaging recovery process, in 2014 more than 63 thousand pallets were recovered to be reused for storage of the finished products, reventing the cutting of new trees. Year 2014 33 tons of recycled waste 63 reused pallets tons of reused 1.364 recyclable waste Sustainability and Social Development Report | ENVIRONMENT Industrial Processes With the recycling process, we send about 1.364 million tons of recyclable waste (paper, plastic and metals) to others production processes for reuse. Recyclable waste is separated and sent to specialized companies that will perform a new segregation in recyclable rows and turn them into other finished products. As a management system indicator, only in 2014, of the waste generated by the process, 91% were sent to some process of internal reuse or recycling, equivalent to 2.93 kg of waste / m² produced. The process’ wastes are separated by types and reused in the formulation of new products. Some of these materials are crushed in mills, reducing its particle size for reuse in the ceramic paste formulation, reducing milling time and energy consumption in the process. Considered as non-recyclable waste or dangerous, those not eligible for reuse, are intended for industrial landfills in order to minimize their impact towards the environment and in order to meet environmental legislation. Sustainability and Social Development Report | ENVIRONMENT Industrial Processes Reverse Logistic Composting Cecrisa has partnerships with its major suppliers in order to use reverse logistics for the packaging of their products. The materials used for storage and transportation of raw materials are separated and returned to their suppliers. This action contributes to minimization of waste generated internally (pallets, bags, and other packagings), while meets legal requirements. Also, we develop works with suppliers, aiming the formulation of new inputs to the production process, using waste generated in their own plants. In the industrial units the composting technique is used in order to process the organic waste generated in the cafeterias where the meal for our professionals are prepared. The organic waste generated in the meal preparation process are separated and sent for composting located in the industrial plants, where the waste is broken down biologically, turning food leftovers into organic fertilizer, being distributed to its employees and used in the company's sites. Sustainability and Social Development RELATÓRIO DE SUSTENTABILIDADE | Cidadania empresarialReport | ENVIRONMENT Water and Air Water resources Water is a limited resource, but it is considered one of the main inputs for the supply of the ceramic industry. To minimize water consumption in the process, we have a Waste Water Treatment Plant - WWTP installed in the industrial plants. All waste generated in the production processes are directed to the WWTP's, where they are treated and the clarified water is returned in closed circuit for the production process. The sludge generated in this process are all recycled in the formulation of new products, reducing the consumption of Sustainability and Social Development RELATÓRIO DE SUSTENTABILIDADE | Cidadania empresarialReport | ENVIRONMENT Water and Air Saving of 51,98 liters of water per m2 of ceramic tile Industrial Supply with ETS water (ETS Effluent Treatment Station) Saving of 61,42 Millions of liters of water virgin raw materials. Approximately 51.98 liters of water are used to produce each square meter of porcelain tile. This water comes from the treatment and external supply stations. Septic effluent generated by the plant are treated in special stations through the biological process to only after that being discarded, meeting all legal standards. There are monitoring programs involving all these water resources, external laboratories are hired to analyse the achievement of tests, checking physical and chemical quality of these resources. Water supply, wastewater and even for human consumption are analyzed in order to confront the results with the standards established by environmental legislation. There are even monitoring network of the piezometric wells, which evaluates the quality of the groundwater surrounding the units. Sustainability and Social Development RELATÓRIO DE SUSTENTABILIDADE | Cidadania empresarialReport | ENVIRONMENT Water and Air Atmospheric Emissions All gas emissions generated in the production process in the ceramic mass preparation stage are treated using scrubbers filter gases, called Jet Scrubbers. These devices use water for abatement of dust and gases from the process. The water resources generated in this process are routed to the WWTP's, treated and reused in a closed circuit in the system itself. The sludge from this system is separated and sent to cement companies that make the reuse in the formulation of cement artifacts. Periodic monitoring are performed in these emission sources, comparing the results obtained with applicable laws, and passed on for analysis of environmental agencies. In the step of burning the ceramics, the heat generated in the process is transferred trought pipes and reused in the drying phase of the product. With that, we reduce the consumption of natural gas, and energy in the process and reduce the level of the atmospheric emissions. Sustainability and Social Development RELATÓRIO DE SUSTENTABILIDADE | Cidadania empresarialReport | ENVIRONMENT DAILY CONDUCT Concern with the environment The industrial units had environmental liabilities caused by the disposal of their waste in the past, nowadays however they have regularized their situation through the process of environmental recovery of these areas. The residues were removed in accordance with the conditions established by state environmental agencies, and intended for the cement industry. The recovered areas are close to their environmental quality in natural conditions. It has been applied topographic forming techniques, fertilization and liming and in sequence the planting of native species for environmental recovery. The environmental monitoring programs are extended to these areas in order to verify the compliance with the legal standards of the locality’s groundwater. Sustainability and Social Development RELATÓRIO DE SUSTENTABILIDADE | Cidadania empresarialReport | ENVIRONMENT DAILY CONDUCT Investments in the environment Invest in clean technologies, processes and operate in the balance between productivity and environmental preservation is one of Cecrisa’s commitments. The company invests in actions to control its environmental impact toward the neighborhood, monitoring and ensuring proper disposal of its waste, aiming the compliance of its process in the environment where it operates. In the past three years it has been invested over 6.82 million dollars in technologies to control the impacts, recovery of environmental liabilities, and monitorings, as well as other investments focused to environmental issues in all industrial plants. R$ 6,82 millions Invested in environment Sustainability and Social Development RELATÓRIO DE SUSTENTABILIDADE | Cidadania empresarialReport | ENVIRONMENT DAILY CONDUCT Responsible Consumption Cecrisa makes use of an electronic system to purchase its inputs. All suppliers are subjected to a preliminary questionnaire, and at the end they receive a score aiming the balance between economic, social and environmental dimensions. The score ranking will influence the purchase of an input, demonstrating our conduct toward the companies that does not meet the legal standards. Considered one of the most impressive activities of the ceramic industry, the stage of raw materials extraction is controlled strictly by the company. To control these impacts, Cecrisa adopts a system of regular inspection in the fields of its suppliers where it is extracted raw material of the environment. Such surveys have the goal to check with the suppliers the compliance of the requirements set by environmental agencies and responsible for the mineral production, and ensure the integrity and quality of the supply of raw material for the manufacture of our porcelain tile. One of the main care is in relation to the possible interference of extraction activities in the areas considered environmental preservation (near springs and water streams), and for this control to be possible our suppliers adopt a simultaneous process of recovery of these fields. Thus, the recovery process takes place in parallel to the extraction, with continuous monitoring of stages and advances of the environmental recoveries, and areas already rehabilitated by suppliers. Considered one of the most impressive activities of the ceramic industry, the stage of raw materials extraction is strictly oontrolled by the company.
