Study in Krakow, Work in Krakow
Study in Krakow, Work in Krakow Around 130,000 business ventures operate in the city and almost 4,000 companies injected with foreign capital investing over PLN 4.6 billion. This potential alone attracts to Kraków many international corporations casting around for highly educated, strongly motivated young people as their potential employees. At the same time, an average corporate remuneration package in Kraków is lower by ca. 20% than that offered in Warsaw. While still studying at a university, undergraduates may well apply for internships in a number of companies operating within the city, which consequently gives them a tangible competitive edge on the tight labour market. If we were to construe Kraków and the neighbouring Katowice (Upper Silesia) as a single macro-region (such an approach, as well as migration in looking around for best employment opportunities, is commonplace nowadays), then their combined potential in terms of employment opportunities on offer would have a major impact. When combined with the multiple other assets offered by the city, this makes Kraków in the eyes of potential investors a particularly attractive venue in business terms, both for the employers and the workforce. Its principal task is to promote a more international character for the universities through granting more opportunities to study in foreign languages, stimulating inter-university exchange, and inviting foreign academicians to conduct lectures in Kraków as visiting lecturers (invited academic contributions). The “Study in Krakow” consortium maintains a high online profile (www.studyinkrakow.edu.pl), on Facebook (www.facebook.com/studyinkrakow), as well as showing the flag at the most prestigious education fairs (e.g. at EAIE in Europe and NAFSA in North America). Any headway on this score? Number of foreign students enrolled in the universities co-operating within the framework of Study in Krakow increases every year. This includes all kinds of students, who come to study in Krakow for varied periods of time from one semester up to full-time masters academic programmes and postgraduate studies. While we are focusing on free movers, we are also paying attention to attracting students who come to Krakow within numerous scholarship frameworks run by the particular universities. The most common include: Erasmus, Mundus, SMILE, UNESCO, CEEPUS, DAAD, Agricola, Asem Duo, Polish Government Stipends, USA Government Stipends, SAPIENT, EU Australia Joint Mobility Programme Crossings, GFPS, EMBS, STAIR, STEP, JOSZEF, Marie Curie Actions, etc. In the period spanning 2008 - 2014 the number of foreign students at Kraków’s universities grew threefold, i.e. from over 2,000 back in 2008 up to nearly 6,000 in 2014.
