Summary of Club Activities

August 2009:
On August 28, several members of our club will be heading out
on the 2009 National Corvette Caravan. I am sure it will be a
great time for everyone participating and they will send us
postcards along the route (hint hint). I would guess that they
will cross old Route 66 several times as they head to the Corvette museum.
Diane Szalay has been organizing the PCPA/Spitfire Grill event
up in Solvang, August 30th. Please respond to Diane so that
she can get a head count for the activity.
September 2009:
The September 1st CCSB General Meeting has been
CANCELLED.
For those of us not participating in the 2009 National Corvette
Caravan, I am working with Lee and Claudia Whitney on a
brunch run Sunday, September 20th, 2009 to either Pismo
Beach or Morro Bay. We will send out an invitation to
all CCSB members as the details unfold.
October 2009:
Barrett—Jackson Auction at Las Vegas has been cancelled due
to the conflict of Edwards AFB the same weekend.
Fred Lopez re-scheduled the Edwards AFB for October 9th
On October 24th (Saturday), we will have a meeting for the CCSB
Activities Planning - 2010. We need as many of you as possible to help create an activities calendar for the upcoming
year. The location has not yet been decided but it will be discussed at the August 4th CCSB General Meeting.
Bob and Inge Stallings will guide us along the dusty trail to the
Pozo Saloon on October 31st. A sign-up sheet will be passed
around at the August 4th CCSB General Meeting. Please
contact either Bob or Inge Stallings if you would like to participate on this run.

Back Roads to Angeles Crest Highway
Bob & Inge Stallings
Saturday July 25, 2009 Saturday morning seven colorful vetts,
drivers and friends on just a curvy day run. Lee & Claudia Whitney, Fred & Sharon Smith, Roger & Keiko Dunham, Richard
Steel & fellow driver Trevor, Jerry Livers, Fred Markley and
Bob & Inge Stallings had a fun day run up the back roads to
Lake Elisabeth and to Angeles Crest Highway for lunch at Newcomb’s Ranch (a fun very casual place, we shared it with a few
bikers).
We were met by about 100 bikes
and one CHP officer (he was not
there for us either). After a relaxing lunch we had more curves on Angeles
Crest Highway on the way home. Good Friends, Good Roads, Good
Times. As always … it is all about the cars.
Thanks for joining us. Bob & Inge Stallings
Back Roads to Pozo Saloon
Bob & Inge Stallings
Saturday October 31, 2009
Before the goblins come out of the woodwork …
Saturday via back roads to visit in the back hills behind the old Pozo Saloon, that was a stage coach stop
in 1858.
Willie will not be there, the Pozo Martinis are refreshing … one is the limit.
As always … it is all about the cars and the drivers and the road. Come join a fun day. Bob Stallings

President’s Message
Fred Lopez
Summer is flying by for the Lopez’s, how about you? Many thanks to the
LoMonaco’s for opening up their house and hospitality for a wonderful
barbecue after the Santa Barbara 4th of July Parade! And thanks also to
those who participated in the parade .. one of our biggest turn-outs ever.
Our meeting attendance and those staying for dinner has been down
lately. Would like to have 30+ attend and stay for dinner; Jake puts out a
great spread for a very very reasonable price .. actually we haven’t found
anything better. So I invite you to come out to the meetings, stay for dinner, and enjoy the Corvette conversations, the people, and the atmosphere.
Advanced notice – there will be no meeting in September 2009.
Hope to see you on Tuesday 4 August.

No new members to report this month.
Also, I’m sorry to report that several members did not renew their membership by the July 15th deadline. We
now have a total of 96 members and 74 cars. Please remember to put a CCSB Interest Card on any Corvette
you happen to see locally that’s not sporting a CCSB sticker.
I’ve sent an updated copy of the August 2009 membership roster to everyone who has an email address. I
had some problems revising it, so please check it over carefully and make sure all of your information is correct. If not, please let me know.

The Chevy Corvette "seems to be more
often a reward car. Its buyers are older than

the industry average, with 88 percent born
before 1946, according to Auto Pacific data.
Only 11 percent of Corvette owners are in
Gen Y or Gen X." Bell adds: "Sadly, the

usual stereotype of the Corvette buyer as a
57-year old male deep in a mid-life crisis is
proven."
Better car than its image suggests
Bell sees another side to the Corvette. "It is
the absolute greatest performance bargain
on the planet," said Bell. "It's an affordable
giant-killer."
Markwalder adds, "There have been 1.5
million Corvettes produced since 1953, and
while plenty of old guys drive them, they are
an engineering marvel that will run 180 mph
or return 30+ mpg highway fuel economy."
