Octaaf Callebaut, grandson of a brewer in the small Belgian town of Wieze, had secretly been working on his first chocolate recipe. For months, the fine scent of freshly roasted cocoa beans had made everyone curious. They would soon inspire chefs and chocolatiers to create wonderful delights, pairing them with an endless list of flavours and ingredients. Today, more than a century later, Callebaut®’s Master chocolate makers still find inspiration in Octaaf’s recipes and in his authentic way of chocolate crafting: from composing the secret ‘Wieze’ blend to whole bean roasting. They pass on their expertise from generation to generation – bringing you the great chocolate taste of Belgium. #CALLEBAUT 1911 66 years after Eugenius built the foundation of the Callebaut brewery, his grandson Octaaf crafts his first chocolate recipes in Wieze from bean to bar. 2011 1935 A rare, handwritten recipe sheet dating from 1935 mentions the ‘milk chocolate recipe n° 845’ – today, still a preferred recipe among chefs and chocolatiers. Callebaut® celebrates its 100 years of chocolate making together with chefs and chocolatiers all over the world. 1996 Callebaut® merges with French chocolate maker Cacao Barry. The Callebaut family creates its first chocolate couvertures to fill in their needs. 2014 1960-65 Callebaut® exports its chocolate to Europe and overseas for the first time. 1988 Artisans from all over the world flock to the first chocolate school: the Callebaut® College, predecessor of the Callebaut® Chocolate Academy. 4 2012 From now on, the entire Finest Belgian Chocolate range is exclusively manufactured with sustainable cocoa.
