Physicians, nurses, paramedics, respiratory therapists and allied healthcare professionals will be provided information that offers them a deeper understanding of the essentials of care required for the complex patient requiring critical care air and ground transport. Lectures presented will help participants develop leadership skills. EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES: At the completion of this conference participants should know or be able to: • Use state-of-the-art information to enhance and influence clinical practice in the critical care air and ground transport environment, increase skills, and influence awareness of the unique environment in which they deliver medical care. Accommodations: Room Rate:$155.00 (Single or double occupancy, plus taxes) Sheraton Charlotte Hotel 555 South McDowell Street Charlotte, North Carolina A personalized Web site for CCTMC Attendees has been created. Guests can access the site to learn more about the event and to book, modify, or cancel a reservation from September 10, 2015 to April 14, 2016. https://www.starwoodmeeting.com/ Book/AirMedicalPhysicians2016 Individuals may also make reservations at the Sheraton Charlotte Hotel by calling 1-704-372-4100, or Sheraton Reservations at 1-800-325-3535. Reservations must be made by Monday, March 7, 2016 in order to receive the conference rate. • Describe non-invasive ventilation, REBOA, what the literature says about prehospital blood transfusion, and ketamine induced RSI. • Apply discussion and case presentation to controversial therapies for the treatment of status asthmaticus, effective prehospital hemorrhage control, toxicology interventions, and administering drugs with no IV. • Discuss task saturation and situational awareness, evolving concepts in optimizing resuscitation performance, challenges and resources for new CCT members, blood products in HEMS, and is a pressor a pressor? • Summarize a review of critical care literature, prehospital antibiotics for sepsis, specialty gases in specialty transport, therapeutic misadventures in the mechanically ventilated, and emergent analgesia. • Assess the benefits of hypertonic saline versus mannitol in the transport environment, oxygen as a lethal agent, considerations in compartment syndrome, and is an elevated lactate the next vital sign? • Describe the extraglottic device, ultrasound in critical care transport, using simulation to troubleshoot, and the reality of reimplantation – care and disposition of traumatic digit amputations. • And, get your “CCTM in 5”! Critical Care Procedural Anatomy Program Description: This portion of the Critical Care Transport Medicine Conference is for transport crew members who wish to update and practice critical care techniques that will enhance their ability to provide the best possible care to patients who are most in need. The program offers state-of-the-art updates on clinical procedures. The didactic sessions include topics on emergent airway management, surgical airway management, chest tube insertion and management and pericardiocentesis, ventilation assessment and ventilator management, ventilator assist devices, intraosseous vascular access, and tourniquets and control of bleeding. A Procedure Lab at Carolinas Healthcare will be provided for participants to practice the techniques they have discussed during the lecture session. EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES: At the completion of the Critical Care Procedural Anatomy Program participants should know or be able to: • Demonstrate understanding and handson skills practice for critical care procedures to include central line insertion, chest tube insertion, intraosseous access, ventilator management and surgical airway (cricothyroidotomy). • List the indications, contraindications, success rates and complications from the use of these devices and techniques used in the emergency treatment of the critically ill and/or injured patient. CCTMC Ultrasound Workshop Description: This 4-hour ultrasound course focuses primarily on the use of point-of-care ultrasound in the critically ill patient. Using a step-by-step approach, learners will be taught a shock protocol that will allow them to quickly diagnose a wide variety of pathologic conditions. The lecture portion discusses essential physics and knobology and the use of ultrasound to evaluate the critically ill patient at the bedside, and is followed by a hands-on practice session. EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES: At the completion of the CCTMC Ultrasound Workshop participants should know or be able to: • Demonstrate proper machine settings/image acquisition. • Describe sonographic findings of the hemopericardium, hemoperitoneum, hemothoraces, pneumothoraces, and right heart strain, pericardial tamponade and acute valvular insufficiency. • Describe sonographic findings of catastrophic intra-abdominal conditions (pneumoperitoneum, pneumatosis, pneumobilia, emphysematous infection). • Demonstrate an eFAST examination. • Describe sonographic findings of abdominal aortic aneurysms, as well as proximal lower extremity DVT. • Demonstrate catastrophic abdominal scanning protocol, and 2-point lower extremity compression examination. Scientific Forum The 15th Annual Scientific Forum is sponsored by AMPA, ASTNA and IAFCCP. Posters will be presented and reviewed on April 11th and an Outstanding Research Award will be given prior to the opening General Session on April 12th. Our goal is to nurture and provide an appropriate forum for research in air and ground medical transport.
