10:15am-12:45pm Morning Breakout Sessions I & II
Breakout Session I: #peaceofmind: Mental Health and Mindfulness in the Digital Age
Abel Tomatis, PhD
Technology surrounds us 24/7 and is an integral part of our daily lives. While the benefits of having the world
literally at your fingertips are numerous, the flipside has been ever-increasing stress and associated problems, such
as depression and anxiety, resulting from constantly being “connected” to everyone and everything. This workshop
will explore the impact of technology on mental health, and examine how to utilize mindfulness principles to find a
balance between our digital lives and our emotional well-being.
Breakout Session II: Using Play to Treat Childhood & Adolescent Depression
Misty Solt, PhD
This workshop will focus on helping clinicians both recognize depression in the play therapy room and understand
the importance of using play therapy as a treatment modality for young children. Participants will learn certain
questions to ask caregivers in regard to assessing depression in young children, as well as play therapy skills to use in
the playroom with depressed children.
Pain is a complex biological, psychological and social phenomenon. Dr. Robinson will clarify these complexities,
illustrating the affective nature of pain, as well as the cognitive and contextual nature of pain.
Breakout Session I: Ethical Challenges in Treating Multiple Clients: Part One
Michael Gottlieb, PhD
Victoria Tortorelli, MEd, LPC
While older adults are at higher risk for developing depression, it is not a normal part of aging. However, depression
in this population often goes undiagnosed. Learn how to accurately assess your aging clients for depression so you
are able to best treat them.
2:45pm-4:15pm
Afternoon Breakout Sessions I & II
Breakout Session I: Ethical Challenges in Treating Multiple Clients: Part Two
Michael Gottlieb, PhD
Participants who attend the Mid-Day Breakout Session Ethical Challenges in Treating Multiple Clients: Part One are
strongly encouraged to attend this session, a continuation.
Breakout Session II: Experiential Therapy in the Treatment of Depression
Andrea Davis, ATR-BC, LPC
Experiential therapies, like art therapy, provide clients an opportunity to express emotions without the use of words.
Art forms such as painting, sculpting, and music promote the expression of emotions while building connections to
self and others.

Ethical decision making is traditionally considered an analytical, intellectual, and quasi-legal process that, if followed
properly, should lead one to a correct solution in most situations. While this is often the case, some dilemmas are far
more complex. In this workshop Dr. Gottlieb will examine seven ethical dilemmas that are unique to working with
couples, families, and groups.
