THE ROYAL ACADEMY OF DANCE (RAD) PROGRAMME
The RAD ballet programme introduces students not only to skills in classical dance and foundations of
classical greek movement (referred to as ‘free movement’), but also character work. The RAD’s
character work is national folk dance adapted for the classical stage, as seen in popular ballets such as
Sleeping Beauty and The Nutcracker.
To ensure student safety whilst students study the character work, character shoes with a hard heel
are required.
The sooner students have their shoes, the sooner we may be able to commence learning
the character work.
Additionally, character skirts are also required. There are a number of character skirts available for
rent from the studio for a nominal fee of $10.00/season. Funds will help maintain these skirts. Please
remit payment to the Parents Group.
BALLET CLASSES
Please refer to the Student and Parent Handbook and note ‘Dress Code Requirements’,
where it states that students should wear hair tightly secured and away from the
face; a neat bun is preferred. Short hair should be neatly off the face and neck with
a hair band and elastic. Students requiring help may come and see me immediately
before their class begins
We appreciate those students that choose to wear proper warm-up woolies, tops, or
tight fitting t-shirts, that allow us to see body lines so that we may assist with
improving student work. Sweatshirts, hoodies, jackets, and baggy tops, are not
accepted as warm-up attire in ballet class. Clothing with inappropriate subject
material will not be accepted into any class.
ATTENDANCE
Please refer to the Student and Parent Handbook and note ‘Attendance’ and understand
the commitment required when signing up for dance class.

Why are Dance Examinations Important!
ADAPT examinations and the dance examination process encourages each student to work harder so he or
she may achieve a personal best. And through ADAPT Syllabus training, dance exams help to maintain
dance potential throughout all the dance training years.
- examinations allow students the opportunities to enjoy quality, technical dance training, supporting good
competitive values along with enhancing stronger jazz, tap and ballet performance abilities.
- examinations are a "goal setter". They are a memorable experience and present an opportunity for dance
students to be critiqued and evaluated by professional ADAPT Syllabus dance master examiners yearly.
- examinations offer dance certification and successful candidates receive graded ADAPT Syllabus dance
certificates. Pre Intermediate, Intermediate and Advanced ADAPT Exams also can be added to High school
transcript for Credit . High dance exam achievers also receive a special "Medal Of Merit Award" for excellence in dance.
ADAPT examinations and training help students build stronger character, integrity and lasting moral values
for their futures.
